Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Meet Luke! Luke has all of the quintessential Beagle traits – the beagle bark, performing tasks for treats, cuddling on the couch, occasional mischief and following his nose! Luke is smart, energetic and lovable! He would do well with an active family that provides structure and walks. He loves taking walks downtown and hanging out at the restaurants and dog parks. He’s a bit of an escape artist so it’s important that Luke’s fur-ever home have a secure yard for when he’s outside. Luke gets along well with other dogs and is great with children but does not do well with cats. He is used to being in a crate during the day and is currently being transitioned to being alone without having to be crated for short periods of time. He likes to sleep on the couch or in his bed, and he sleeps through the night. Luke is neutered, has completed his heartworm treatment and is house trained! He’s just waiting for you! Visit Luke’s Facebook page @TBBRLUKE to see more photos and what’s he’s been up to!

More About Beagle Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Harrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $175. Coppers was an owner surrender to animal control. As you can imagine, he was very confused by his family leaving him there. The family did say he was good with kids. He is crate trained and house-broken. To signal he is ready to come into the house, Coppers scratches on the door. He also knows his name and will come running to see who is calling him. Coppers is an exuberant fellow that loves to play and get attention. He is a large guy that does not know his size. He will quickly roll over on his belly for a belly rub or climb up on your lap for a little lovin. Coppers has lost over 15 pounds with the help of his foster family and now has an additional spring in his step. Won't you give this big fellow a home?

Posted Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $125. My name is Shelby, I'm a ten year old lemon beagle. I'm great with kids and other animals. I'm house broken and all my shots are up to date. I love to go on walks and swim in pools. A great match for me would be a older companion that needs a loyal friend or a house full of kids. I sport a few extra pounds and I am diabetic and take two shots a day, but the medications I need are not very expensive.

      Breed: Beagle

Posted Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $125.00. Wagon is an older fixed male. He is reliably housebroken, but does need to get outside frequently. He is passionate about his walks and does reasonably well on a leash. He is very affectionate without being clingy. When you walk in the room his tail immediately starts Waggin’ (the name). He gets along with our other dogs, but he doesn’t do as well at the park. He has a strong, natural prey instinct so small dogs and cats are not his friends. He does have some heart issues, but in general is healthy and active. Note: “Waggin has some medical issues which any adopter should be aware of including an enlarged heart. Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue will always share all known medical history with our adopters so that the best possible care can be given.”

      Breed: Beagle

Posted Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $125. Murray found himself at animal control and normally that is not a good thing for a dog, but in his case, it was his chance at a better life. He was in pretty rough shape - he had significant hair loss and ear infections - and he was just generally uncomfortable. TBBR to the rescue! With time, TLC, and proper veterinary care, Murray is now a happy, healthy little beagle boy. His wag is back and more present. He has found joy in toys. He loves attention and snuggles and a soft place to sleep. He is crate and house trained and sleeps nicely through the night. Murray may have had a rough patch in his life, but we believe he has plenty of great years left and a lot of love to give. Please give him a chance to steal your heart; he certainly has stolen ours.

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $125.00. Doobie came into the rescue as a stray. We were told that his owner died and other relatives didn't want him. Doobie co-exists peacefully with the other dogs in his foster household, but he really loves his humans. He is completely housetrained and has been left alone for 4-5 hours with no incident. It’s best that he goes in his crate if he’s left alone, he tends to get anxious and vocal if he is left free to roam. He doesn't like to be picked up but will jump up on the couch or chair and sit across your lap so you can stroke him. He loves cuddling. Doobie would do best as an only dog with a single person or a couple who isn't gone for too many hours that won't have small children around. The perfect home will be calm with a predictable day to day. Doobie is best described as a sweet grumpy old man that loves to play with toys, cuddle, and sleep.

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Female Female
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle / Treeing Walker Coonhound. Adoption Fee: $175.00. Maisey is as sweet as they come. Her fur is super soft and you can see her gentleness in her eyes. She came to us because the staff at the shelter begged us to take her even though she is a little taller than a beagle. She was taken to a vet right away because her left eye didn't look right. She was diagnosed with dry eye syndrome and she will need eye drops the rest of her life. But like everything else, Maisey is very compliant getting the drops in her eyes. She is a wonderful girl. Within a day in her foster's home, she played with the other beagle and the toys. Maisey will make someone very happy. That someone could be you.

Poor girl needs some TLC, so we are glad we could rescue her. She has been spayed and now will receive care for her skin and teeth next as well as put on a good diet to help get her back in to shape. She does seems to be a very good car rider. She has been introduced to several dogs in her temporary foster home and has done very well.

      Breed: Beagle

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $125.00. Hi! My name is Dash and I am a handsome, loving, quirky guy. I will need a very specific type of home but I am worth it - I will love you forever! - No kids - No other dogs - Fenced yard My likes: - Snuggling. Right in your face. I may weigh 27 pounds but I have the soul of a lap dog. Most of the time I will take the hint and snuggle beside you if you need your lap for other things. I also like to tunnel under the blankets on your bed but my foster home doesn't allow that. - Playing fetch/catch. I am really good at this game and will play it as long as you will. I love to chase the ball and bring it back. I'll even drop it close enough so you don't have to get out of your chair. - Eating. I'm a beagle. 'Nuff said. I had some extra weight on me when I came to the rescue but have lost it and will need you to help me stay at a healthy weight. - Approval. I am smart and really want to please my family. I bet you could teach me lots of things! I have shown perfect potty habits in my foster home. My dislikes: - Dogs that are bigger than me. They make me very nervous and I may react by barking and even lunging at them. Lucky for me, most big dogs don't react the same way. I often get along just fine with dogs smaller than me, and my foster home has a guinea pig that I pretty much ignore. - The dog park. I will need a home with a fenced yard so I can play fetch but not have to worry about other dogs. - Vacuum cleaners. Brooms. Treadmills. Lawnmowers. I get a bit stressed and will protect you from them by doing my best to destroy them. *** If you read all the way to the end of this narrative and are interested in meeting Dash, please contact us for a private meet up to see what a great dog he is! If you have any questions we'd be happy to talk with you.
