Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). NELLY - Austin 5 yr old gray female Hi there! I am NELLY, a beautiful gray Weimaraner. I am a sweet girl who loves nothing more than to be loved on and rubbed on. Well, okay, my other favorite activity is chasing squirrels in the backyard. But, that is a close second to being loved on and petted. I am potty trained and get along well with kids. I do not get along with small dogs, but ones my size are just fine. I came into rescue with several lumps that looked like bad news to the vet. I had surgery (see my cone of shame picture?) to remove them and test them. The tests revealed that I had mast cell cancer and removal of those lumps mean removal of most of the cancer. I might have more lumps show up later in my life, but with medication and a watchful eye on my lumps, I can have many great years ahead of me. Especially if I find my forever family. My ideal family would continue to work with me on learning how to walk properly on a leash and also be willing to teach me many other cool things since I am a smart girl. They would also keep an eye on my health as I get older. Another dog in the family is a must for me as well. Would you consider giving me a forever home? Please ask about NELLY when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Northwest Hwy, Suite 130, Box 184 Dallas, TX 75220 Phone: (972) 994-3572 www.weimrescuetexas.org We gratefully accept donations of any amount to help our beautiful gray & blue friends in need. We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Our rescue Weimaraners are current on all vaccinations and heartworm preventative. They are spayed or neutered, and micro-chipped. The adoption donation is $300.00 for adult Weimaraners, $350.00 for puppies, and $200.00 for seniors, special needs dogs and Weimaraner-mix dogs.

More About Weimaraner Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Male Male

      Location: Dallas, TX
Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Check out this handsome blue boy! Watcher is a friendly guy who loves going on car rides and schmoozing with people out in public. He is house and crate trained, good with mid-sized and large dogs, and good with children. He seems to have a high prey drive, so he is probably not a great fit for a home with cats or small dogs. Watcher has been known to guard his bones, so he is only allowed bones while in his crate. He has a few extra pounds that he needs to lose, so he will need an active family committed to making sure he has plenty of exercise on a daily basis. Watcher's idea home would give him plenty of exercise and activities, and continue his training. Fore more information about Watcher or one of our other Weimaraners, please visit our website.

Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Gus is a handsome, gray Weimaraner with the most soulful eyes you'll ever see. This sweet boy had a rough life before coming into rescue and needs a routine, therapeutic environment to learn how to trust again. He already knows how to love, and will give it generously once you have gained his trust. The way Gus shows his fear is that he runs...he can be quite the escape artist. This can be remedied by taking him outside on a leash to do his business and then bringing him back inside. If you have a secure yard, Gus has learned how to use a doggy door, but he has been known to dig out, so it would need to be very secure. When spoken to, Gus will wag his little nub tail to let you know how much he is soaking in the attention. He is also a big fan of belly rubs. Gus will need another dog in his new home to show him how to trust and learn the ropes of living in a household. Gus's ideal family will be patient and gentle, and willing to overcome his fears and challenges, and with this sweet boy the rewards will be great. For more information about Gus, please fill out an application on our website.

Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Eli is a handsome gray Weimaraner who was surrendered by his owner with his sister, Ellie. They are buddies but do not have to be adopted together. Eli is funny and quirky, and a big love bug. He knows how to work his people! He loves to snuggle (he'll even crawl under your blanket) and thinks that since he's on the smaller size for a Weim, he would make a perfect lap dog! Eli is friendly with other dogs, but would do best in a house with no other male dogs and no cats. Eli does not like his ears pulled (let's face it, who does?) and can knock down younger children when he's running, so he would prefer a family with older children or no children. He loves running as fast as he can around a large yard, and loves playing fetch while you are outside, but prefers being indoors with his family. Eli is a smart boy...he already knows commands like "sit," "stay," "down," and "here." Eli's ideal family will make sure he gets plenty of exercise, will work with him on training and house manners, and will make sure he has plenty of positive outlets for his energy. They will also make sure he gets lots of snuggles and kisses. For more information about Eli or one of our other Weimaraners, please visit our website.

Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Ellie is a beautiful gray Weimaraner who was surrendered with her brother Eli. They are buddies, but they can be adopted separately. Miss Ellie is a love bug just like her brother. She is on the small size as well, and this allows for some great snuggles. She loves snuggling up in a ball and lazily lounging around the house, but when you let her outside she can also be very playful. She loves to play fetch and loves sniffing out her surroundings. Ellie was previously a hunting dog and she still has those hunter's instincts. She is good with kids and other dogs. She is always up for a good scratch behind the ears. Ellie knows basic commands, and is always up for learning more. Ellie's ideal family will work on brushing up on her house manners and make sure she gets some daily exercise, but mostly they will give her lots of snuggle time and ear scratches!
