** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX. Prospective adopters must be able to travel to San Antonio to complete the adoption process. Please apply online at texasgreatdane/adoption-application/ ** June is a beautiful 2-year-old Miniature Pincher blend who weighs approximately 7 pounds. She initially is timid in new environments. But once she gains confidence in her new home, her sweet temperament becomes apparent. June is active and playful but also enjoys quiet time with her toys. She will make a loyal companion. June was also diagnosed with uveitis of unknown etiology. This means the lens in her left eye is cloudy. This could occur if the eye was injured at one point in time. She is not blind and she experiences no discomfort. June loves her toys! She often hoards toys in her dog bed. She also enjoys stealing shoes and dirty laundry for her collection. Her new owner should monitor access to these items and ensure all dog toys are designed for chewers. June may present an escape risk if left in an area without secure fencing. Household members will also need to exercise caution when opening and closing doors to ensure that she doesn’t slip outside or that a door inadvertently closes on her. She may need additional housebreaking training during transition to new home. June did test positive for anaplasmosis which is a bacteria infection caused by a tick bite and she completed a course of doxycycline. Please understand you are committing to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more.) You must be committed to housebreaking, age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization. Her adoption fee is $250. This includes her spay surgery, rabies vaccination, Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPP vaccination, Nobivac® Intra-Trac 3 vaccination, Drontal® Plus, IDEXX SNAP® 4Dx Plus Test, Tri-Heart® Plus chewable tablet, 24PetWatch® microchip, and leash and collar. Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at .saspca. Please ensure your application is complete before submitting. We do verify property ownership, landlord references, apartment/HOA restrictions, veterinary references, and criminal histories. Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio TX 78232. Event hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Additional questions may be directed to sagdinfogmail. ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
