Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed. Currently Fostering in New England!! Meet Mama Amorina. Or as her foster calls her, Mama. She's a beautiful american bulldog mix who is looking for her second chance at life. She comes to Paws from our sister rescue in TN, Robyns Nest. Mama was found in rural Tennessee in a rain culvert the morning after a big rain storm with her puppy in tow. A good samaritan attempted to search for their family, but unfortunately no one claimed them. Mama has the sweetest disposition. We don't know what her past is, but we know she holds no ill will towards anyone. She enjoys playing with other dogs and is good with kids. Update: This past summer, Mama was romping with her canine friends in the yard and was injured. She was immediately brought to the emergency vet where it was discovered that she had a spinal injury that would require surgery. Supports of Robyn's Nest and PAWS New England rallied behind Mama, and raised the funds required to get her the surgery she desperately needed. The surgery was completed without any complications and she moved to a foster home for recovery. Mama underwent intense physical therapy and laser therapy so that she could regain function of her hind legs and walk. Volunteers droves hours each day just so she could attend. Many months after surgery and therapy, Mama has made an incredible recovery!! She does have a limp that makes her walk like a drunken lady. But we think that just makes her more adorable! Besides this, she has no other medical issues related to the injury. She is restricted from playing, and will be for the rest of her life, due to fear of re-injury. But that doesn't bother Mama. She is happy being a lazy love bug. It is believed that with continued physical therapy, Mama's limp would decrease and her walking would improve. Mama would love to go to a home where she could continue her therapy, but anywhere with a warm bed for snuggling sounds just fine to Mama. After all she has been through, she deserves a loving family to call her own. Mama charms everyone she meets instantly with her incredible personality. Some wonderful family is going to be lucky to call her theirs!! We do not have a brick and mortar building to house the dogs we rescue. We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. Dogs listed with Paws New England typically reside in various locations throughout the south (primarily Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas) and New England (not necessarily in the state of Rhode Island). You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not. Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $150.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. This fee is included in the adoption donation. Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary. Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your dog will help others in need. All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Hi! I’m Michael! My brother and I were chained as puppies by our owner and eventually abandoned at the property. The rescue folks tell me there’s a home with lots of love waiting for me, and I can’t wait to find it! I am a playful pup, and love to run and chase my toys. I get along well with other dogs in general, but I have to admit I like to play on the rough side, and I’m learning that not all dogs like this. When I’m done playing, I love to snuggle with my person. I’ll go in a crate when I’m told to. I’ve learned to sit on command and am working on other commands. There’s so much to learn about living in a house when you start out your life being chained outside! My foster mom says that I’m a wonderful dog and that I’m a pretty quick learner. Are you the person that will help me continue my training and give me the love I so want? Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Shepherd / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! Meet Ursula, a stunning 8 year old shepherd mix. Yes, she might be 8 years old but you wouldn't know it watching her walking and hiking. Ursula knows basic commands, she sits and lays down and comes when called. She is crate trained and actually enjoys spending time in her crate when resting but she can be safety alone outside the crate and is house broken. She enjoys car rides and going for walks. Ursula has attended daycare at John Gagnons Pet Resort in Colchester CT- she does well in daycare but John says she honestly almost ignores the other dogs - this is a people dog for sure. We think Ursula would do best as an only dog in her home getting all the attention she deserves. Her foster parents are madly in love with her and can't wait for her furever family to find her. Posted Breed: Great Dane / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Now Fostering in New England!! Hi y'all! My name is Hannable and I am looking for my forever family. I was abandoned by my last owners. Thankfully some nice people came a long and now I get to search for a family that will never abandon me again. I am a big cuddle bug. I LOVE to snuggle. I would love if you would come over by me so I can lay around and nap right next to you! I am a great pillow. My foster family says that I need to work on walking on a leash better- just when I see other dogs I get a little too excited but I swear I will work hard to do better! I like other dogs as long as we are introduced the right way. If I got to chose my forever family I would chose YOU! As long as you have a calm home and can give me a lot of love I will be the happiest boy around! **Update 2/14: Now in New England!! When you meet him, you can't even seem