Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Honey Bear is an incredibly sweet, playful and charismatic pit bull. She is approximately 11-12 yrs old. She would do great in a house or condo as she has a low energy level and would be fine with a short walk once a day or every other. She has arthritis in her back legs and is on medication. She is dog selective and sometimes reactive towards other dogs on walks. Honey Bear thoroughly enjoys cuddle with her foster family. Honey Bear is 100% kennel trained for when her foster family is at work and does not show any signs of separation anxiety. Honey Bear is also potty trained, but due to her age, she does need to go out more often. When you tell her it's time to 'Go' she gets very excited. Honey Bear knows sit and stay. She is looking forward to playing in a yard of her own. She is full of love and has so much joy to share! Honey Bear is too interested in cats though, so no cats please! ** CONTACT INFO@MYAARF.ORG DIRECTLY IF INTERESTED - THE "ADOPT ME" EMAIL LINK IS BROKEN AND WE ARE NOT RECEIVING THE MESSAGES ** If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! $225 adoption fee applies. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $400. Isn't Daffodil a beauty? She's a smart sassy young lady around a year old who is looking for a home of her own with an active family or a doggie playmate to hang out with. She is good with cats and other dogs but does need supervision when playing to make sure her puppiness isn't overwhelming for her playmate. She is potty and crate trained. Daffodil is still a puppy and though she knows basic commands such as "sit" and "outside" she is a little mouthy and care should be taken with any children in the family. We suggest a dog savvy home or older kids only due to this but will gladly talk it through with any applicants. Daffy is a fan of destroying her chew toys, running, playing in the water and fetching as long as you will play with her. She is very clever and recently learned how to catch popcorn with her foster family! When she isn't playing she is very sweet and loving and enjoys her cuddles. She would love to be able to play in the water and sun all day and then crash and sleep next to her family members in the evening. She would really love to join an agility class so she can show everyone how awesome she is! We have promised her she will get to see snow topped mountains and the ocean once she arrives in the Pacific Northwest on April 17th. She was saved from a high kill shelter in Louisiana and her foster mom would love to tell you all about her stay with their family. Catahoula's are an assertive breed and we encourage adopters to do some research before applying. They are smart and loyal and will need constant training but you will get back what you give ten fold! As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters. Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can. It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process. Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Adoption Fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
