Roxy gets along with even the most temperamental of dogs and minds her own business. She loves to be groomed and go for rides in the car. She is house trained and walks nicely on lead. She is too interested in cats for our comfort. Kids over 6. Please visit our web site at http://www.4theloveofdog.org for all adoption information.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

rescue
Breed: Rottweiler
Sex: Male Male
Age: Adult
Location: Hillsboro, NH
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). My Adoption Fee is $200 in November. Apply Now! Nero is a dignified 5 year old rottie boy with a secret puppy side he occasionally shares. He walks nicely on leash, but he really enjoys walking on a long lunge line where he can explore and check out the scents. He’s not a big boy, but he is solid and well built. He may need savvy introductions with new dogs, but he has lived comfortably with a male and female dog in the foster home. He can be redirected and is responsive and wants to bond. He has basic manners and doesn’t climb on the furniture, though he probably would like to be invited. Nero enjoys training sessions. He is protective and will need to know his person or people are confident, however he is a sensitive dog too. He is crate trained and seems to be house broken, but he will need some continued assistance in remembering the rules, including not to counter surf or sneak goodies from the recycling bin. Home living is still new. He loves being near his people and laying near somebody’s feet and he occasionally will roll over for a belly rub or two, if nobody is looking. Nero would love to be somebody’s forever friend. He is waiting for you! Originally from Puerto Rico, Nero is enjoying his first winter. He will do best with kids over 12. No cats or small dogs, please. Please visit our web site at http://www.4theloveofdog.org for all adoption information.

Posted Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). My Adoption Fee is $200 in November. Apply Now! Meet Me on Nov 12 in Swanzey NH Hazel is an approximately 3 year old rottie who came in as a stray at a shelter in Maryland. Hazel is the dog that we currently use as out “tester dog” with other dogs, meaning that we expose her to other dogs that we would like to see how social that dog is. Hazel is also quick to befriend people. She really is a sweetie and very playful. Hazel has had chronic ear infections and even though they've been treated, she can be sensitive about her head. Because of this, an adult home is preferred. Other dogs are encouraged. Posted Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). Hi I'm Maxi! I'm a bright and happy girl! I like to go for walks and give lots of Rottie leans and kisses! Even though I am 8 years old I have plenty of spark! I was very scared after I lost my family and found myself in the shelter but I am very well-behaved with my new foster mom. I will need a new owner who will be patient and let me adjust to my new home. It won't take me long at all to bond with you. I previously lived in a home with kids and another Rottweiler and I would love to find my place in the world again. I have a lot of gas left in my tank and am in very good health! Age is just a number right?!!! Allentown PA foster home - local applicants are encouraged to apply. Please visit our web site at http://www.4theloveofdog.org for all adoption information. Breed: Rottweiler-Unknown Mix
Sex: Female Female
Location: Hillsboro, NH
Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed (medium coat). Layla is a super sweet LOYAL dog that's absolutely loves her parents! She's a cuddler, she's a kisser, and she's very protective. When Layla first came to us, she was a little shy and wasnt very confident. That lasted about a week and after that she had made herself right at home. Layla has never been aggressive to her parents and does well at boarding as well. She has been aggressive with others as she feels the need to take on a protective role. She doesn't do well with other dogs. Her former owner says that she was good with cats. She's a smaller size dog who is in great shape. She seems like she has eaten by grazing in the past, but also is doing well being fed twice a day. Layla is a sweet Family protector! Layla loves to play fetch and tug,,, and does play a lot! She is a toy shredder tho! Lol Sweet, clean, loving and very cute! That's our Layla!!! Her ideal home would be where she is an only dog and parent/s that understand Dogs and how to properly handle a dog. Prada

