Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Reeses Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Weight: 52 lbs Age: 8 yrs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Reeses is a fun loving clown. His favorite thing to do is jump. He would be great for agility or a runner who needs a partner. Learning tricks comes easy for this smart special boy. He does the "commando crawl", sit, down, shake hands, roll over among other things. He loves the clicker and playing with a box. Reeses is crate trained and house trained. Despite being abandoned, he loves people but is too energetic for young children. Older children would be a better match. Playing with other dogs is something that he could do all day long. Cats are another story. He thinks of them as squeaky toys and therefore shouldn't be adopted to anyone with cats. If you want a fun-loving clown to keep you on your toes, please call Dallas or Esther at 757-583-8777 or email rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net .

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Retriever / Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Cheyenne Breed: Retriever Collie Mix Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: 7 years Weight: 52 lbs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Little Cheyenne was with her previous family from the time she was a puppy until a few weeks ago. Her family had a baby 3 years ago and Cheyenne had gotten very clingy to her mom. The mom stated that she couldn't take care of a baby and a dog who wouldn't leave her side, so they gave her to a neighbor to foster and then moved out of state. Cheyenne has become attached to her foster mom but is doing better with the anxiety through training and holistic medications. She gets along with children and other dogs but needs to be in a home without cats as she likes to chase them. She is very smart and knows sit, down, and high five and would love a family who will continue with training and games. She is a love bug and would love a home with people who like to snuggle and go for walks. If you are that special family, please contact Esther at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Arial Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: 9 years Weight: 45 lbs. Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes LOOKING FOR AN OLDER GAL WITH A LITTLE SPUNK??? Well look no farther.....Cuz you found her!!! My name is Arial and I'm 9 years young. Don't let the little white hairs on my face fool you though.......I still have plenty of pep in my step! I like to play sometimes but I'm also just as happy to hang out and chew on my bone or cuddle on the couch watching TV with you. I used to be an outside dog until Miss Trina rescued me in February 2017. It wasn't too bad......all the neighborhood kids would come play with me and my people would bring me inside if the weather was bad. Now that I'm an inside dog though, I love the air condition and all the fluffy soft blankets on the big comfy beds. Not to mention all the yummy treats and belly rubs! (I REALLY love my belly rubs!) Miss Trina is great and all, don't get me wrong, but I would really love to find a family of my own, with a fenced backyard to play in, and maybe even a sibling or two. (Furry or little, but not too little, human siblings.....I love them both!) If you wanna know more about me feel free to contact Miss Trina at757-404-5664 or kmwolf713@gmail.com.

Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Very sweet blind boy Ralphie Special Needs: Blind Breed: Beagle Sex: Male (Neutered) Age: approx. 5 yrs. Weight: 30 lbs. Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Little Ralphie was picked up as a stray in one of the surrounding counties. He is a very timid little man who gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is afraid of new people but is warming up to them as he becomes used to living inside with his loving fosters. The best home for Ralphie would be one with no small children. Older quiet children who are gentle would be best. We are slowly introducing him to being around other people in a pet store setting so he would also need a family who would be patient with him and show him lots of love. Training would be of benefit after he becomes acclimated to his new home. They don't come any sweeter that this little love bug. If you are that very special family who would love to shower Ralphie with love and patience, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

Posted Breed: Beagle (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Buddy Special Needs: Seizures Breed: Beagle Sex: Male (Neutered) Age: 3 yrs. Weight: 27 lbs. Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Sweet Buddy was a throw-away found running loose for over a week in a nearby county. He was quite underweight and timid. He is heartworm positive, and after a short time with his foster, he started having cluster seizures. Buddy was started on Phenobarbital to control his seizures, and so far it's working well. He will be starting his heartworm treatment as soon as he's cleared by his veterinarian to do so. He is a very vocal, energetic boy with a very sensitive side. He's very happy when he's comfortable, and loves investigating. He's still learning house manners, potty training, and appropriate social behavior. He enjoys sleeping and playing with his 2 large-breed foster brothers and his small foster sister. Buddy loves being held and resting his head on your chest, and sleeping on his back beside you in a recliner. He has met cats and seems neutral. He will require a fenced yard and a patient, loving family, and would do best with a canine sibling. If you are that special, loving family who wants to give Buddy his furever home, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150. Lady Bug Breed: Terrier Mix Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: approx. 2 yrs Weight: 49 lbs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Lady Bug was saved by 2 very caring people. She was dropped at a lady's home by one of her "friends". They disappeared and disconnected their phone leaving her with Lady Bug. The lady didn't have much and was having trouble taking care of her own 2 dogs and asked the 2 rescuers for help. They took her and bathed her, gave her flea prevention and asked Rainbow for help. Lady Bug was found to have a flea allergy dermatitis. She has been treated for that and given prevention. She is a love bug who gets along with other dogs and children. When cat tested, she showed too much interest in them so we won't adopt her to a home with cats...just for everyone's safety:-). She would love an active family who will "wear her out" :-). If you want a loving, energetic little girl to add to your family, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

      Reese

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Reese was due to be put down within hours of being pulled from a shelter in NC in April 2012. She was heartworm positive and very sick. She is completely healthy now and microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is around 5 years old and about 40 lbs. She is dog reactive and would benefit from training to help her overcome her fear of other dogs. She has not been around cats, so we're not sure how she would act. Reese has been around children ages 2-17 years and does fine with them. However, we probably would not recommend a home with small children because she does have a lot of energy. She tends to jump up on people, which we are working on. She is crate and house trained. Reese needs to go a home with a family who is active because she loves to run with her foster mom. She does well on a leash. She loves to play, but also loves to cuddle. Reese is a survivor and looking for her forever family. If you are that special, active family, please call Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

      Breed: Beagle-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Breed: Hound/Beagle Mix Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: approx. 2 years Weight: 33 lbs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Shiloh is a very shy girl who was beginning to come out of her shell with her family who adopted her in November 2016. They had fostered her since the previous August. We received a call recently, January 2017, from the family stating that they were returning her because she wasn't progressing adequately. She had chewed on the bed and was still having a few accidents. They also stated that she had been "a little aggressive" with their other two dogs. She never displayed any aggression when she was with the other group who had her. She had been attacked by a bassett hound at one event and went and hid in the corner without ever retaliating. She is getting better about walking outside and had become comfortable with her family. Shiloh needs a quiet home with no small children and a family who is willing to be patient with her and give her the time she needs to "learn the ropes". If you are that special family, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Angel is a very sweet 9 yr. old female American Staffordshire Terrier. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. She weighs 61 lbs. and wants to be a lap dog. She is crate trained, house trained and knows sit, down, stay, and her left and right. She loves people, children and most other dogs; however, she is selective about which doggy friends she plays with. When she wants something, or wants to go out, she sings. She has a very good voice. She was abandoned by her irresponsible owner with her 10 one-week old puppies. Her pups have been adopted, but not her. She desperately wants her "forever" home. Angel needs a family who is experienced with this breed and will give her the love and patience she deserves. If you have room in your heart and home, please contact Dallas or Esther at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.
