ROXANNE Breed: Shiba Inu Mix Estimated DOB: 1/1/13 Heartworm Status: Negative Gender: Female, spayed Shots: up to date Microchipped: Yes Notes: is very afraid of other animals, cats and dogs, and needs to be the only animal in home. Because of this, she also needs a home with no small children. Roxanne is a very lovable girl who loves people. She loves to give hugs and kisses, cuddle with you on the couch, and get all the attention you can give. She absolutely adores children and would spend all of her time laying on her back so they can use her belly as a pillow if you'd let her! She also has the prettiest smile you've ever seen on a four-legged fluffy pup. Sadly she is not very good with other dogs (or any other animals) as she is very afraid of them, so she will need to be the only pet in the household and will not be the type of dog who can go to the dog park. Roxanne would do best in a household that can spend lots of time with her and have patience with her while she gains confidence learns to feel comfortable in her new surroundings. She behaves as if she was not allowed inside her previous home so she needs someone to make her realize being a part of a family inside a home is a good and safe thing. This will take a little time and effort but if you’ve got lots of love and want some soft thick fur to bury your fingers in, Roxanne would love for you to make her your new baby! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

DOB: 8/1/16 Male, Neutered Puggle Up to date on vaccinations Heartworm Negative Microchipped Hey, what are you looking at? It MUST be my handsome hair! OR my perfect paws! My stunning smile, you say? Whatever it was that caught your attention, there are just as many unique things about me that you don’t know about yet. I hope you’ll keep reading! I may only be a year old pup, but I am already well on my way to mastering potty training. I like to play “tough guy” with my toys, but I will melt in your arms and kiss you a lot. I love to run around, especially with my foster sister, but I also love to cuddle. I can be a little shy and timid at first, but I do “talk to strangers”, especially those who knock at my door. I know some tricks, but my foster parents don’t find my tendencies to chew on things very entertaining. If you have a pup of your own, I would love to be a member of their pack. I’m especially talented at “follow the leader”. Don’t you love my quirky personality? If your family can offer me entertainment and love, I can share these stunning smiles with you everyday, fur-ever and ever. She does get along with other similarly sized dogs though. Hi, I'm Oakleigh, and the people here at CAAWS like to say I'm either the laziest high energy dog or the most high energy lazy dog there is! I always want to play if you do, especially tug of war, but I also always want to be on my bed. I can easily sleep 20 hours of a day away! I know the basics of sit, stay, come, down, roll over, and good leash walking and I'm pretty easy to train. I'm super smart!!! I'm 100% housebroken to my foster home but everybody wants me to tell you that there's always a period of adjustment to new homes for most dogs so I may have some adjusting to do to any new environments and mistakes will happen! I love other dogs but I do have a special love for chasing things that are smaller than me. Some people call it a prey drive instinct but I like to call it a 'oh, look, shiny, must get!' instinct. I would love my forever home to be a strong leader to help me feel confident, safe, and loved. She will not be attending adoptions on Saturdays at Quinn Dr. To inquire about adopting or for questions about Betty Rue contact her caretaker: amandagrimleylaw@gmail.com. Betty Rue was found as a stray with no where to go. She is a very sweet girl to all people she meets with a wagging tail and is eager to please. Better Rue does not do well with other dogs and would do best as an only pet. She is very smart and learns quickly. A very quiet and patient dog, she would make an excellent running partner and snuggle buddy. She is housebroken and crate trained! Please email amandagrimleylaw@gmail.com to learn if Betty is right for your home.
