Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat). Motley was brought to the shelter by city workers when he was found running loose. He is a precious Staffie who was just terrified when he arrived at the shelter. He quickly warmed up to staff and turned into a big wiggly lovebug! Motley is about 1.5 years old and weighs 45 lbs. He has been neutered. Motley does not care for children (they make him nervous) and should not go to a home with children under 16. He appears to ignore cats and he seems afraid of other dogs so he would probably be most comfortable with other submissive animals or be the only pet. Motley has been through a lot in his short life and would thrive in a stable, secure home filled with love. As scared as he was, he never attempted to bite staff, but any animal who has been through trauma should be treated with patience and gentleness. Motley has already shown he will repay kindness with lots of love and kisses!! Motley's adoption fee is only $60. Unless otherwise stated, the adoption fee for dogs over 4 months is $120.00. Puppies under 4 months are $140.00 The adoption fee includes the animal's surgery, microchip, vaccinations, flea preventative, deworming medication, sample bag of food/treat samples and a free first exam with participating veterinarians. Shelter policy is that all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter. Our shelter is open to the public on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm and other times by appointment. If you would like to make an appointment to meet one of our many adoptable animals, please send an email to us at pvchs@joink.com. To apply to adopt, you may download an adoption application from the Applications and Fees tab on our website. The web address is www.pvchs.cfsites.org. More About Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Location: Hillsdale, IN
Posted Breed: Boxer / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Ed was surrendered to the shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. He is a 2 year old boxer mix who is 62 lbs, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. Although Ed came in with another dog, he can be picky about who he gets along with so we recommend a meet and greet if he is to have any doggie siblings. Ed has a strong personality and would thrive in an experienced home. He would do well with older children but would probably be too much for young children and toddlers. Please come rescue this handsome boy from the shelter today! His adoption fee is only $60. She is a pretty boxer mix who is about 5 years old and weighs 43 lbs. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines. Lorraine came in with another male dog but she is very choosy about her doggie friends so she would prefer to be an only dog. Lorraine had a behavior assessment and it was determined she is very protective, so she is not suited to a home with small children (she will go on the defense if you run up on her or stomp near her) She is a very good, sweet girl who is very loving with adults and is housebroken. Her adoption fee is only $40! Unless otherwise stated, the adoption fee for dogs over 4 months is $120.00. She is a darling little lab mix who is around 2.5 years old and weighs 31 lbs. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Mimi was not treated well in her previous home and is initially a cautious girl around adults. She ADORES children though and will let them do anything to her! UPDATE: Mimi has been accepted into the ADOPT training program where she will be taught basic obedience commands, housetraining and socialization skills. She should graduate in early March and her adoption fee is $150. Please contact the shelter today for adoption reservation of this great girl! Location: Hillsdale, IN
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Collie / Mixed (short coat). Lana came from a "rescue" that was shut down by local authorities. She is a sweet lab/collie mix who is around 3 years old and weighs 43 lbs. Lana is up to date on vaccines, spayed, and ready to find her loving forever family today. Lana was obviously injured at some point in the past as her muzzle is off-kilter. Her nose crooks to the side and part of her mouth appears paralyzed--but she eats, barks and plays like nothing is wrong so we will just follow her example :) Lana can be a bit on the nervous side and we do not feel she would be comfortable in a home with young children. She LOVES other dogs and appears to be fine with cats. Lana is hoping for a family that will love her for life, despite her rough beginning! She is only $20, so please come rescue sweet Lana from the shelter today! Unless otherwise stated, the adoption fee for dogs over 4 months is $120.00.
