Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). What can you say about a 7 month old puppy that was dropped off at Floyd County Animal Control barely able to walk? What was the owner thinking would happen to this baby? Ares came to us as an adorable puppy with limited mobility but his disability never affected his spirit and love of life. Ares is a happy playful boy that loves his foster sisters and every human that he meets. How can I describe the fear, frustration, anger and complete sadness over the diagnosis of a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder for this happy go lucky guy? My first reaction is we are going to fight to find out what it is and cure it! All of my respected vets have told me that knowing what the illness is, will not change the outcome of a poor long term prognosis causing his condition to deteriorate over time. When we first got Ares, we hoped it was lack of muscle development due to being crated far too long. Ares has been through massage, acupuncture, hydro-therapy, multiple tests both with a local vet and at the UGA Vet Hospital and countless medications. At first, Ares showed some signs of improvement but about 6 weeks into it, he started regressing. We have had 3 appointments at UGA vet hospital and we are trying one final test that is really a shot in the dark. Every vet we have consulted has given us the same answer: degenerative neuro-muscular disorder. Ares' foster mom(who is far braver than I) has promised to continue with the multiple vet appointments and give him as much care, comfort and love as he deserves. We don't know how long Ares has but we want him to know there is love and that we won't give up on him. The vets at UGA think a cart and physical therapy could keep him mobile and mentally healthy longer. Our local vet will rent us a cart for him but we need funds for both. We are strapped financially, Ares medical bills have topped $4300.00 to date and we have recieved $1045 in donations. The break down: bi-weekly hydro therapy $200 each visit, acupuncture and skeletal balancing(almost $2600) and the testing at our first vet and UGA($1100), elbow pads because he had hygromas on both elbows as well as a harness($250) and used cart is $ 450. Siberian Husky

A.K.A. : Chukcha, Chuksha
Overview: The Siberian Husky is very similar in looks to the Alaskan Malamute, yet somewhat smaller in build and not quite as bold. Still, he needs a strong-willed owner who will stay in control. This dog loves to roam and explore, so he needs a nice big yard.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): male: 45-60, female: 35-50
Height (in): male: 21-23.5, female: 20-22
Colors: All colors from black to pure white.
Coat: Coat is double-layered and medium-length. The guard hairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smooth lying. The undercoat is soft and dense and of sufficient length.
Character: Siberian Huskies are not particularly good watch dogs, because they want to befriend everyone they meet. They love to roam and are full of energy and independence.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with other Huskies, but they need to be trained carefully if they're to be kept with other household pets. They will not get along with cats or other small animals, though they do well with children.
Care: Its coat needs brushing one or two times a week, daily during periods of heaviest shedding.
Training: This breed is very intelligent and independent. Handlers should take this into consideration and use patience and understanding during training.
Activity: The Siberian Husky needs to be involved in physical activities and requires a well-fenced yard. If they are not kept active, they can be very destructive and noisy.
Country of Origin: Russia
Health Issue: This breed is relatively healthy, but some have heart disease and eye problems, along with dermatitis.
Life Expectancy: 11-13

More About Siberian Husky Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Duke

      rescue
      Breed: Siberian Husky
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Cumming, GA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky (medium coat). Meet Duke! Duke is a 2 year old handsome red head that is super sweet! So far he's been great with the kids he's met and seems to love other dogs. He'd probably do best with medium to large dogs with his size and play style (nothing under 25 pounds). He is very playful and already knows some basic commands. He already seems to be fully house trained, loves going for car rides and is great on the leash! His only downfall we've found so far is he is able to jump or climb a fence so he'd do best with a very secure fence and an experienced owner to teach him the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. To find out more about Duke and how to add him to your family email us at releashedrescue@gmail.com!

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Akita (medium coat). Meet Apache! Apache is a 1 year old Akita/Husky mix with the most beautiful blue eyes. He seems to get along great with other dogs and loves to play. He's also respectful though if they tell him they need a break. He does have a tendency to chase cats though so he would probably do best in a home without them. He is an absolute sweetheart with people and loves to give hugs. Don't miss out on this very handsome boy!

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky (medium coat). I’m MacKenzie, I am a mini husky and I only weigh about 32 lbs. I love people; especially ones that give me massages, peanut butter, and let me snooze in the sun. I have a favorite spot, right behind my ears, that I like to get rubbed. When that happens, I make a funny sound, because it feels so good! I get along with people I have met here, including respectful children. I could spend my time jogging but I don't like crazy energetic dogs since I’m a really mellow girl. I am more of a people dog than a dog's dog. I need a house full of soft beds, people who like snuggles, and yummy treats! I am the sweetest little husky you will ever meet.

      rescue
      Breed: Akita
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: Cumming, GA
Posted Breed: Akita (medium coat). Meet Megami! Megami is a beautiful 9 year old Akita. She has recieved all of her medical care (spay, pexy, dental, vaccines, and bloodwork) and is completely vetted. She is in need of a forever adoptive home now. Megami is a sweet girl but prefers to be the dominator. She would adapt into a home with a submissive male but no small pets and NO small children. Megami does not care for children under the age of 12. Megami loves to get belly rubs, play tug of war, go for walks and enjoys a nice ride. She will wade in water and has already enjoyed her pool a few times as well. Megami is crate trained as well and has been groomed at the vet and at home both and is learning what grooming is. Megami will need to remain on anti-inflammatory due to trauma suffered a while back but has no permanent injury requiring any medical attention. She is a loving girl and acts about 3 despite being 9 years old. Megami is house and crate trained but is a good escape artist - she will climb a 4 foot fence as well. She does well when with her companions and going for rides. She takes treats gently and is guaranteed to make you laugh at her silliness! **Megami is a courtesy listing and not affiliated with Releashed Rescue. If interested in giving her a forever home please email us at releashedrescue@gmail.com and we will get you in touch with her foster**

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky (medium coat). Yukon is a beautiful black boy with perfect markings. He is a dog that requires lots of structure consistency and training. He is an Alpha dog that needs to learn he is not in charge. He is great with me but I keep him second in command and follow through with all commands. He weighs about 45 lbs. Good with calm submissive dogs, NO kids. He would be better in a quiet home with little distractions. Not sure about cats. He will need lots of rules, boundaries, structure and training as well as lots of exercise.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet King! King came to us when his owner decided he could no longer care for him. He has spent his whole life living in a pen outdoors so everything is new to him. He's still a little on the shy side but is making huge strides in learning to adjust to his new found love and attention. King and Queen are wonderful dogs around 6-7 years. They will take some time to adjust to a new home. They came from an extreme neglect situation and are doing well with me but still skittish around new situations or people. It is amazing how resilient animals are! They were malnourished and living in a pen for years with little human contact. They love other dogs and will play for hours but will wait to come in the door until the coast is clear of humans. They do not love the human touch but will tolerate it and show no aggression when touched, just discomfort. King and Queen will thrive in a calm, quiet household with another dog and lots of love. King and Queen are very bonded and i fear might regress if separated.Come meet King and give him the home that he deserves. For more information: releashedrescue@gmail.com

Posted Breed: Foxhound (short coat). Jethro showed up on our property on July 5th and was not able to defecate. We took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with anal hernias possibly caused by not being neutered. We neutered him and repaired the hernias and he is good as n ew! We even cleaned his teeth. Jethro refuses to bay at adoptions but when he sees an intruder, it is a beautiful sound! Jethro loves to snuggle and is around 10 but in great shape for an old man!
