Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed. Hey, hey. I'm Cash. I'm here because, well, I'm not sure. My family dropped me off and never came back for me. It's really too bad because I'm a great pup. I'm smart, I'm energetic, I'm handsome, I'm friendly...do I need to go on? Okay, just a little bit more. I'm only 9 months old, I'm around 30lbs, I'm a Rottweiler mix and...yeah, that sums it up. I think I'll let my pictures do all the talking because I'm just adorable and there are other dogs waiting in line for the keys. Over and out. Call me! 918-825-7172

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). My friends call me Diesel...Mom's name was Ethel (if you're old enough to think that's funny). I have a history with the shelter. One of those guys that can't seem to catch a break. My brother and I lived with people that didn't take good care of us when we were young. We ended up at the shelter, my brother died and I was pretty sick. They nursed me back to health and I got adopted...problem was, I had to hide out from the landlord who didn't like "Pits." He never even bothered to get to know me. I am just now about 18 months old, 55 pound of pure sweet. I'm pretty well mannered considering, get along with other dogs and all humans. I am neutered, up to date on shots and ready to get on with forever. If you think your home could be my last home, please call the Rockin' G and ask for me.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi, my name's Blackie..a bit of a cliche' you say? Well, my whole life is a bit of a cliche'. I was taken home as a puppy...a cute little rolly, polly black dog, playful, friendly, handsome. I am also a Pit/Lab mix, more cliche'; more chance that things were not going to work out well for me. I was never allowed in the house as a puppy, but they fed me. There was even a kid that I grew very fo nd of that would come out and play with me. Then, the summer I turned one, the boy went away and the other people in the house quit coming out...they quit giving me water and they quit feeding me. I hung out for awhile but had to go find some food. I ran into a pack of Coyotes that weren't very nice to me but the worse that happened on my journey for food is that I got this nasty, itchy stuff called manage. I came back to the place that I knew as home and they shooed me away. A kind neighbor took pitty on me and would throw left-overs to me. She also saw the shape I was in and brought some medicine from the vet to kill the mange. That's when she called SWAT and brought me to the Love Shack. I stayed there for a few days, got lots more medicine and then moved to the BIG house. No kidding man, I have foster brothers and sisters that love me (the fur kind that includes a cat! Who knew one of my good friends would be a CAT!), I also have a foster mom and dad that feed me, bathe me, brush me and STILL think I'm handsome. I get to sleep inside at night, and I go for walks and I'm learning manners. I went to the vet and she snipped, snipped, and gave me a clean bill of health. I am ready to move on to forever...and this time, the cliche' will be THE BEST DOG EVER!"

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. This million dollar smile belongs to yours truly, Sissy! I was surrendered by my family for some reason. Do you know what it is? I sure don't. I was super excited when they told me to get in the car. Yay, car ride! That excitement faded when they left me here. That wasn't what I had on my agenda for that day. I was planning on eating my breakfast, playing outside with my people, napping in my soft bed, maybe search for a mid morning snack, nap again, dig through my toy box, redecorate the living room with my toys, take another nap...all of that was interrupted by a car ride that landed me here. Sheesh, what did I ever do? Anyway, I'm writing this because I'm in search of a new family. I'm a good girl, just a year old, I may be 55lbs now, I'm a lover of all things, I have shepherd and Aussie in me and I can flash the best smile when asked. How's that for a bio? Call me if you want to meet me! 918-825-7172

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). I think my pouty lip speaks for me, but I was told to sit here and type out an entire bio so here we go. I’m Jake. I was surrendered by my family a couple weeks ago. They taught me manners, took me to the vet for the big snip and then decided their home wasn’t the right fit for a big guy like me. So, they brought me here. I only spent a week here before I was loaded into someone else’s car. They took me to their house and I made myself right at home. The elderly couple who br ought me home realized I needed more space and a more active family so here I am again. I’m only a year old and I’m a lab. I think I’m going to be an active puppy for a long time to come. Did I mention my size? I’m not too big, just 60lbs. So, I’m great with everyone and everything, I’m housebroken, I have manners, I’m awesome, go me...anything else? Like I said before, my pouty lip can tell you how unhappy I am being here, so do me a favor and get me outta here. I’m ready! 918-825-7172

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Catching a ball in mid-flight isn't something I ever mastered as a puppy. Can you tell? The name's Knuckles. That sounds tough, right? I'd like to think of myself as a tough guy, but deep down I'm a gentle soul who thoroughly enjoyed ending the squeaky ball's life. Yep, I did that, sorry LMJ. That famous blue ball is no more than a flat piece of rubber. You're welcome. Anyway, I do enjoy playing w ith toys, I enjoy watching the humans play fetch (they throw it, look at me and go fetch it), I have the best smile in the world, I have a couple manners but could stand to learn a few more, I think I've had 4 or 5 birthdays and I'm an all around awesome dog. If you have some room for me and are seeking a permanent foot warmer, I'm your guy! 918-825-7172
