More About Alaskan Malamute Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Mixed (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Siberian Husky I am NOT for the faint of heart and if you are opinionated and like things done your way, then I am not for you also. That’s because I am very strong willed and strong in strength so I WILL get my way! I do not share the opinions of many of my fellow species so I would rather not have to share a house with another dog and have to listen to them yap all day long. I am a husky/shepherd mix so that makes me really smart! I bet there is nothing you can’t teach me if I am motivated. I am very loyal though to humans and when I have adopted a human, I will love you forever and will be very good at keeping you company. I do need to go hiking, running or pulling you on a bike or sled as I am very energetic and as I said earlier very strong. I need my daily exercise to keep me in shape. I am quite a charmer and I am told frequently how special I am. I try to down play my compliments as I get a bit bashful over the glowing remarks. I hope to adopt a human soon. Siberian Husky Ansel -This little charmer knows he's got it and is not afraid to flaunt it. Ansel seeks a mature and experienced new owner who can meet his every need and spoil him beyond his wildest dreams. Ansel would be happy to share a queen size bed with you but his preference is King size. He would love to hang out with your friends as long as they don’t bring their rug rats. He has to be the supreme King of the house. No sharing with other mutts. At 2 years young, Ansel is working on a career of being a really spoilt and catered too young guy. He expects daily walks, hikes and will also agree to do a little running. He will love you unconditionally and lather you in kisses just so you know you are loved. Ansel does not like to mingle with other dogs so please no dog parks. He wants to be numero uno. I might add he is a very loveable, charming and extremely handsome young man. So if you can meet his requirements, please come see him. Siberian Husky McKenzie is just a little over a year old and full of energy to burn. She would be best as a second or third pup as she has had brothers and sisters all her life and loves to play. She is a great kisser and will clean up any mess quicker than any other dog around. She will also keep you warm on a cold day as she enjoys cuddling. She loves to run and play at the dog park and is pretty good at recall, but there is room for improvement. She also hasn’t had much leash training so she can use some help there as well. Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Siberian Husky Raven is 2-3 years old and despite being horribly neglected and having a rough start in life he is an extremely loving and affectionate boy and is ready to start his next chapter in life with you. When Raven arrived to Norsled, he had almost lost all his hair due to suffering from a severe case of demodox. He was also extremely malnourished and only skin and bones. But, this resilient boy has made a huge transformation and is not jaded one bit by his past. He is not bashful and warms up quickly to loving attention. He is quite the cuddle bug and likes to give hugs to show you how much he appreciates you. He still needs some basic training with manners, but is very motivated to please you and will learn quickly for food rewards. Raven is just a sweet, happy, big goofball and would love nothing more than to spend his time hanging out with you whether that be at home, going for walks, jogging, hiking or exploring the world with you to see all that it has to offer. Demon is a digger if he is bored so a companion would be good for him to play with. Demon needs training but once he has greeted you and gotten the excitement out of the way he does calm down a bit. Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Shepherd (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Siberian Husky Hi, my name is Nadia and I am probably a one and a half year-old German shepherd/husky mix. I'm not sure exactly since I came from a shelter, but let me tell you what I do know. I need daily exercise like hiking, walking or playing an intense game of fetch. I am quite excitable at the beginning of a walk but I soon settle down and love to sniff bushes and trees. Treat balls and puzzles are another way to tire me out if you're busy or if you don't like to walk in the rain (I don't mind!). Although I like to play hard, I also like to cuddle hard. Belly rubs are the best! If I don't tire out, I can get a bit jumpy, but I'm working on it. My recall is excellent, I'm not into digging, I love to listen to my humans (sit, stay, wait, off...) and am ready to learn more party tricks. Being a shepsky, my prey drive is high so please keep me away from small animals like birds, mice and squirrels. If you think we might be a match, please contact Norsled for more information. If you are interested in any of the dogs, the first step is to fill out an adoption questionnaire found on our website and email it back to rescuenorsled.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Siberian Husky Here's what Cybil's foster mom has to say: Cybil is a great babe! She loves to puppy play. I'm not sure how much puppy play she had in the past but she's quick to learn what my boys do not like (humping is one!). She's very playful with my dominant dog and is mostly indifferent about my submissive Jasper. She's great around other dogs too. She was around a very fat husky and a spaz of a lab mix last week. The husky was a typical rough husky player which she didn't care for after a few rounds. Her tail was tucked under and she bared her teeth at him. I have not seen her lunge, growl or ever use her teeth. She rough husky plays with my Stetson (3 years old) until he tires out. Cybil has been around a lot of humans! She's a little slow to warm up to kids (under 8?) behaving erratically or petting her without a proper greeting. Great around older and disabled (lady with a cane) folks. She sleeps in her crate for a solid 8 hours, crates herself sometimes during the day, eats like a champ, fetches and loves to play. I exercise her before our morning hilly walk in the morning. She gets a walk at night too. Cybil is a chewer and can take care of a no-hide bone in 30 minutes!! Cybil does come to us for affection and will cuddle. Loves head scratches and all that good stuff. Breed: Siberian Husky
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (short coat). Please note we do NOT adopt to homes with small animals including small dogs. No Exceptions. Siberian Husky Claire's a very sweet, gentle, 5-year old, 50-pound, female, Siberian Husky with two ice-blue eyes and three freckles on her nose. She came to NorSled as an animal cruelty victim who'd never been allowed inside, even during prolonged 105 degree heat, lived in filthy conditions, had enough blown coat to create a plethora of Chihuahuas and not enough food to keep her at a good weight of 55-60 pounds. She preferred to stay just out of reach of her humans and definitely needed to be on lead to catch her, but once on lead, was gentle and don't pull. And just turn on the sprinklers to watch her go crazy playing. She preferred to go potty outside, learned how to use the doggie door quickly, so could be allowed to stay indoors during the day, and got along well with four other furry companions; a Pug, two Terriers and a Chihuahua. At the time of her rescue, NorSled had Claire fully vetted, including spay, shots, heartworm testing and microchip. Update: 08/28 -- Claire's personality has come alive. She wants to be with her humans and will curl up on the floor to be next to them. If it's evening and you're sitting on the couch or chair, she'll come over for hugs and petting (although she still comes on her own terms). She's remains sensitive about petting her sides, but that only involves her pulling away and is lessening as time goes on. She's learned that treats are for fun, waits for her share and now eats when her humans are in the room. Although she still loves playing with the other small dogs in the home, she'd definitely like a larger friend to run and play with and would make a fantastic jogging companion. To learn more about how to foster or adopt any of our current, awesome, NorSled family, contact please NorSled at RescueNorSled or call 800-471-5822. For more information on how to adopt Claire, contact her foster mom at ofkiltratt or call 530-701-6711. Siberian Husky Huron - "They call me Huron because that's the small central valley town where I was found. Norsled helped me when I had a mutilated leg including a broken fibula bone. I am all healed now, feeling better. and available to give kisses at any time you want them. I am a very friendly, warm and loving boy." Huron is about 1-1/2 years old and quite the gawky teenager, lacking in manners and training. He has apparently been on the street, and nobody taught him the rules, although he wants to learn. is one of the sweetest and most beautiful dogs ever, and everyone from kennel staff to vet office personnel (including the writer) are quick to compliment him. all who meet him tell him how sweet he is. at only about 50 pounds, he needs to fill out and finish growing up. Meanwhile, he is very strong and also unsure about new things like doors. so patience and kindness with this sweet boy will be rewarded with kisses and much love and devotion. and a dog to be by your side constantly. He does pull on the leash and likes to get his own way but with some training he will be an awesome dog.
