January of 2009, weighing 12 pounds. Daisie is primarily cream colored, and will need regular grooming to keep her looking spiffy. This little girl is blind in both eyes but has no problems quickly learning her way around. She's completely potty trained. Daisie enjoys snuggling on the couch with her foster mom and playing with her toys. She is fantastic in the company of others, enjoys sunbathing and is a real easy going girl. Upon a recent wellness check Daisie is now diagnosed with early kidney disease, she is currently doing well on the special diet. She would do best in a family with a quieter, more sedate environment, no young children and would be happy to accompany her human on daily walks. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccines. Her adoption fee $100 which helps Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. ♥ All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog. We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information. All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog. Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. More About Shih Apso Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

He has beautiful light eyes and once he gets over the scary getting to know you part, he bonds very quickly. He does better with women then men, but anyone who will be gentle and kind to him will eventually earn his heart. Logan is housebroken, but prefers to do his business on walks versus in the yard. He enjoys going to the dog park and beaches. Logan gets along great with other dogs and really loves his senior foster sibling. It's not his favorite place, but Logan will go in the crate if you want him to. He rides great in the car and enjoys sitting in the back next to his big brother. Logan is very affectionate and bonded quickly to his foster mom and likes to sleep with her at night. We don't think Logan would do well with kids because he is hesitant with new people and needs to be approached slowly. Logan would love a quiet adult only household with another pet to keep him company. Logan is neutered, microchipped and current on his vaccines. Ryker is a 3yo and 25 lb Pomeranian mix who would be perfect for a quiet household of one or two patient adults who don't get a ton of visitors, have another dog, and have a regular schedule. He is house-trained, pee-pad trained, leash-trained, loves walks and car rides and has been getting straight As from his foster mom. Ryker (Piper to his friends) was living on the streets near a border truck stop where he survived on handouts and had to be very choosy about his friends. Ryker's whole world changed when he was rescued. Ryker was so fearful and scared at first, but has learned to trust people (and is partial to women) and loves being bribed with really good treats. He has learned how to play, and his favorite toy is his Kong which he has turned into quite a floor show. He gets along with other dogs, and does well with a dog-tolerant cat. He will bond very quickly and will appreciate all the love you can heap upon him. He is still fearful of unpredictable kids, so he would appreciate a kid-free household. Ryker is fine left at home if he has another dog to keep him company, and he needs a secure fenced yard & home. Ryker loves his walks, always on a Leash, and the dog park is his favorite destination. Want a dog that will give you his whole heart and soul, and wants to keep you and your dog company? Ryker would love to meet you and see if he is a match! Cute as a button, this 8 year old, male, Chihuahua mix weighs about 9 lbs. He is a good mannered and sweet-tempered guy who walks well on leash and appears to be crate trained. PeaWee came to us cranky with a stiff neck, and has been to a vet & specialist who suspected of him having something called Cervical Inter vertebral Disc Disease (IVDD=Narrowing of disc in the neck). PeaWee was placed on pain medications and this is managing his condition and restored his sunny disposition. PeaWee must be walked on a harness, as he experiences neck pain due to the IVDD. Olga's adoption fee is $100 which helps Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home. Thank you for visiting our dogs located at www.SecondChanceDogRescue.org

We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt // // Meet Pinta! Pinta is 40 lb, 3 year old very smart and active Cattle dog mix. Pinta is eager to please and MUST be the alpha girl of the house. She can initially have some issues settling into her pack (especially with dogs smaller than her). But she is very fast learner and will listen to a strong alpha leader. She loves water and going to the beach to play. She loves her toys and is happy to rest by your feet. She does best with larger dogs, as her play can get rough. She is ok around children, but jumps to greet people and would not do well with a small child. Pinta came to us with an injury and one eye was removed in November of 2015. Pinta is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations. Her adoption fee is $250 which helps Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. ♥ All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog.
