Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (long coat). Comet (15 year old NM Husky) and Karma (13 year old SF Husky) – Seeking a forever home. These are the two youngest husky seniors you will ever meet! Sadly, they were surrendered in a divorce and are incredibly bonded so we will only adopt them out to a forever home where they can live out the rest of their years together. Comet is a neutered male, age 15, 54 lbs. Gentle, loving, sweet, easygoing with perfect manners. He enjoys hanging out in the yard, going for car rides and walks on a trail or around the doggie park, doggie day care, and snuggling with his daughter Karma. His health is amazingly good! He takes a twice daily liver support supplement and can jump in and out of the car. His foster mom took him to the doggie chiropractor for an adjustment and he loved how it loosened up his spine, hips, and neck. Karma is a spayed female, age 13, 37 lbs. She is so feisty she doesn't look or act a day over age 3! Karma loves all of the same things that Comet does, as well as running around with her foster mom's younger dogs at the dog park. A few things to know about our little girl: She does have some alpha tendencies and therefore should not live with another dominant dog. She has a mass between her chest and shoulder and is scheduled for surgery on June 20th.. Both have done well around children and cats, seek attention from people, share their food and water bowls, and are very gentle when taking treats. They are housetrained with doggie doors and have currently have 24/7 access to a fenced yard. Same set-up preferred for their new home. Thank you for considering bringing this special pair into your life!

Siberian Husky

A.K.A. : Chukcha, Chuksha
Overview: The Siberian Husky is very similar in looks to the Alaskan Malamute, yet somewhat smaller in build and not quite as bold. Still, he needs a strong-willed owner who will stay in control. This dog loves to roam and explore, so he needs a nice big yard.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): male: 45-60, female: 35-50
Height (in): male: 21-23.5, female: 20-22
Colors: All colors from black to pure white.
Coat: Coat is double-layered and medium-length. The guard hairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smooth lying. The undercoat is soft and dense and of sufficient length.
Character: Siberian Huskies are not particularly good watch dogs, because they want to befriend everyone they meet. They love to roam and are full of energy and independence.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with other Huskies, but they need to be trained carefully if they're to be kept with other household pets. They will not get along with cats or other small animals, though they do well with children.
Care: Its coat needs brushing one or two times a week, daily during periods of heaviest shedding.
Training: This breed is very intelligent and independent. Handlers should take this into consideration and use patience and understanding during training.
Activity: The Siberian Husky needs to be involved in physical activities and requires a well-fenced yard. If they are not kept active, they can be very destructive and noisy.
Country of Origin: Russia
Health Issue: This breed is relatively healthy, but some have heart disease and eye problems, along with dermatitis.
Life Expectancy: 11-13

More About Siberian Husky Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). This is Princess, I call her Blanca. She is 5 years old and UTD on shots. They believe she is an American Bulldog and maybe Lab mix. She needs a family who will shower her with the patience and love she deserves. I’ve fostered this sweet girl for over 6 months. She would really love to find her forever home. Although she is dog reactive she has lived with dogs in the past. With the proper introductions, I believe she would be able to adapt to another dog family member. (No cats). She came from bad circumstances. She was rescued from a rooftop in Tijuana Mexico where she had a litter of puppies without shelter and suffered a terrible sunburn which is why her skin looks so patchy. But it doesn’t bother her at all! She loves to play with toys, she has a giggle ball that she is addicted to. Tug is a favorite game. Her walks are the best part of the day. In the summer, she eats strawberries from the garden and loves to play in her pool. In the winter, she has a super cute coat she wears but refuses to walk if it’s too cold. In the evening when she is tired from playing, she puts herself to bed. She respects baby gates. There are a million other things she does which are doggone adorable. Just look at her playing in her pool all by herself having a great time! https://youtu.be/AJ4bQGtBPSg Put in an application today to meet this incredible wonderful dog!

Posted Breed: Beagle / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Brannon and Cara would like to be adopted together - The DNA results are in and they are Beagle/Toy Manchester Terrier/Yorkshire Terrier Mix and lots of other fun stuff! We have the DNA test results from one of the sisters that we can send out to you. Brannon (Irish for lil raven) seems appropriate with his color :) - Brannon is an active 37 pound pup. Cara is a sweet lil 29 pound pup. Fyi Cara is the light blue harness. Meet Brannon and Cara ready to report for adventure and find their forever home! They know the basic commands, love their leashed walks and hikes, enjoy visiting canine friendly stores and outdoor malls. At home, Cara and Brannon enjoy chasing tennis balls that you throw fast and low, keeping the squirrels out of the yard (must be the terrier in them), tossing around their toys, playing with their big foster siblings and you-and of course nap time! They alert appropriately to odd noises or situations and stop when acknowledged. They're great at stairs and elevators, meeting new dogs (with a gentle introduction), and enjoy meeting new people. Coffee shops are a bit boring to them right now but they're working on being patient. Brannon and Cara are a darling lil pair that rely on each other. She relies on him for courage and he relies on her to instigate the silliness. In the morning, they make sure that all, human and canine alike, have their fair share of doggy kisses. At night, they curl up into a little dog ball to sleep or at the very least they need to touch. They have their own cute little play sounds that they make when they're playing with each other before bedtime or before nap time-foster sibs weren't sure if to check on them or run the first few times they heard it...lol. Put in an application today for this adorable pair on small to medium size dogs!

