Posted Breed: Shih Tzu. Ideal Home- Fenced yard required. Quiet low traffic home works best for Teddy. A family familiar with feeding grain-free food is ideal due to Teddy's history of some food allergies. Meet Teddy, a 3 year old Shih Tzu mix. Teddy is so sweet that if strangers enter the home he will walk up to them and give them a kiss. He is sweet and affectionate and would thrive with someone who loves to cuddle him and give him kisses. He's really a big teddy bear who is just waiting to give his heart and soul to a special person. Teddy loves to run outside in a fenced yard and play with toys. Although he enjoys having other dogs around for company, he would do fine as an only dog. Teddy is used to going in the backyard for potty breaks. He's been known to have a few accidents on the outdoor deck but it's easy enough to clean up and wash off with some soap. Teddy goes on walks but is used to the backyard for most of his breaks out so we're hoping to find him a fenced yard to avoid accidents. Walking him on leash is not a problem but we offer the advice about the yard to ensure a smoother transition since this is what he is used to. He's on a grain free food that helps keep him healthy. Contact us to meet this Teddy Bear. We want to provide as much information about our foster dogs, but sometimes it’s hard to do in the simple dog biography listed above. CHR will list the Ideal Home section to help applicants better understand what the rescue and foster parents are looking for this particular rescue dog’s future home. Please, take a minute to read the Ideal Home section .

More About Shih Tzu Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Shih Tzu-Unknown Mix

      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu / Mixed (short coat). Ideal Home- Someone home part of the day or a dog walking service in place at the time of the adoption. No cats please . Snoopy enjoys the company of other dogs. CHR is asking that he go to a home with another friendly dog in the house. Hi there! My name is Snoopy - just like Charlie Brown’s best friend and I’m ready to be yours! I’m a two-year old Shih Tzu mix. I have nice long legs made for walking and prancing and playing with my dog friends. When I need a tummy rub or some lovin’, I channel the real Snoopy and walk around on my back legs. One of my FAVORITE things to do is play! I love playing with my dog friends so I hope my new home has another friendly dog that I can be buddies with. I’m house trained and love my fenced-in yard for potty-breaks. I’m waiting patiently for my forever home. Will you be my Charlie Brown?

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (long coat). Ideal home- We are requiring someone home all or part of the day to help Mookie with her house training. A home with wall-to-wall carpeting cannot be considered due to the fact that Mookie will eliminate any fabric floor surfaces. We are also requiring a house with a securely fenced yard to make it easy to let her out frequently for bathroom breaks. An experienced owner is also a must due to all the work involved in housetraining and helping socialize Mookie. Due to her small size, we are only considering all-adult homes. Miss Mookie is a DOLL BABY! ;She is a wee 7-pound bundle of energy and love. She loves to play, play, play all day and explore the big world around her. She’s never met a human or dog that she doesn’t like. She LOVES to be near her humans and will kiss them any chance she gets. She enjoys snuggles and belly rubs and basking in your love and attention. She also loves playing with other dogs and routinely gives her foster brothers and sisters a real workout playing “tag.” Mookie is still working on her housetraining skills and will have indoor accidents daily until fully trained. Please keep this in mind if you are routinely gone for hours and/or have wall-to-wall carpeting or rugs in your home. Mookie's going to need a bit of work in the beginning but we think she is worth the extra effort! We want to provide as much information about our foster dogs as we can, but sometimes it’s hard to do in a short biography. So that applicants can better understand the type of home a specific dog will do best in, we have included the Ideal Home section (see above). Please take a minute to read the Ideal Home section before applying for a dog.

Posted Breed: Poodle (Toy) (long coat). Ideal home- Sierra would love a quiet home s Sierra is a four-year-old, eight-pound toy poodle. Sierra loves all people and is happiest when she is lying by your feet while you work or cuddled up next to you on the couch while you relax. She gets along well with the dogs in her foster home and is expected to get along well with other calm, small dogs and cats. Due her background, she is cautious of fast movements, but her desire for human interaction helps her conquer her fears. One of Sierra's hips didn't form right, so she has some mobility limitations, particularly when she is going down stairs. However, her hips don't stop her from zooming around when she's happy. She is currently taking an anti-inflammatory(inexpensive) to help keep her moving. Overall, Sierra is an easy, loving dog with no mean bone in her body. She would love to go to a quiet home with people who love to cuddle and are able to help her up and down stairs We want to provide as much information about our foster dogs, but sometimes it’s hard to do in the simple dog biography listed above. Breed: Mutt

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. LOTS OF YORKIES!! CHR has several young Yorkies right now. All of the Yorkies are super sweet and friendly. No aggression at all. Aiden- 2 year old gorgeous male Yorkie Mookie- 10 month old female Yorkie Mikey- 1 year old male Yorkie We hope that one of these cuties will work for your family. All of them have similar needs. 1. All of them are young and have small bladders. They need outside breaks every 4 hours. 2. All of them have been crate tested and will bark non-stop if crated. We have seen them soil in the crate as well. This means any applicant working must have a dog walker in place to come 1-2 times a day if working. Someone working from home, part-time or is home all day, is the best fit. We only ask this to avoid you coming home to accidents every day, which can result in the return of the dog. 3. All of the yorkies are small under 8 pounds. We ask for adult households due to the small size of the dogs.
