Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (long coat). Comet (15 year old NM Husky) and Karma (13 year old SF Husky) – Seeking a forever home. These are the two youngest husky seniors you will ever meet! Sadly, they were surrendered in a divorce and are incredibly bonded so we will only adopt them out to a forever home where they can live out the rest of their years together. Comet is a neutered male, age 15, 54 lbs. Gentle, loving, sweet, easygoing with perfect manners. He enjoys hanging out in the yard, going for car rides and walks on a trail or around the doggie park, doggie day care, and snuggling with his daughter Karma. His health is amazingly good! He takes a twice daily liver support supplement and can jump in and out of the car. His foster mom took him to the doggie chiropractor for an adjustment and he loved how it loosened up his spine, hips, and neck. Karma is a spayed female, age 13, 37 lbs. She is so feisty she doesn't look or act a day over age 3! Karma loves all of the same things that Comet does, as well as running around with her foster mom's younger dogs at the dog park. A few things to know about our little girl: She does have some alpha tendencies and therefore should not live with another dominant dog. She has a mass between her chest and shoulder; we had a biopsy done and are awaiting the results from CSU in order to determine a treatment plan. Both have done well around children and cats, seek attention from people, share their food and water bowls, and are very gentle when taking treats. They are housetrained with doggie doors and have currently have 24/7 access to a fenced yard. Same set-up preferred for their new home. Thank you for considering bringing this special pair into your life!

Siberian Husky

A.K.A. : Chukcha, Chuksha
Overview: The Siberian Husky is very similar in looks to the Alaskan Malamute, yet somewhat smaller in build and not quite as bold. Still, he needs a strong-willed owner who will stay in control. This dog loves to roam and explore, so he needs a nice big yard.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): male: 45-60, female: 35-50
Height (in): male: 21-23.5, female: 20-22
Colors: All colors from black to pure white.
Coat: Coat is double-layered and medium-length. The guard hairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smooth lying. The undercoat is soft and dense and of sufficient length.
Character: Siberian Huskies are not particularly good watch dogs, because they want to befriend everyone they meet. They love to roam and are full of energy and independence.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with other Huskies, but they need to be trained carefully if they're to be kept with other household pets. They will not get along with cats or other small animals, though they do well with children.
Care: Its coat needs brushing one or two times a week, daily during periods of heaviest shedding.
Training: This breed is very intelligent and independent. Handlers should take this into consideration and use patience and understanding during training.
Activity: The Siberian Husky needs to be involved in physical activities and requires a well-fenced yard. If they are not kept active, they can be very destructive and noisy.
Country of Origin: Russia
Health Issue: This breed is relatively healthy, but some have heart disease and eye problems, along with dermatitis.
Life Expectancy: 11-13

More About Siberian Husky Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Location: Evergreen, CO
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Willow is a sweet red-nose pitbull mix. She is about 3 years old. Estimated birthday is 5/12/2013. She is soooooo cute how can any one pass up that face, and those bunny EARS! Willow LOVES to go on walks and explore, she is a wonderful dog for Colorado adventures. Willow walks really well on leash and loves kids. In fact hugging kids is her favorite, she is VERY loving. Willow is in a foster home with two other large dogs, a 7yo and a toddler and does well with them all. Her foster home has been working on her manners and introduction to dogs, however Willow might just be best as an only dog. Unfortunately, no kitties for this girl. Put in an application to meet this lovely lady. She is WORTH it.

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). This is Rooney he is a little Min Pin about 3 yrs old (we picked a birthday of 12/24/2013) and he is currently 8 pounds. Rooney has a lot of spunk and loves cuddling with humans! Rooney is pretty rambunctious. He is great with other dogs but he wants to play play play so he needs a friend that want to play play play. He has blended right in with 2 small and one bigger dog and follows along like their new best friend. He is working on house breaking and does pretty well when going with the other dogs but has thin hair and does not like to go out in the cold. He is sporting a new sweater which keeps him warmer indoors and out so he goes outside more readily more often but does still need a nudge sometimes. Also under his sweater is a missing strip of hair up his spine, the length of his body. Not sure what has happened to him before he found a safe place to be but he is loving and adorable so his "racing stripe" is quickly lost in his cuteness. Put in an application today.

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Trudy is a min pin x and is about 6lbs. Her birthday is estimated at 4/10/2015. She was transferred to us from a shelter where she was on the euthanize list they thought she had an injury and maybe had a broken leg. But once we had her evaluated at the vet we learned she was born with a deformed spine and has spina bifida. She had a leg that she dragged and unfortunately we had to make a decision to amputate he her for her health as it was always getting infected form the dragging. She is a total cuddle bug and just buries her head into your chest and holds onto you and won't let go. She is very quiet and loves anyone and any attention. She has clearly been very neglected:( She is super friendly with other dogs and doesn't even growl at the big dogs that think she is a mouse and try to eat her lol! She loves to sleep in her baby play pen too. Since she has spina bifida, she is incontinent (fecal and urine) and will need to wear a diaper for the rest of her life. It really won't impact her life in any other way. If you would love a cuddly, sweet, baby (who actually sleeps in a play pen and wears diapers) Min is the girl for you. She will have a long and wonderful life when she meet the family ready to give her that chance. To meet her, put in an app today!

