Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). NELLY - Austin 5 yr old gray female Hi there! I am NELLY, a beautiful gray Weimaraner. I am a sweet girl who loves nothing more than to be loved on and rubbed on. Well, okay, my other favorite activity is chasing squirrels in the backyard. But, that is a close second to being loved on and petted. I am potty trained and get along well with kids. I do not get along with small dogs, but ones my size are just fine. I came into rescue with several lumps that looked like bad news to the vet. I had surgery (see my cone of shame picture?) to remove them and test them. The tests revealed that I had mast cell cancer and removal of those lumps mean removal of most of the cancer. I might have more lumps show up later in my life, but with medication and a watchful eye on my lumps, I can have many great years ahead of me. Especially if I find my forever family. My ideal family would continue to work with me on learning how to walk properly on a leash and also be willing to teach me many other cool things since I am a smart girl. They would also keep an eye on my health as I get older. Another dog in the family is a must for me as well. Would you consider giving me a forever home? Please ask about NELLY when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Northwest Hwy, Suite 130, Box 184 Dallas, TX 75220 Phone: (972) 994-3572 www.weimrescuetexas.org We gratefully accept donations of any amount to help our beautiful gray & blue friends in need. We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Our rescue Weimaraners are current on all vaccinations and heartworm preventative. They are spayed or neutered, and micro-chipped. The adoption donation is $300.00 for adult Weimaraners, $350.00 for puppies, and $250.00 for seniors, special needs dogs and Weimaraner-mix dogs.

More About Weimaraner Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Bowie a 7 years old with a dedicated heart of gold. He might be an older weim but he will play fetch with you like a puppy! He shows signs of training: he knows sit, down, and if you present open palms he will drop the ball in your hand. Bowie also takes treats as if it were a delicate flower, so anyone can give him a treat without fear. He hates being alone and doesn't do well in a crate, also gets nervous in the car, so an ideal candidate would be someone who can have the patience to show him that car rides can mean fun! The good news is that he is super social and good with other dogs. The ideal home for Bowie would be a family (he loves children), a home with multiple pets (no cats), and an environment where he can feel free to roam around the house. Bowie will be your best buddy and stick by your side forever. Please ask about BOWIE when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. His foster mom uses the words awesome and amazing to describe him so that should tell you something. He gets along with other dogs and ok with kids that are a bit older and understand that he is a big dog that likes to play. He is housebroken and crate trained, not sure how he would do with cats. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Hank, a beautiful 8 year old, gray male who is looking for his forever home. He gets along great with other dogs, both big and small. Hank is both crate trained and house trained. He loves to ride in the car and will get excited when he sees a leash since he loves to go on walks too. He is a good watch dog and will bark if someone comes to the door. Hank sleeps on his bed in his foster’s room and would make himself at home on the sofa if she would let him. Hank is slow to warm up to new people and places, but will settle right in after a little while and becomes your typical velcro dog. He does have some skin allergies that will need to be monitored and medication given, and needs to gain a few more pounds. Hank is a wonderful boy and will make someone a great companion if they have the patience to get to know him and to protect him when he gets nervous. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Tucker! Tucker is a calm and super sweet boy who is looking for his forever home. Tucker is a very well behaved and well-mannered gentleman! He is fantastic with young kids, dogs, and cats. He would make a great companion. He is housebroken and doesn’t need to be crated . He loves his comfy bed, treats, and naps. Short, gentle walks will help keep his joints moving, but unfortunately he won’t be running any marathons. He will need a special family that is willing to give him some extra TLC. He was born with hip dysplasia and now has osteoarthritis in his hips. He will require medications to help manage his pain and inflammation due to the OA, but other than that he is in good health. He is very smart and has quickly picked up on some basic commands. He knows sit, come , and crate . If you are wanting a low-key boy, then Tucker is your man! Tucker's ideal family will help maintain his health with OA medication and give him a relaxing place to chill with a little bit of exercise to keep his joints moving. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Sawyer, a gray 6 year old male, who is very laid back, except for when it is time to eat. He is a very calm chill dog (If you are looking for a calm weim – he’s your boy!). He uses a doggy door to go potty. Rarely barks at people or animals (totally ignores the Doberman that lives next door that barks at him). Responds well to guests entering your home (even small children) – no jumping only sniffing. Loves to just be with his people wherever you are, sleeping with you or hang out on the couch, but will sleep on his bed if you make him. He is learning that car rides are a good thing and can be fun. He is also learning how to properly walk on a leash, without pulling. He does ok meeting other dogs, as long as properly introduced. Sawyer suffers from some separation anxiety when left alone. He does pace inside and will drool at the back door, but is not destructive. He is learning how to occupy his time alone with treats and food puzzles. Sawyer is not a fan of the crate, he will try his best to get out of it. Sawyer is very food motivated and is doing well with his training. He will however, counter surf and dumpster dive in the garbage if it is left out. Sawyer's ideal forever home would be a home with older children and someone that is home the majority of the day. He does not require a lot of exercise, just a short walk every day would be great. He mostly just wants to be with you. Please ask about SAWYER when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Gus is a handsome, gray Weimaraner with the most soulful eyes you'll ever see. This sweet boy had a rough life before coming into rescue and needs a routine, therapeutic environment to learn how to trust again. He already knows how to love, and will give it generously once you have gained his trust. The way Gus shows his fear is that he runs...he can be quite the escape artist. This can be remedied by taking him outside on a leash to do his business and then bringing him back inside. If you have a secure yard, Gus has learned how to use a doggy door, but he has been known to dig out, so it would need to be very secure. When spoken to, Gus will wag his little nub tail to let you know how much he is soaking in the attention. He is also a big fan of belly rubs. Gus will need another dog in his new home to show him how to trust and learn the ropes of living in a household. Gus's ideal family will be patient and gentle, and willing to overcome his fears and challenges, and with this sweet boy the rewards will be great. For more information about Gus, please fill out an application on our website.
