Posted Breed: Australian Kelpie. ARIAL NEEDS A HOME – PERMANENT OR FOSTER HOME SHE'S AN AMAZING, SWEET, EASY, EASY 22# DOG! NEEDS TO BE WITH ONE DOG HER SIZE (20-30 lbs) OR THE ONLY ANIMAL "AUSTRALIAN KOOLIE" METRO ATLANTA AREA ONLY Email passionforanimals5017gmail Arial’s Story (Breed states Australian Kelpie since there was no option for an Australian Koolie) Arial is a SUPER SPECIAL dog in that she is both blind and deaf, the result of breeding to obtain the blue eyes or the merle black and white color. However, what she lacks in senses she makes up for in personality and companionship. Arial lives by her favorite 3 s’: spinning, sleeping, and sniffing. Arial uses spinning as a way to show how she is feeling and typically the faster she spins the more excited she is. She will also spin when she is learning her environment or if she feels like she is in a stressful environment. Arial LOVES to sleep and it is how she spends most of her days. If she finds a blanket, it is guaranteed that she will make her way under it. At night, she likes to sleep under the blankets with you to stay nice and warm. As the weather is warming up, she enjoys sunbathing on the porch. And for the final s - sniffing. Since she cannot hear or see, she relies heavily on her sense of smell. On her walks, there is a lot of stop and sniff so she can take in her environment. She also quickly learns the scent of her humans and gets excited when she smells that they are home! Arial was originally adopted by a friend of the rescue group six years ago (she was a “foster fail”) as she was a special needs puppy who was spinning (& pitiful) in her run at another rescue’s shelter. Arial lived with three other dogs – Great Danes and a German Shepherd – and did very well with them. Devastatingly, her human father recently died after a long battle with cancer – he was strong and endured a LOT for a long time – but lost that battle Nov. ’21. Fortunately, his two Great Danes are now rehomed w/a former friend. Arial didn’t and was boarded at the Vet – very confused and out of sorts after living a great life w/her human Dad - until we found out and got her immediately (12/1/21). She would do best either in a home without any dogs (she has thrived in a temporary foster home without any dogs) or a home with dogs similar to her size (around 20-30 lbs). When introduced to a small dog, it upset her greatly (after all, she only has her sense of smell, which is too much, given ALL she's been through). Please, will someone who has the heart for special needs and is home (either work-from-home or doesn’t work outside the home) consider fostering (or better yet, adopting) her? She is SO SPECIAL! We met her and facilitated the fostering/adoption of her six years ago – just a LOVELY, SWEET, little girl (only 22lbs). Current on all vaccines; spayed; on HW prevention; microchipped; and HOUSETRAINED! See/listen to the BEAUTIFUL song, ARIA, by Yanni below in youtube link. The modern Koolie is the product of a cross between the Australian Dingo and the German Koolie, Food/Diet As a medium-sized dog, the Koolie should be fed a high-quality dry food formulated for medium breeds. Temperament/Behavior This breed is intelligent and hardworking in the field but fun-loving and easygoing in the home. These care-free dogs make a lively family pet and they generally get along with other dogs, cats, and household pets – they are also great with kids. Above all, however, the breed is just a nice, friendly dog that loves life and will enjoy every experience he has to the fullest capacity. Common Health Problems The Koolie is a healthy and hardy breed with a very long average lifespan. This is partially due to the fact that the dog has such a diverse gene pool. As such, it isn’t affected by many genetic health problems Life Expectancy The average lifespan for the Koolie is very high, between 12 and 18 years. This hardy and reliable breed is noted for its longevity. And when you consider the fact that Koolies are affectionate, smart, loyal, and playful dogs, you can expect a true companion dog that will be by your side for a very long time – a big part of your life.
