this sweet 7-month-old Cane Corso mix just needs his forever family. At just 7 months old, Brucey the Cane Corso mix has already overcome a tough start. Brucey spent the first six months of his life being neglected and arrived in rescue extremely emaciated, but you would never know it from the loving, gentle boy he is today. He’s now healthy, happy, and currently weighs just under 40 lbs. Because of his early malnourishment, we don’t expect him to reach the typical giant Cane Corso size — which just means more manageable cuddles. Brucey is a total love bug who believes the best place to be is leaning against his people for affection. He’s currently living with six other dogs and three cats, and he thinks everyone is a friend. His play style is classic goofy puppy — bouncy, wiggly, and always ready for a game — so he’d love a home with another playful dog. Brucey is also learning his manners! He knows sit and wait, walks nicely on leash, and is almost fully house trained. At night he sleeps quietly in his crate from 10 PM to 7:30 AM like a champ. He’s a medium-energy puppy who enjoys chew toys, stuffies, and playtime… but his favourite activity is definitely snuggling up with his people. Because he’s still a strong, food-motivated puppy, a home with dog-savvy kids would be best. Brucey has come such a long way from the skinny, neglected pup he once was. Now he just needs a family who will love him for the rest of his life. Brucey’s Quick Facts • Age: 7 months • Breed: Cane Corso mix • Weight: Just under 40 lbs (likely smaller than a typical Corso due to early malnourishment) • Energy Level: Medium – playful puppy with a cuddly side • Dogs: Yes! Currently living with 6 dogs of all sizes • Cats: Yes – respectful and curious • Kids: Yes, best with dog-savvy kids due to his size and food motivation • House Trained: About 95% • Crate Trained: Sleeps in crate overnight like a champ • Leash Skills: Walks well on leash • Favourite Things: Chew toys, stuffies, and leaning into his humans for cuddles • Ideal Home: Brucey would love a home with another playful dog and a family ready to continue his training and help him keep building confidence after a tough start to life. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
