Posted Breed: Vizsla / Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Welcome to Katie's Roadside Rescue! We are an animal rescue with the primary mission of saving dogs that have been dumped in the country or by the side of the road to fend for themselves. Fill out an application at http://www.krrtx.org/forms/ Adoption Fee: $170.00 Duke is a gentle big boy at approx 70lbs. He spins circles when he's happy and seems to be a calm happy boy. We have introduced him to other dogs and he's done fine as long as they are not overly active. He seems to get scared if there is too much commotion. He is very gentle to humans and simply wants to be with us. It appears he was on a tether most of this life and lived outside however he has recently started to come inside and is doing well with house training. Vizsla's learn fast and do VERY well with positive reinforcement. Duke would probably do best in a home with no small children. He is an incredible dog and would love a large yard to run in and family of his own that will allow him to be a part of the family. We think Duke may have survived distemper as a puppy and that is why he spins circles and has a quirky, but sweet, personality. He loves to bury his head between your legs or press his head in your chest if you are down on his level. Please open your house and your heart to him and apply at www.krrtx.org/forms THANK YOU FOR ""OPTING TO ADOPT""

More About Vizsla Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Fill out an application at http://www.krrtx.org/forms/ Adoption Fee: $170.00 Meet Chrissy!!! I have absolutely NO idea what mix she is but the girls all have some characteristics of long haired Whippets. What I do know is she is super cute, very sweet with the softest medium length fur. Her nickname is Kissy Chrissy! Her and her sisters were dumped in a ditch and lucky for them they were rescued! Even with a shaky past she wants to be near you and loves to interact and play. She is very food motivated so continued training will be much easier. In fact she went to Petco for an event one time and did some training. She picked it up super fast. She will make a great companion and will do so much better with more one on one then I can give her at the rescue. One disclaimer - Chrissy will eat ANYTHING so any family will need to be careful not to leave socks or clothing around. Dog bedding is iffy as well. Will you be her family? Fill out an application at http://www.krrtx.org/forms/ Adoption Fee: $170.00 Sydney is a true survivor! She lived in the woods for over 4 months that we know of so that explains some of her wariness and shyness at first meeting. Once she knows you are ok and she trusts you she is a great little companion. She isn't crazy of men at all. She hasn't let her foster dad touch her for months. So if the man of the house isn't expecting a lap dog for himself - okay. She is house trained, sleeps on the big bed at night or will sleep in her own. She is quiet. In fact - the only time I've really heard her bark was at small kids. So no children please - they simply scare her. She did try a home once as an only dog and did not do very well. Sydney loves to have a companion dog or two. She will not be adopted out as an only dog. She has wiry hair and when she shakes she looks like she stuck her toe in an electrical socket! She is a precious girl that deserves a wonderful life where she will never be dumped in the woods again. Are you the family for her? Apply at www.krrtx.org/forms THANK YOU FOR ""OPTING TO ADOPT""

Fill out an application at http://www.krrtx.org/forms/ Adoption Fee: $170.00 Bonnie is a sweet, shy medium sized girl that has had a really rough year or so. See Bonnie was living in a field next to a busy shopping center for over a year. She managed to dodge traffic and had several people leaving her food. In fact she was a bit plump upon rescue! She was initially in a foster home and did very well except she started to chase the cats so that didn't work. She has never had an accident inside and asks to go out and also knows how to use a doggy door. She lives with all the rescue dogs of all sizes and does great. Once Bonnie gets to know you she is a faithful companion. She does need a companion dog to help her with her shyness. She is now a love bug, plays, prances and dances when she is happy and is an overall great little gal. A little older kids would be best as small ones may scare her. Do you have it in your heart to give this sweet girl her furever home where she'll never have to fear being left in a field again? You honestly will not be disappointed. She amazes me more and more every day. THANK YOU FOR ""OPTING TO ADOPT""

Fill out an application at http://www.krrtx.org/forms/ Adoption Fee: $170.00 Nona has had quite the life. She ran free in a neighborhood on her own, had a litter of pups who were saved on New Years Day and a few months later she was finally caught and fixed and taken to a foster home. After a few days she escaped. A few days later she rethought her position in life and went back to the fosters front door and barked to go back inside. She's been there since. We figure after being back on the streets a few days she decided inside living with food, water and love was much better. Since, Nona has really adapted to the family living. She is house trained, loves to play with her toys and the other dogs, loves belly rubs and even nudges for attention. When going for walks, she stays with her foster siblings but she will not allow a leash to be put on - it simply scares her too much. So she will either need a lot of patience in training or she needs a secured home and back yard big enough to get some exercise. Nona deserves a chance to have a permanent home and a great life like all dogs do. Will it be with you? THANK YOU FOR ""OPTING TO ADOPT""

Although he is timid at first He is an extremely sweet and kind dog looking for the affection and love from a family. He was found living on the streets and was very fearful of anyone coming near him. He would cower when anybody would try to pet him. As his foster family started to gain his trust his sweet personality really started to shine. He now loves to cuddle and lay next to his foster mom and take naps with his foster dog-brother, Charlie. Caution is taken regarding loud noises and sudden movements as they can make him scared and anxious. Fortunately, as he continues to spend time in his foster home he continues to make progress in becoming more comfortable, less scared, and happy around people! He does well walking with a leash and using the bathroom outside. He doesn't like being alone so he really enjoys having the company of Charlie and loves to take naps and go on walks with him. Children tend to make him nervous and scared so he might do better in a home with mainly adults or perhaps older children. Overall junior is a very sweet and loving dog wanting to bond and find his fur ever family!" THANK YOU FOR ""OPTING TO ADOPT""

Smiley is housetrained and knows the doggy door. He was born to feral parents in the country and even though he has been raised in a home setting seems to keep some characteristics of his parents. He remains shy of strangers, for some strange reason, and children make him nervous (probably because they move so fast). Once familiar with you he is an absolute devoted love (treating him with ice cubes will win him over even faster). The transition will take time and patience but believe me, the rewards will be a lifetime of devoted love. Smiley will do best with older adults or no kids in the home so he can be fully dedicated to his parents. He is fully vetted, microchipped and house trainined. He was living on the streets for at least 3 years in survival mode before he gave up and started staying on a kind persons front porch (they called the rescue for him). Despite all of this, he has a heart of gold. He is fully house trained, good in the crate, gets along with other dogs and tries to get the cats to be his friends... He is simply adorable and wants to love and be loved. Opie has an old injury to his front left paw and he keeps his weight off of it about 80% of the time. This does not stop him or slow him down. He has mastered the stairs and he even will jump around a little when super excited. He even went on a short walk recently and loved it. Opie wants you to know that he IS handsome and his fur in growing in so soft and dense. He says he loves to give kisses and likes treats. He is learning to sit like a good boy too! He also says he is learning to like car rides but big trucks are hard to get into because of his paw, however, that doesn't stop him from wanting to go with his foster mom every time she leaves the house. Opie is a true love who deserves a new lease on life in a fuever home where he will be loved. Please consider opening your home to this very deserving and kind boy. THANK YOU FOR ""OPTING TO ADOPT""
