Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed. Hey, hey. I'm Cash. I'm here because, well, I'm not sure. My family dropped me off and never came back for me. It's really too bad because I'm a great pup. I'm smart, I'm energetic, I'm handsome, I'm friendly...do I need to go on? Okay, just a little bit more. I'm only 9 months old, I'm around 30lbs, I'm a Rottweiler mix and...yeah, that sums it up. I think I'll let my pictures do all the talking because I'm just adorable and there are other dogs waiting in line for the keys. Over and out. Call me! 918-825-7172

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). Tiny here...with a BIG personality! I was surrendered to the Shelter with my brother after my human died. I guess the family thought we were too much trouble but really, we're not! My younger brother was adopted last week and that left me by myself. I admit, I had a bit of an attitude when I first arrived. The shelter is a WAY scary place for little guys. I was used to a quiet home and it wa s anything but. When my brother left, I was very lonely and decided I'd better show everyone just how sweet I could be. After LMJ took my pictures, SWAT decided to take me to the Love Shack to be fostered. It's okay here but I really want to find my forever family. Here's the low-down: I am of course, a Chihuahua, already neutered. I weigh about 10 lbs. My ex-family said that I was 11 when they turned me in...maybe, but I have really white pretty teeth and I can be pretty feisty for eleven! I am house trained, get along with other dogs, don't mind the cat, even though it is bigger than me...ditto for the chickens. I love lounging on laps and think I'm definitely best friend material. If you would like to meet me, please give either the Shelter or SWAT a call. I will charm your socks off!

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). This million $$ smile belongs to me, Chris. I was taking a walk in the rain the other day and AC Becki offered me a ride...I thought we were going to Sonic but turns out she had other ideas. I was pretty sure my family would come bail me out but here I sit. A little about me for my new family: I'm about 2 years old, young enough to learn and old enough to know better. I have that pretty Pittie smile, get along with everything and every one...well, wait, I'm not sure about cats. I'll see if they let me eat one, er, um, I mean MEET one. I don't really know any personally. I'll get back to you on that one. I weight about 45 lbs. I have a black spot on my tail that follows me everywhere I go and I type 52 WPM. Think you'd like to meet me? Give the Rockin' G a call...and please hurry!

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Hey, family! Did you forget you had a puppy in the house? Guess so because they haven't called or stopped by to look for me. Okay new family, if you're reading this, I need you to stop what you're doing and hurry down here to come get me. I do NOT want to grow up behind bars. I want to grow up with tiny humans, lick their food dishes clean when they offer them to me, play with them day and night, sleep in their bed, slay dragons and maybe swim with them. I don't want to sit on this concrete anymore. Can you help a pup out? Oh, I'm Winnie by the way. They're calling me a Border Collie mix, but I'm thinking there's Lab in there somewhere. I'm only 5 months old and ready to abandon this ship, blow this Popsicle stand, blow this joint...you get it. Just call me! 918-825-7172

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). My name is Annie. My sister and I were picked up on the side of the road where our first family left us. We are about 3-4 months old. The first family didn't have kids so we didn't get much attention after our mama told us time with her was up. I'm a little bit afraid of people but I want to have my own human to love. I am trying real hard to learn to trust people and how to play with them. I am by myself in a cage now but when my sister gets to come out in the play yard with me, I'm very playful...even with my shelter human. If you don't mind giving a little extra TLC, I will work very hard to be your best dog ever.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). I'm Sarah the Adorable. Alright, I added the adorable part but don't you agree? I mean, look at this face. I am an active, playful Lab mix who had it pretty rough when I was younger. When I was just a pup, I was left to fend for myself. One day I stumbled across a pack of dogs and Dad Person, who adopted me as their own. I thought I died and went to dog heaven, this was the best I had ever had. Well, I almost did die, but my Dad didn't give up on me. I'm a parvo survivor all thanks to my Dad Person. A year later, I'm a happy, healthy one year old who, unfortunately, has to find another family. I need an active family who will throw a ball for me, let me sleep at the foot of your bed, teach me manners, take me on walks or runs and who will keep me forever and ever as a member of a family. I'm already spayed and up to date on shots, I've had that Bravecto stuff, I love fetching sticks and other toys, I love playing with the other dogs and I am ready to find my family...starting right now. If you think I'm the right pup for your family, please message SWAT
