Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Mixed (short coat). Free Spirit Siberian Rescue, Inc 501c3 My name is Leo I am a I am Male that is 2y old Breed Husky mix I weight about 45 lbs. I have Blue eyes with a White fur coat Good with Cats Possible Good with Dogs Possible Good with Kids Possible Energy Level High Special Training Details Sweet Leo was rescued from California, just a couple of months ago. Someone had used this adorable soul, as a bait dog....and then dumped him at a high kill-shelter (bloody and severely injured) so that he would die. He was full of holes from bites, one ear was almost completely ripped off, and the other had some pieces missing. Injured dogs do not get much time, in these places, and no one was stepping up to rescue him. With a lot of help, from our friends, FSSR saved Leo. A generous vet took him in, did surgery, and patched this poor kid up. After his wounds were healed- he arrived at the rescue and was a wagging, wiggling, barking and licking...... oh, so happy to see us....boy! Brand new, pure white, fluffy fur has grown in to cover his scars and his heart remains full of love and joy for people. Leo ADORES playing with balls and toys. He has a super talent. He is able to have two balls in his mouth and still, full-out, bark! It is special, hilarious, and makes us smile every time. He loves to romp around, play, and enjoys going for long walks to explore. He knows the commands sit, down, and off- so far....but is always willing to learn a little more- every day. Did we mention kisses? Well- he loves to give tons of those, too! He loves to be rubbed and touched all over.....but if you stop, before he is done, he will definitely beg for more. These beautiful, bright blue eyes have seen quite a bit....in a short amount of time. Leo has seen fear, pain, despair, and loneliness. Then he has seen gentle kindness, healing, and protection. The Dark Side vs. The Light. Leo chose to stay in the Light. (The Force is strong with this one!) Leo would now like to see LOVE. He is a remarkable young boy- full of gifts- and is desperate to love someone. LEO would like to show everyone, how truly forgiving and unconditional, a dog's love can be. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I have Brown eyes with a Brown/Black fur coat Good with Cats Possible Good with Dogs Prefers Females Good with Kids Over 10 years old Energy Level High How would you feel if the ONE person, that you loved, looked up to ,and counted on....tied you to a tree in a public park and just walked away........? That is what happened to Herbie in Georgia. Needless to say, sweet Herbie has some "trust" issues. But he has become a multiple volunteer favorite at the rescue. He LOVES snuggles and hugs and really loves the company of the "lady" dogs in his kennel at night. Problem is.... these "ladies" get adopted out and poor Herbie is alone..... over and over, again. He just needs someone to trust. To love him...understand him. We love him....but that is not good enough. Someone has to show him that he IS worthy...and will not be ever left behind again. He needs a mature household, with loving people and little chaos- for he tends to spook easy and is untrusting of large groups of people or children. He is an awesome peanut!!!! Loves water, sprinklers, and hoses..... talk about fun? Just turn on the faucet.....this cutie goes crazy...at the spray! If you are interested in being a solid Hero for Herbie, Please come meet him. This sweet boy will fill your life with joy! If interested in this adorable canine please begin the adoption process by filling out an adoption application. Click here for adoption applications.
