More About Rottweiler Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sanford

      rescue
      Breed: Rottweiler
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Mills, WY
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). Sanford was adopted about 9 months ago and is now back in rescue because his mom lost her job and had to move. She had to rehome all three of her dogs, so Sanford came back to rescue. She was very sad to have to return him as he took her heart. We would like Sanford to have a home in his final years rather than live in a kennel We believe Sanford to be around 12 years old. He is a big beautiful boy, who just wants to do his thing on his own time. Can you blame him, he deserves that at his age. We don't know why he was surrendered, but as with all seniors, they deserve a home especially at senior age. He was standoffish at first, now he wants to pet and rubbed on him. He does like to be brushed with a soft brush So far he enjoys hanging out, is quiet, good with other dogs and loves to get out and explore the grassy turnout pen, but then goes back into the kennel on his own. I would not recommend him for a home with children, I just think that would be too much energy and excitement for this boy. He would like a quiet home that matches his energy and just be able to be himself and have someone wait on him and play with him some. He gets a good spring in his step when he sees you and he is ready for his meals and is goofy for attention after he eats. He is in good health. Will get pics of this big boy soon

      Breed: Rottweiler-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Mills, WY
Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed (medium coat). Hi, I am Neon and I love life. I am an active girl. I started out in CA as a stray. Somehow, I gravitated to an animal shelter and when they found me outside they wanted to catch me. I was afraid, but once they picked up a ball, I was theirs. I then got transferred to a shelter in ID where they adopted me out, but I was immediately taken to Petco and I was afraid and shut down, so the shelter had to come get me. The shelter, then decided I would do best in rescue. While waiting for transport, I did live in a house with another dog and did well, but I didn't want the other dog to play with my toys. Neon now loves to be loved on and it is better than balls. She lies down, rolls over for her loving, squints her eyes and smiles, if you go to stop, she puts her front feet around your hand. She looks like a little meerkat. I am also rubbing her hind end and she is starting to cha-cha. She is a very sweet girl. Neon is a very happy girl and LOVES to play with balls. She always presents herself with a toy and wants you to play with her. She is treat motivated, but does NOT like other dogs to be thinking about taking her toys, but she no longer barks at them so is learning they are not all threats.

      Ranger

      rescue
      Breed: Rottweiler
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Mills, WY
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). Update: Ranger is just an "adorable boy". He was a favorite at the vets, and had all the staff all over him. He is just quiet and calm and a go with the flow kinda boy. Ranger has for the most part stopped his growling at the other dogs. He is next to Rosy and they get along. He has stopped staring at the other males and growling at them. If he does, he is easily corrected and moves on. He walks like a dream on a leash, stays with you off leash. When I turn the other dogs out in the turnout pen right next to him, he just sits and watches. He is learning that other dogs are not a threat to him. Ranger had been roaming the streets apparently for years before somone finally called the shelter to come get him. No one claimed this sweet boy whom they think is 4-5 years old, so they reached out to rescue. Ranger loves all people. When they picked him up in a migrant camp, the kids were climbing all over him. He has been neutered and we are introducing him to other dogs. At the present he is not fond of male dogs and will put him next to the females to see how he does. I am sure this is something he learned while wandering the streets. He is a very sweet boy and just craves affection. At the present, I would recommend a home without other dogs, a female might work, we will see how he progresses.

      Violet

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Rottweiler
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Mills, WY
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Violet came into rescue 2 weeks ago and she is doing very well. Initially, everything was scary to her, she is gaining confidence and bonds quickly. She is so sweet and wants to be included in everything. She will need a nice quiet home, with someone who is an experienced owner who will help her to overcome her fears. This is a history on Violet, we will evaluate her when she come into rescue. Violet's owner had gotten her as a puppy, and was head over heels in love with her since day one. Violet lived with other dogs, and especially loved the children she shared a home with. Violet is very well trained to potty outside, and also knows several basic commands including sit, lay down, listens well to her name, does well with leave it, and is learning "touch". Violet is great on leash as well! Violet's owner got orders to serve a two year-long deployment, and entrusted friends with her care. When her owner was gone, Violet felt a deep sense of stress and anxiety, unfortunately. This anxiety often manifested in resource guarding behavior towards the other female dog in the home. Violet was very protective of her food dish and toys, and would bite and snap at the other female dog if she approached Violet's things. Additionally, when Violet's owner returned home from his deployment, Violet displayed severely submissive and fearful behavior towards him. She never attempted to bite, as far as we know. Here at the shelter, Violet is slowly coming out of her shell and showing her goofy and bright personality. She loves to go for walks in our big field, and even played with another dog (or at least thought about playing while she wandered the yard with him!) recently. Violet is VERY food driven, and especially loves her Kong toy, hot dogs, and working hard to get treats and please the people she trusts! Even with all of the progress Violet seems to be making, the shelter environment is extremely stressful for her.

      Daisy

      Breed: Rottweiler
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Mills, WY
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). She’s in the purple collar. Here’s what the owner said about her: This is Daisy, she is 2 1/2 years old. I have had her since she was a baby, and she is a really good dog despite some problems. She is very hyper and energetic. She LOVES to play ball with her yellow tennis ball. She loves to run around and get treats. She does pretty good inside the house other than getting into the garbage from time to time. She is not a barker, she will only bark when she is trying to let you know something is going on. She is also not fixed. 2 of her main issues is she does not like smaller dogs. I’m not sure where this came from but she has tried to attack several small dogs including our pit bull when we first got her as a puppy. She is usually fine with the bigger ones, but the little ones for some reason she does not do well with. The second thing is she absolutely does not like kids. We had one close call with her and my friends toddler and one other episode just recently. We don’t know why she is this way, and it may be something that can be worked out. But neither one of us know how to fix this issue and with a baby of our own due any day now, we have just decided that it is not a risk we are willing to take with out newborn. It is a very serious thing and our biggest hope is that we can give her to someone that will take this as seriously as we do so there are no babies or kids that end up hurt by negligent people. She has been a part of our family for a long time and we just hope she can find a home that is suited well for her and most of all, love her. We are deeply saddened to see her go.

      Breed: Rottweiler
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Mills, WY
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). Izzie needs to find a new home as she and her bulldog sibling are no longer getting along. She gets along great with the family pug. The bulldog is high maintenance and has extreme seperation anxiety and demands all the attention in the household. Rottweilers love to be with their people as well, so the situation is getting worse with fights breaking out over attention. She had a hip replacement at 8 months old and tore here other ACL, but the vet advised not to do surgery and Izzie does well with no problems, runs and plays like normal and no limp. It appears Izzie would do best in a home where she no longer has to share her peoples attention. She is a very sweet girl and has never shown any aggression towards people. She is purebred from a breeder in CO and was purchased at 8 weeks old for $1500 If you would be interested in adopting this beautiful girl, please contact Sue at (307)267-7123
