Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed. Hey, hey. I'm Cash. I'm here because, well, I'm not sure. My family dropped me off and never came back for me. It's really too bad because I'm a great pup. I'm smart, I'm energetic, I'm handsome, I'm friendly...do I need to go on? Okay, just a little bit more. I'm only 9 months old, I'm around 30lbs, I'm a Rottweiler mix and...yeah, that sums it up. I think I'll let my pictures do all the talking because I'm just adorable and there are other dogs waiting in line for the keys. Over and out. Call me! 918-825-7172

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). My name is Duke. I am not happy about living in this shelter. My dad person left me and is waiting for me on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge; that’s what people tell me. I went on to live with other people who were a part of our family. They work, a lot. They left me on my own in yard all day while they were gone. I missed my dad so much that I started getting out of the yard more often to fi nd him. People would find me and put me back in my yard, but I never stayed for long. I was on a mission and no one was ever home to stop me. The last time I was caught wandering around the neighborhood, I was taken straight to this shelter where I still am to this day. I guess no one had time for me, so here I sit. I am a sweet guy who is missing my home and my person. I guess I need to find a new family, one who does have time for me and will help me cope with my loss. I am 10 years old, I don’t potty in the house, I feel tired most of the time but I still love to play every now and then, I don’t do cats AT ALL, I’m handsome and I am sweet; too sweet to be here. I can’t live in this shelter any longer. Please don’t let me stay here another night.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Has anyone ever been kicked off a field trip? Well, I have recently. My previous family, who hasn’t come looking for me, left me in the yard one fine morning. I got bored so I escaped the yard to find my own fun. I had every intention of going back, but my nose got the best of me and I wound up here. Oh, still wondering about that field trip? Yeah, my nose landed me in the middle of a group of kid s, who were going on a field trip. That sounded like loads of fun so I wanted to join them in the big yellow, rolling box. Apparently, dogs aren’t allowed on those things, kids only. Before I knew it, I was in someone’s truck that landed me here, at the shelter. Like I said, my family hasn’t come for me so I guess I’ll move on. The name’s Boomer. I am said to be a Boxer mix, I’m only a year and a half old, I have basic manners like sit and so on, I’m housetrained, I love to go places (hence my attempt to go on a field trip) and I love everybody. Is that enough for you to spring me from this place? If so, please give me a call! 918-825-7172

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). I’m the baby in the shelter, Mae Mae. I am only 3-4 months old, I’m weigh a whopping 20lbs, I’m adorable, I have spots, I’m a Terrier mix and I need a new family because my old one hasn’t bothered to come looking for me. You need more than that, don’t you? Alright. I was picked up and brought here two weeks ago. I’ve been trying to look as adorable as I can when people come to visit, hoping they will pick me. Well, it hasn’t happened yet, but hopefully when you read this, someone will. What do you think? Can you come get me now? Don’t let me grow up here. 918-825-7172
