Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Hercules has been with us for over half of his life, and through it all has been a great dog. He is wonderful with other dogs, walks on a leash, is affectionate and smart. He loves kids of all ages, and truly just wants to be part of a family. Hercules is about 10 years old, and has good manners. He will chase cats, so he needs to be in a cat-free home. All of our dogs are available for a $150 donation. This includes them being spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and fully vaccinated. To adopt a dog, we require an approved pre-application, as well as a securely fenced yard. This means an actual, physical, fence. "Invisible" fences are not acceptable, sorry. If you live in an apartment and do not have a yard, we are not able to adopt to you. Please contact us at: dogtownmutts@gmail.com for details. Please note: we typically do not do "out of the area" adoptions. This would be any location more than 60 miles away from the Reno/Carson City area.

More About American Staffordshire Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed. Rocco is a very special boy who is going to be a great addition to some lucky family. He came to us from Iran, by way of Canada. He's about 16 months old and his breed is listed as "Iranian Mix" on his paperwork. Unfortunately Petfinder doesn't have that choice, so we have to make something up based on his appearance to get him posted. Anyway, he was badly injured as a puppy and as a result of having his jaw broken, he has a very adorable underbite. He is a normal puppy in every way, playful, happy, silly, and loving. His underbite does not bother him, nor does it get in his way when eating or playing. Rocco is housebroken, great with dogs his size or smaller, good with cats and loves humans of all ages. Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Spot may be a mature girl, but she is still a very active dog who has a lot of energy. Spot loves humans of all ages, and walks great on a leash. She is a bit hard of hearing, so a new owner will need to learn how to work around that. Having another dog as a guide would be a great thing. Spot is housebroken, walks great on a leash and likes going for car rides. She is very loyal and affectionate, and good with kids. Breed: Alaskan Malamute
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Alaskan Malamute (long coat). Mally is about 8 years old, and was surrendered after an incident involving a very small dog. For this reason, she cannot be adopted to anyone having a small dog (under 30 pounds), cat, or other small pet that she could get to. Malamutes and Huskies have a very high prey drive and if something runs from them, they want to chase and catch it. Mally is a very nice dog, she loves people and medium-large dogs. Walks great on a leash, is housebroken, loves to go for rides in the car. Great manners and affectionate, she just needs a responsible owner to keep her safe. All of our dogs are available for a $150 donation. This includes them being spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and fully vaccinated. Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Retriever / Mixed. Doobie is 80 pounds of love - a big lovable guy who just needs someone with a big heart and a lot of patience. He came from the Stillwater Reservation, where he was pretty much a "Rez Dog" and ran loose on the reservation. Since coming to Dog Town, he has been neutered, wormed, vaccinated and has learned to walk on a leash. Doobie has Lupus, and will require Prednasone for the rest of his life. He is down to a small dose every other day, which can probably be decreased depending on what the vet recommends. He is a great dog, very happy and easy going! All of our dogs are available for a $150 donation. This includes them being spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and fully vaccinated. Bell - A

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Bell-A (we already have too many Bellas) is our very nice Cattle dog mix who is finally ready for a home. When she arrived, she was very ill and our vet diagnosed her with Addison's disease. It is now very well-controlled with medication and she is able to live a normal, active life. Bell-A is only going to be available to a home where she will not have contact with children under 16. We are serious about this, so that means no visiting grandkids, no neighbor kids poking fingers through the fence - no kids, period. She is an amazingly affectionate, smart, athletic girl. In an adult home, she will be the light of your life. We all love her and are going to make sure she goes to a home that is capable of keeping her safe and healthy. Her monthly injections at the vet run about 125.00 and she will need these every month for the rest of her life. All of our dogs are available for a $150 donation. This includes them being spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and fully vaccinated. To adopt a dog, we require an approved pre-application, as well as a securely fenced yard. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). It's been a long haul with Hera, almost exactly a two years since we took her in from the Ft. McDermitt Reservation. Hera had a horrible fear of the leash, and it has taken this long to get her to where she is comfortable with people and likes going for walks. She's a super happy, friendly girl now that she's learned to trust humans. Hera would be a great family dog, she is super sweet and affectionate. Hera was just diagnosed as having an enlarged heart. She is on Lasix and Encard for the condition. She will need to stay on these medications for the rest of her life, but she has already shown improvement and her coughing has stopped. Our vet said that Hera can still live a fulfilling life, and could have several more years if she stays on her medication. If you would like to make her part of your family, we'd love to hear from you. All of our dogs are available for a $150 donation. This includes them being spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and fully vaccinated. To adopt a dog, we require an approved pre-application, as well as a securely fenced yard. As you can see, he has not had an easy life, which is the main reason we wanted to help him. He was found with the top half of his face missing, the bones had been smashed and the fact that he survived is a miracle. Sabour is super friendly - loves everyone even though he has been badly hurt by humans. He is not good with dogs or cats, so he will need to be an only-dog. He is able to eat dry dog food normally and drinks water like a champ. He is very well adjusted and we can all learn from him. We are guessing that he is about 4 years old.
