More About Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Red Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Maumelle Animal Services for more information about this pet. Rocky (Rock) Hi, my name is Rocky (“Rock”), and I can’t wait to be your new pal. I’m about 10 months old and weigh in at approximately 80 pounds. I have a smooth tan coat with some black and white markings. I was originally abandoned in the woods with my Great Pyrenees mom and pawsome sis, Rowan (“Row”), until some kind people rescued us as small puppies. We have come a long way and are now ready to find a forever family. Row and I currently live in the same foster home, but we would like our own homes so we can get lots of attention. Our foster mom’s Great Pyr has taken us under his wing and is teaching us lots of wonderful Pyr things. I am trying hard to learn basic commands (sit, shake, etc.) and to walk on a leash. I prefer to hang out and be a goofy boy that loves belly rubs and giving kisses. My doggy dream includes being your couch potato and constant companion, although until I’m out of my puppy stage I should be crated. Everyone who meets me falls in love with me! Date of Intake: Summer 2016 ROCK & ROW CAN BE ADOPTED SEPERATE OR TOGETHER. Rock is located in foster care. Meet and greets available. For more information, email us at Fosterchair.vp@Maumellefoa.org. Online adoption applications located at www.maumellefoa.org. Due to Rock and Row's nervousness around strangers, they are NOT able to be shown at our weekly Saturday NLR PetSmart showing. Appointments can be arranged at the home of their foster mom, located in Maumelle, AR. Find Maumelle Friends of the Animals on Facebook!

Posted Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback (short coat). Please contact Maumelle Animal Services for more information about this pet. Rose Ahhhhh, Sweet Rose! Rose was running around town as a stray for some time. She is terrified of most people and has lost all trust. She was finally caught after a determined two weeks of trying. Rose is very gentle. She pretty much stays on her blanket but will sometimes approach her kennel door to sniff a hand, staying just far away enough to not touch. She will let you pet her but she flinches with every stroke. Rose is very observant and smart. She has already learned which kennel is hers and she has picked up on the routine. Once she is vetted, she will be ready for a home. Rose is the type of girl that will become a Velcro dog once placed with her person. She has all of the potential in the world to be a great dog. She will most likely be okay with other dogs and cats in the home. Older children may be okay as well, teens definitely. Rose just needs to find her special place in life. Date of Intake: 8/9/16 Rose is located in foster care. For more information, email us at Dogs@Maumellefoa.org. Online adoption applications located at www.maumellefoa.org. We are always at the NLR PetSmart with our available pets on every Saturday of the month. 10:30 - 3:15 pm ish. Rose is unable to go to our Saturday showings due to her timid nature. Momma Madrè and Sonja are gorgeous black lab / cattle dog mixes. Momma (white chest) is around 3-5 years old and her daughter, Sonja, is about 9 months old. They each weight approximately 40 pounds. This family, along with brother Pedro, was found in Maumelle and never claimed. They were thin, filthy, and were covered in ticks. After some good bathing and deworming, they are much better off these days. They have been in foster care for about 6 weeks now and Madrè and Sonja were recently put back together. Madrè and Sonja get along great with other dogs and they are very people friendly, though Sonja can be shy at first. They both enjoy the outdoors and Sonja enjoys sticking her nose in the dirt. They have both mastered the doggy door as well. These two would make great pets for any family! Please consider adopting them together as Sonja needs her Momma!!