verified

rescue
Breed: Rottweiler
Sex: Female Female
Age: Adult
Location: Hillsboro, NH
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Prada is a very sweet & cute 7 yr old 80# Rotty girl. Prada tries to please her human, and came to her foster impressively knowing, several commands. Someone clearly put some significant training time into Prada as she knows sit, paw and down(lay down),the latter which can be difficult to teach a dominant Rotty to comply with. She walks pretty well on leash, tho can be stubborn when she doesn't want to go where you want. Prada does very well in her crate at night although would do best in a home where she isn't crated for extended periods. As a youngster, she was crated all the time during her puppy developmental years, resulting in a slight termor in her back legs. This does not affect her movement or functionality. She easily leaps onto the back seat of a high SUV, regardless of this. Prada is exuberant and just thrilled to run around freely in a nice, grassy (fenced in) yard or SO happy to ride in a car with her muzzle sniffing out a crack in the window a bit on a nice day. She is a total doggy clown and it's comical to watch her joyfully run around a yard with any old improvised toy or ride in a car with her muzzle sniffing everything excitedly as she happily drives around with you! Prada's former life didn't include much introduction to new people, therefore she needs guidance on how to behave with them. She has a very sweet nature, and truly wants to please, so I expect with mindfulness of this deficit and with proper introduction & reinforcement, this should not be an issue. Prada can be very protective of her human(s). She would do best in a home with minimal "traffic" and older/no kids. She should not live with cats. Prada is in a foster in Maine with another dog, chickens and larger livestock that she is playful with. Prada is now free from her past over-crated life, and this cute Rotty girl just wants to have FUN(!), with whoever or whatever will play with her! $250 adoption fee. rescue
Breed: Mutt
Sex: Female Female
Age: Adult
Location: Hillsboro, NH
Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Meet Me on May 21 at our Open House in Swanzey NH! Abby is the most cuddly, snuggly dog I have ever had. She literally makes happy noises when she gets the persuasion to join you on the couch or bed for a cuddle sesh. She even prefers to be headfirst under the covers. If she can't cuddle with someone she will find the softest/squishiest thing in the room to lie on. Cuddling and playing with her toys are close runners up to her favorite thing - food. She jumps out of bed in the morning, her whole body wagging and wiggling with excitement, and dances all the way to her bowl. After breakfast, she quickly slips back to her bed where you will always find her curled up like a donut. She will need an experienced handler to help her work out a few quirks. She is very motivated to please but also easily excited and of course has a touch of stubborn. Her chase instinct is very strong so she can only be walked by someone who can manage that. She is medium-high energy. Abby likes other dogs but probably has not been well socialized. She can get overly excited/not read cues well. However, she can also do very well with close supervision. (We dog sat a submissive female lab/pit mix and they even shared beds). Hopefully, this is something Abby can master with time. She knows heal, sit, lie down, drop it, leave it, off, come, wait, move, ok, go to bed...and is crate trained. She is indifferent to kids- anyone who will play with her gets her approval. Because she is a lover and not a fighter, she is nervous around arguing/ horseplay and may let you know with some assertive barking. She will also let you know if anyone is coming in the house without your permission: however she is happy to welcome guests when you greet them at the door. No food/toy aggression with people. Abby was found in NYC as a stray and has had at least one litter of pups. She was spayed in the fall and is now happy to focus on being a carefree pup herself. In a lot of ways, it feels like this is Abby's puppyhood. If you want a girl who loves hard and plays hard, this may be your pup. Abby's adoption fee is waived if adopted on May 21 Please visit our web site at http://www.4theloveofdog.org for all adoption information.

Coco likes to go for walks and is very playful, loves her toys and bath time! Coco would do better as the only pet in her forever home, as she is extremely dog selective and NO CATS or SMALL ANIMALS for this girl! Kids over 10. Coco loves to cuddle, and is highly food motivated, she loves to sit for cookies! She does get excited to see you and jumps, but working on that behavior ! Coco is a very special girl... with LOTS OF LOVE TO SHARE! Adoption fee waived for the right family. Please visit our web site at http://www.4theloveofdog.org for all adoption information.