to fathom how someone would leave this docile sweet dog behind. He is an incredible cuddle bug. He follows you around and waits for you to sit. He will snuggle quietly with you. He hasn't barked and is house trained. He deserves a true furrever home that will enjoy him for his docile manner. He'd do best in a quiet style home with older kids. No cats. His head shows every bit of his Great Dane heritage and his body is smaller from a pit bull mix. His eyes will melt your heart. He looks more like that of a distinguished Hamilton than a fierce Hannibal. want more info? email pawsjeanne@gmail.com Name: Hannable Breed: Great Dane/Pit Bull Terrier Mix Sex: Male Age: 8 years 0 months Weight: 57.0 Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up to date Microchipped: Yes BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Children: Unknown Good with Dogs: Previously lived with a dog and did well Good with Cats: No Adoption Donation: $200 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Interested in a specific dog, please fill out an application if you are interested in a dog. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. How can anyone resist that face? Seriously. Like most of our dogs, this little lady's past wasn't a good one - found as a stray in Memphis, severely emaciated, covered in fleas and pretty sick - but she has recovered so nicely and is just gorgeous - even these great photos don't do her justice. Since arriving at her foster home, Sugar has proven to be so well behaved. She is completely housebroken, doesn’t chew anything besides her toys, doesn’t get into the trash and loves her crate and adores her 2 male dog roommates. Sugar has been female dog selective in the past, so proper introductions should be made. She is quiet in the house and not a barker unless she hears something strange, but quiets down when asked. She knows some commands (we’re working on the rest) when outside in our fenced in yard, she will come immediately when called. She is not food or toy aggressive at all and is so gentle when taking treats, a toddler could feed her! She has a medium energy level and is so easy to have around, loves to go on hikes and ignores other dogs, joggers and bikes when out. Currently she gets over excited on car rides, but we are working on getting her to relax. Her loving personality along with the fact she is so easy to have her around, makes her the perfect addition to any lucky family. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Nikki is a happy girl with a beautiful smile and the personality to match. She came to us when her owners moved and were not able to take Nikki with them to their new house. Despite having a lot of change thrown at her at once, Nikki has been going with the flow and is super excited to meet her new forever family. Nikki is currently living with three other dogs and is very friendly with them and has been enjoying tug-of-war and other fun games. She does seem to get a bit nervous when other, unfamiliar, dogs are in her face, but she has not demonstrated any aggression. Nikki adores spending time with her human pals and loves to give kisses! This gorgeous girl is house trained, crate trained, travels well in a car, and is doing a great job learning how to walk on a leash. She is an absolute sweetheart and a wonderful companion. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Hi everyone! My name is Sophie and I am pretty fantastic! I have had a very hard life so far. I was rescued from an abusive situation and because of that I am very fearful. Thankfully these really cool people at a vet said they would foster me! I have been there for a few weeks and I am doing really well! They say I am one of the sweetest dogs they have ever met- I think that is obvious! I am very loving but because of my life so far I need a family that is understanding of some of my quirks. I am working on potty training but will need further training once in a home. I also had a run in with another dog so it is best if I can be the only dog in the house however I am currently living with another female dog and after slow and proper introductions she is doing well! I love playing with toys and chew treated. I ride well in the car.I also love running and walking! I would love an active family to call my own. Please consider giving me a chance. I promise to give you all the love I have in return! Posted Breed: Coonhound / Redbone Coonhound / Mixed. Fostering in New England! Meet Kibbee! Kibbee is a gorgeous Coonhound mix who we estimate to be about 6 years old. Kibbee came to us after being abandoned in Mississippi, but we're convinced that she must have had a loving home at some point, because this girl is a love bug! She wants nothing more out of life then to just sit by you, gaze into your eyes, and be pet. Kibbee is a happy dog who enjoys running around the yard and playing with her foster dog siblings. Her foster mom says she settles down very nicely once playtime is over and it's time to come inside. Although Kibbee is enjoying her warm home and doggie friends, she can't wait to find a forever family to call her own. She will need a loving family who will continue to work with her on her leash training and indoor manners. In return, Kibbee will offer you unconditional loyalty and love. She just wants to be with you! She will do great in a home with other dogs and/or kids. She's gentle and does not jump. Kibbee came to PAWS with a foot injury on her rear paw. Don't be fooled because this does not slow our Kibbee down! She lifts it up from time to time but still runs and plays like the happy girl that she is.
