Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat). Motley was brought to the shelter by city workers when he was found running loose. He is a precious Staffie who was just terrified when he arrived at the shelter. He quickly warmed up to staff and turned into a big wiggly lovebug! Motley is about 1.5 years old and weighs 45 lbs. He has been neutered. Motley does not care for children (they make him nervous) and should not go to a home with children under 16. He appears to ignore cats and he seems afraid of other dogs so he would probably be most comfortable with other submissive animals or be the only pet. Motley has been through a lot in his short life and would thrive in a stable, secure home filled with love. As scared as he was, he never attempted to bite staff, but any animal who has been through trauma should be treated with patience and gentleness. Motley has already shown he will repay kindness with lots of love and kisses!! Motley's adoption fee is only $60. Unless otherwise stated, the adoption fee for dogs over 4 months is $120.00. Puppies under 4 months are $140.00 The adoption fee includes the animal's surgery, microchip, vaccinations, flea preventative, deworming medication, sample bag of food/treat samples and a free first exam with participating veterinarians. Shelter policy is that all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter. Our shelter is open to the public on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm and other times by appointment. If you would like to make an appointment to meet one of our many adoptable animals, please send an email to us at pvchs@joink.com. More About Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Duncan

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Duncan was surrendered to the shelter when his family could no longer care for him. He is a darling 7 year old retriever mix who is neutered and up to date on vaccines. Duncan lived primarily outside so his housetraining status is unknown, but he does seem to be more comfortable living outside and he can be adopted to live outside full time with proper accommodations. Duncan is NOT a good fit with children as he was tormented by them previously and does NOT trust them. He is a bit timid initially but once he warms up to you, he bonds very closely. Duncan does well with female dogs and cats, but he can be choosy about his doggie friends so we do recommend a meet and greet if he is to live with any other dogs. Come meet this sweet boy today and see if you can make the rest of his days the happiest he has ever had! Unless otherwise stated, the adoption fee for dogs over 4 months is $120.00. Puppies under 4 months are $140.00 The adoption fee includes the animal's surgery, microchip, vaccinations, flea preventative, deworming medication, sample bag of food/treat samples and a free first exam with participating veterinarians. rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Beau was brought to the shelter after he had been a neighborhood stray for awhile. Beau is a very sweet lab mix who is about 4 years old and weighs 56 lbs. He is up to date on vaccines and has been neutered and completely treated for heartworms. Beau can climb fences, so he would need a home with a lunge line or electric fence to keep him contained or simply room to run. Once Beau bonds to you, he sticks right by you and is your constant companion. He is a good protector (was in a home for several days, bonded to the family and growled at strangers that would approach their truck) so he is an awesome dog who would adore being a loved family member. Please rescue sweet Beau, he has been here for months! His adoption fee is only $40!! Wow! **Beau does well with children over 10 years old. Younger children make him nervous and he will bark or grumble at them. He is NOT aggressive but we want everyone in the home to be comfortable, including Beau** Unless otherwise stated, the adoption fee for dogs over 4 months is $120.00. Puppies under 4 months are $140.00 The adoption fee includes the animal's surgery, microchip, vaccinations, flea preventative, deworming medication, sample bag of food/treat samples and a free first exam with participating veterinarians. Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Swagger was brought to the shelter when he was found as a stray. His owner contacted the shelter but never came to reclaim him, so Swagger is now available for adoption. This awesome guy is COMPLETELY housebroken, knows commands, takes food extremely gently and used to live with a one-year old child, so he is GREAT with kids!! Unfortunately he is not great with other animals so he would need to be an only pet. Swagger is already neutered, current on vaccines, and weighs 60 lbs. He is very loving and would be such a good addition to a family only needing one dog. His adoption fee is only $40 WOW what a bargain!! Jeannie

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Jeannie was adopted from us as a young puppy and returned at a year old. She apparently is severely allergic to fleas, and when she returned most of her fur was gone and her skin was very inflamed. After medicated baths and consistent flea treatment, Jeannie's hair has started to regrow and she is looking much lovelier. Jeannie does not appear to have been treated well in her first home (not only from her physical appearance when she returned, but she also is shy and fearful). It breaks our heart that Jeannie has had such a rough life at only a year old. She is current on vaccines, spayed, and heartworm negative. Jeannie weighs 40 lbs. She does have a luxating patella (floating kneecap) on her rear right leg but the vet recommended limiting activity and giving pain meds when she gets painful, but otherwise it is a condition she can live with. We just want someone to love Jeannie and keep her on flea medication so that she can have a comfortable, happy life. Her adoption fee is only $10, so please rescue this sweet, sad girl today. She will be so grateful.
