Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Name: Bridget Sex: Female Approx. DOB: September 2010 Weight: Approx. 50 lbs. Coat Color: Black and White Eye Color: Blue Energy Level: Medium to High. Personality: Bridget is a very sweet, playful girl and the epitome of a Siberian. She is always moving and ready to be at your side for some attention and exercise. She will be best suited in a home by herself with a very active lifestyle or with a male sibling to run off some of her energy. Bridget is a rough and tumble kinda girl with a soft side but can hold her ground if challenged. Unfortunately she has proved herself an escape artist and can jump her foster mom's 6 foot privacy fence so she will be adopted out to a home with leash walks only, running and hiking to burn off her energy. She can never be trusted in a fenced in area and certainly not a chain link fence. Good with Dogs: Yes but will be better matched with male sibling. Good with Cats: NO. Siberians are notorious for their high prey drive and typically kill cats, rabbits, birds, chickens, squirrels, opossums, etc. Good with Children: Bridget does fine with kids. Even gets belly rubs from her Foster Mom's neighbor kids. Siberians are typically good with children of all ages and the only reason we would not list them as not good with kids is because they may be too energetic and bouncy and knock over a toddler. House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Rides Well in Car: Yes Leash Trained: Bridget is a typical Siberian on leash. She is fine until she sees something of interest and then will dig her back legs into the ground and pull a semi if she were hooked up to it! She does tend to stop and smell the roses on walks as there are too many good smells to just pass by. Then she's off and running again. Basic Obedience: Bridget does know sit and is working on other basic commands. All Southern Siberian Rescue foster dogs are microchipped, up to date on shots, spay/neutered and on monthly heartworm preventative. For additional information on Southern Siberian Rescue and Siberian Huskies, please visit www.SouthernSiberian.com. To fill out an application, please visit How to Adopt. Southern Siberian Rescue is based out of Raleigh, NC and serve SE states only (NC, SC, VA, WV, KY, GA, TN) due to our required home check that is part of our review process. We will try to serve other areas, only if there is no comparable Siberian Rescue or Siberian in your area. If we have a volunteer in your area that can do a home check for us, we will ask that you be prepared to drive to Raleigh, NC to meet the foster dog of interest. You will need to bring all of you existing pets and immediate family members to meet our dogs. We need to know that it is a good match for all involved. For local adopters, we will bring the foster dog(s) of interest to you at the home check. SSR can not and will not hold dogs for anyone. We can’t. If we do, that means another Siberian will die in a shelter because a shelter dogs time is very limited, as is our foster space. We do our best to process applications in the order received and first application gets first interest in our foster dog(s). We understand that there will be scheduling conflicts with home checks and meet and greets with our foster homes and foster dogs and we will accommodate for that if a potential adopter has interest in a particular foster dog in our program.

Siberian Husky

A.K.A. : Chukcha, Chuksha
Overview: The Siberian Husky is very similar in looks to the Alaskan Malamute, yet somewhat smaller in build and not quite as bold. Still, he needs a strong-willed owner who will stay in control. This dog loves to roam and explore, so he needs a nice big yard.
Breed Group: Working
Weight (lbs): male: 45-60, female: 35-50
Height (in): male: 21-23.5, female: 20-22
Colors: All colors from black to pure white.
Coat: Coat is double-layered and medium-length. The guard hairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smooth lying. The undercoat is soft and dense and of sufficient length.
Character: Siberian Huskies are not particularly good watch dogs, because they want to befriend everyone they meet. They love to roam and are full of energy and independence.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with other Huskies, but they need to be trained carefully if they're to be kept with other household pets. They will not get along with cats or other small animals, though they do well with children.
Care: Its coat needs brushing one or two times a week, daily during periods of heaviest shedding.
Training: This breed is very intelligent and independent. Handlers should take this into consideration and use patience and understanding during training.
Activity: The Siberian Husky needs to be involved in physical activities and requires a well-fenced yard. If they are not kept active, they can be very destructive and noisy.
Country of Origin: Russia
Health Issue: This breed is relatively healthy, but some have heart disease and eye problems, along with dermatitis.
Life Expectancy: 11-13