She came to us with a tumor on her side and had surgery to remove it. We were prepared to treat Angel as a very old and fragile dog but this spunky girl was having none of it! Angel adores food treats, is always excited for car rides, and loves going for walks and playing fetch! She does not believe for one minute that she is a senior, although she is very gentle and quiet when indoors and has great house manners. She loves to curl up behind our office chairs for a nap. Angel has not yet been spayed as we believe she will not come into heat due to her age and were hesitant to put her through that invasive surgery. She is current on vaccines and will receive a rabies vaccination. Her shelter intake date was 1/11/17. PLEASE if you can give this senior girl a forever home with a ray of sunshine and a warm place to lay her head please contact Gail gtolleson @sbcglobal.net Lets get this girl out of a shelter and into a home where she belongs!

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Trudy is a min pin x and is about 6lbs. Her birthday is estimated at 4/10/2015. She was transferred to us from a shelter where she was on the euthanize list they thought she had an injury and maybe had a broken leg. But once we had her evaluated at the vet we learned she was born with a deformed spine and has spina bifida. She had a leg that she dragged and unfortunately we had to make a decision to amputate he her for her health as it was always getting infected form the dragging. She is a total cuddle bug and just buries her head into your chest and holds onto you and won't let go. She is very quiet and loves anyone and any attention. She has clearly been very neglected:( She is super friendly with other dogs and doesn't even growl at the big dogs that think she is a mouse and try to eat her lol! She loves to sleep in her baby play pen too. Since she has spina bifida, she is incontinent (fecal and urine) and will need to wear a diaper for the rest of her life. It really won't impact her life in any other way. If you would love a cuddly, sweet, baby (who actually sleeps in a play pen and wears diapers) Min is the girl for you. She will have a long and wonderful life when she meet the family ready to give her that chance. To meet her, put in an app today!

Tinkerbell and Nugget were both among some of the harder to place ECC dogs who lived for years with Every Creature Count’s late Founder and Executive Director, Sam Booker. When Sam suddenly passed away, earlier this year, this duo found themselves back at the shelter. Tinkerbell is a sweet little girl who is in need of a patient, loving person who accepts her for who she is and who she can bond with over time. Tinkerbell has issues trusting people and is afraid to let her guard down. She does get along with other dogs, and is particularly bonded with Nugget, who has been her companion for several years now. Nugget is an adorable, sweet and happy little guy who loves to be carried and held. He is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs his size. With bigger dogs, he just needs a little distance to feel safe due to his small size. These two sweet dogs deserve a second chance at some happiness in life. Jessie is a sweet, gentle, deserving young girl who is very much in need of a loving, calm and patient foster or permanent home. A former single mom, she was initially in foster with Every Creature Counts with her young puppies. She bonded with her foster Mom, but was afraid of others. Once her puppies could be adopted, she came back to the shelter. Jessie has trust issues to overcome and has made little progress in the shelter environment. She seems to bond with the volunteers in a one on one situation (mostly women), and will walk in the dog pack, but she still feels safest back in her kennel. She very much enjoys the company of other dogs, particularly females, and does have a playful side with them. Being in a permanent or foster home with other friendly dogs would be very good for her. She has had the companionship of several canine friends at the shelter, but eventually they are adopted and she is alone again. Please consider giving this sweet girl a chance to experience the joyful, happy life she was meant to live. Jessie is available through Every Creature Counts, a no-kill animal shelter located in Ft. Lupton. For more information please contact dogs@everycreaturecounts.org . Thank you!

She prefers women, I have worked with her a lot, and her trust is pretty broken with men. She learned from me and would do things for me, but I could never quite earn her trust. In a household where there aren't men who will have to deal with her would be best. She is good with other animals. Not certain about children, she would probably tolerate them as long as they respected her space. She might like some. She hasn't been around many. She is seven years old, vaccinated and Spayed. This dog has to go to the right home with a fenced yard. The fit will have to be just right. Sunny's current guardian will meet with prospective adopters to ensure a good match. I'm Scout. I'm a 3 year old female English Staffordshire Terrier mix and weigh 40 lbs. I'm looking for a new home where I can be an only child - I don't play well with other dogs or cats . I would rather have all the attention to myself. I'm a big couch potato and love cuddling and silly play time. I enjoy a good walk or hike now and then, too. Really, I'm happy doing anything as long as I get to hang out with my people. I never make messes in the house and am a pro at all the tricks I've been learning in obedience training. Plus, I'm healthy and vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. If you or anyone you know would like to meet me, email me at newhomeforscout@gmail.com or call Jessi at 806-336-5663 so we can chat some more.