      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female

      Location: Evergreen, CO
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (long coat). Rosey and Dugan came to EAPL after their owner was sent to a nursing home and the family dropped the pair at a shelter in Oklahoma. The two sweet little dogs were emotionally traumatized with grief and recovery has been slow for them. Being bonded, they must find their forever home together. Both are adorable long haired Chihuahuas. Rosey is 9 years old and Dugan is 7. Neither have many teeth and must have soft foods. Both have a blood sugar/seizure issue which is easily remedied by feeding two meals a day with a midday snack and a bedtime protein treat. Dugan has heart disease and only 3 teeth. He has occasional seizures if not fed correctly. He is 4 pounds and a little crazy. It took his foster mom weeks to handle him without gloves and 10 months for him to come to her husband. A VERY VERY patient home is a must for him. "Rosey is excellent with small children, other dogs and even likes cats. She is an affectionate, loving, loyal, fun, and feisty little gal! Rosey is housebroken and also uses doggy pee-pads. She would do a very good job as a hearing assist dog because she responds appropriately to telephone calls and doorbells." Rosey has mild heart disease but frequent seizures when not fed gluten free, low carb keto-genic. They will need compassion, patience and a little time adapting to a new home but it will be well worth the effort to watch them blossom into loving, loyal, fun, and feisty little friends! Check out Dugan in his "Bad to the Bone" shirt! And Rosey with her Dino! Put in an app today to talk about this pair.

Tinkerbell and Nugget were both among some of the harder to place ECC dogs who lived for years with Every Creature Count’s late Founder and Executive Director, Sam Booker. When Sam suddenly passed away, earlier this year, this duo found themselves back at the shelter. Tinkerbell is a sweet little girl who is in need of a patient, loving person who accepts her for who she is and who she can bond with over time. Tinkerbell has issues trusting people and is afraid to let her guard down. She does get along with other dogs, and is particularly bonded with Nugget, who has been her companion for several years now. Nugget is an adorable, sweet and happy little guy who loves to be carried and held. He is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs his size. With bigger dogs, he just needs a little distance to feel safe due to his small size. These two sweet dogs deserve a second chance at some happiness in life. They need to stay together as a pair, but can live with other dogs who they get along with. For information, contact dogs@everycreaturecounts.org.

Please DO NOT CONTACT EAPL about courtesy listings. The pet owner/rescue/shelter and new owner shall make all arrangements on transferring the pet, information on history, vaccines, etc. Jessie - Two year old female black lab mix. Jessie is a sweet, gentle, deserving young girl who is very much in need of a loving, calm and patient foster or permanent home. A former single mom, she was initially in foster with Every Creature Counts with her young puppies. She bonded with her foster Mom, but was afraid of others. Once her puppies could be adopted, she came back to the shelter. Jessie has trust issues to overcome and has made little progress in the shelter environment. She seems to bond with the volunteers in a one on one situation (mostly women), and will walk in the dog pack, but she still feels safest back in her kennel. She very much enjoys the company of other dogs, particularly females, and does have a playful side with them. Being in a permanent or foster home with other friendly dogs would be very good for her. She has had the companionship of several canine friends at the shelter, but eventually they are adopted and she is alone again. Please consider giving this sweet girl a chance to experience the joyful, happy life she was meant to live. Jessie is available through Every Creature Counts, a no-kill animal shelter located in Ft. Lupton. For more information please contact dogs@everycreaturecounts.org . Thank you!

The pet owner/rescue/shelter and new owner shall make all arrangements on transferring the pet, information on history, vaccines, etc. The first it a little dog named Sunny. She prefers women, I have worked with her a lot, and her trust is pretty broken with men. She learned from me and would do things for me, but I could never quite earn her trust. In a household where there aren't men who will have to deal with her would be best. She is good with other animals. Not certain about children, she would probably tolerate them as long as they respected her space. She might like some. She hasn't been around many. She is seven years old, vaccinated and Spayed. This dog has to go to the right home with a fenced yard. The fit will have to be just right. Sunny's current guardian will meet with prospective adopters to ensure a good match. I'm Scout. I'm a 3 year old female English Staffordshire Terrier mix and weigh 40 lbs. I'm looking for a new home where I can be an only child - I don't play well with other dogs or cats . I would rather have all the attention to myself. I'm a big couch potato and love cuddling and silly play time. I enjoy a good walk or hike now and then, too. Really, I'm happy doing anything as long as I get to hang out with my people. I never make messes in the house and am a pro at all the tricks I've been learning in obedience training. Plus, I'm healthy and vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. If you or anyone you know would like to meet me, email me at newhomeforscout@gmail.com or call Jessi at 806-336-5663 so we can chat some more.

Posted Breed: Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat). This is Fiona, she is a small shih tzu mix, 6yo (estimated birthday 12/24/2010) she is about 10 pounds --- mostly fur lol We have tried to have her groomed but she is a little head fearful someone has abused this girl at some point in her life or most of her life - trust is a BIG thing for her. We rescued her from a local shelter when she was deemed unadoptable through them. EAPL said YES we can take the time to work with her and find the PERFECT home situation for her. Once you gain Fiona's trust she is a love muffin. Adults ONLY, no small children or small children visitors (or she needs to be tucked away safely), a non-active home (not a lot of parties, no weekend game day shouting hooping it up (loud noises scare her), someone that has a secure fenced yard, someone that knows/is familiar with small dogs and knows that they need to be on a harnesses/secure leashes before they ever see the outside world beyond a secure fence/door. Fiona would love to have another small dog in her life, she enjoys the company to pal around with. Fiona needs a forever home, one that will not give up on her - she is not a dog that can be moved around. She needs a forever home, not just a today home. She is a fragile spirit and she deserves to know that her new human(s) will love her the rest of her life. Are you her forever home? Put in an application today to talk to one of our volunteers.