More About Siberian Husky Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Siberian Husky
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Raleigh, NC
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (long coat). Southern Siberian Rescue is a volunteer based 501(c)3 organization so we do not have a physical facility with operating hours that you can visit to meet our dogs. All of our foster dogs are in our personal homes. You need to fill out our adoption application and get approved to adopt and then we will set a time for you to meet our foster dogs. As a volunteer based group, we all have jobs, family, personal dogs and other commitments but we try to acknowledge and process applications as quickly as we can. That being said, we try to keep our available foster dogs as current as we can but it is time consuming to get pics and information on new dogs so not all of our dogs are listed at all times so please fill out our app and then we can discuss dogs that will work for you and your situation. We average 40 Siberians in our program so we are certain we have one that will work for you. Please know that we are not obligated to answer inquiries on dogs as we will focus on processing approved applicants. Again, there is ample time to discuss all of our foster dogs AFTER we have an approved application on file. We do adopt out of state but we ask that you, your family and existing pets make the trip to NC to meet and adopt our foster dogs. Name: Bobtail Sex: Male Approx. DOB: July 2005 Weight: Approx. 85 lbs. Coat Color: White Eye Color: Blue Energy Level: Medium to low. Bobtail isn't a huge player with his foster siblings but he loves to hang outside with everyone. Personality: Bobtail and Winnie were pulled from a back yard breeder situation in Greenville SC. He was so flea infested, he ate his own tail off, hence the name. He and Winnie would be a great pair to adopt together if you are considering two dogs. Bobtail is about the perfect dog. He is a little timid and shy at first meet and may take some time to warm up to his people. He is also a bit head shy. He has perfect house manners and is so good, you barely even know he's around. He does love to gather towels and put in his crate. He doesn't chew them, he just likes their company! Good with Dogs: Yes but not really a huge player. Good with Cats: Not tested but probably not as Siberians are notorious for their high prey drive and typically kill cats, rabbits, birds, chickens, squirrels, opossums, etc. Good with Children: Siberians are typically good with children of all ages and the only reason we would not list them as not good with kids is because they may be too energetic and bouncy and knock over a toddler. House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes and he actually enjoys laying in it often. Rides Well in Car: Yes Leash Trained: Bobtail does pull on leash. Basic Obedience: Bobtail does know sit, shake with both paws and down. During his time at Nash Correctional, they taught him to run through the gym, up the stairs, across the landing, open the door and run down the stairs to his kennel all on the command 'home'!!! Southern Siberian Rescue is based out of Raleigh, NC and serve SE states only (NC, SC, VA, WV, KY, GA, TN) due to our required home check that is part of our review process. Biggs - LOST...

      rescue
      Breed: Siberian Husky
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Raleigh, NC
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Please help us find Biggs. He was adopted in December of 2007 and escaped his back yard on January 13, 2008, in the area of Dulaire and Pinecroft near Four Seasons Mall in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is listed with local shelters and flyers have been posted but sadly there have been no sightings of Biggs at all. We fear he was picked up or taken in by someone without a care that he is missed, loved and very much wanted back. Biggs is microchipped and has both an ID tag and rabies tag on his collar. Makes no sense that someone would find him and not contact us. We are very hopeful that Biggs is okay and that his microchip will get him back to us. Please keep an eye out for him and contact us if you think you know where he is or who may have him. Biggs is a black and white male Siberian with blue eyes. His approximate DOB is May 2006 and he weighs about 46 lbs. He is tall, leggy and very friendly. Biggs is a goof ball. He's just happy to be around and having fun. He loves to romp and play with his foster siblings, is great with humans but not tested with cats. Biggs is a black and white male Siberian with blue eyes. His approximate DOB is May 2006 and he weighs about 46 lbs. He is tall and leggy...better to run and jump in the back yard. Biggs is new to our program but so far we know he crates well, does pretty well on leash but does dig some in the back yard. He has marked in his foster home upon arrival but not done so recently. He has not shown much interest in chew toys but will occasionally grab a Nylabone. He has not challenged the fence at his Foster Home, but that fence is hotwired. He is working on sit and other basic commands. He loves to cuddle and snuggle. Please check back on Biggs as he settled into his foster home and we learn a bit more about him.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (long coat). Name: Nellie Sex: Female Approx. DOB: January 2010 Weight: Approx. 45 lbs. Coat Color: Red and White Wooly Eye Color: Blue Energy Level: Low to Medium Personality: Nellie came to us completely matted and just a mess. The wooly coat requires much more grooming so she will need a home that understands that and gets her to the groomer. She is somewhat tolerant of brushing for short periods but if you try too long, she will snap at you. She is a happy, bouncy girl but can be the laziest sun bather and napper. She is cute as a button and will follow her people around but she does have a snappy side to her as well. She is startled by quick approaches and does not like to be led by her collar. You can leash her up just fine but she is untrusting if you try to lead her anywhere by her collar. She will put the brakes on and try to get away from you. Shortly after she came to us, she started having seizures. Her bloodwork is fine but her seizures lasted 4 plus minutes so she is now on phenobarb. She has not had another seizure since she has been on meds. Good with Dogs: Yes but only engages with a handful of dogs in her foster home. Good with Cats: Not tested but probably not as Siberians are notorious for their high prey drive and typically kill cats, rabbits, birds, chickens, squirrels, opossums, etc. Good with Children: Nellie can be a bit snappy sometimes so she will be best in a home with children 13 or older. She sometimes is freaked out by fast movements and might be anxious with young children and their exuberance. Siberians are typically good with children of all ages and the only reason we would not list them as not good with kids is because they may be too energetic and bouncy and knock over a toddler. House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Rides Well in Car: Yes Leash Trained: Nellie is awesome on leash with no pulling.
