Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). Big sweet handsome Oreo was dumped in a rural neighborhood and left to fend for himself. Just a big baby when first rescued by Emmy's Hope, Oreo weighed about 50 lbs. But he continued to grow over the next year! Oreo is very friendly, like a big lovable teddy bear with people. He loves to wrestle and play with other big dogs. Oreo would be great with older kids and would definitely enjoy a large yard to run in. Estimated birthdate: July 2014 Approximate weight: 80 lbs. If you would like to meet Oreo, please call or text Stephanie at 281-622-6549.

- Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
- Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
- Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
- Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
- Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

rescue Breed: Chiweenie Sex: Male Male Age: Adult Location: USA Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Chip and his 3 siblings were owner surrendered to Emmy's Hope Rescue at five weeks of age, along with their parents. Chip quickly found a family that wanted to adopt him but after only a short time, he jumped out of the man's arms, fracturing his front leg. When his broken leg required expensive surgery and a lengthy recovery, the family returned Chip to Emmy's Hope Rescue. Little Chip made a complete recovery and you would never know he had leg surgery. He was soon adopted by a second family and settled in nicely with another little dog, that became his playmate and companion. But just shy of a year, Chip's human mama got a new job that required long hours and travel, so again Chip was returned to Emmy's Hope. Shortly after being returned to the Rescue, Chip began favoring and licking the leg that he had broken as a puppy. He was taken back to the vet that performed the surgery and it was determined that he was allergic to the metal implants that were used to repair his fracture. The implants in Chip's right leg were removed and he is back to normal activity again. Chip is shy and cautious in new situations and when he first meets a unknown human. He is well behaved and good in the house and does well with a buddy / companion dog. He plays well with other small dogs, likes cats and loves to be with his special humans. Chip has waited a long time to find his special FOREVER family. Estimated birth date: August 2015 Approximate weight: 13 lbs. If you would like to meet Chip, please call or text Stephanie at 281-622-6549. *** ADOPTION CRITERIA *** YOU MUST: 1. Live in the Houston area (no more than an hour's drive away). 2. Be 21 years or older. 3. Have a fenced yard. 4. Have at least 2 years of good vet history, with current and / or past pets, including: annual Rabies and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza) vaccinations, annual heart worm test and using a monthly heartworm preventative.like 1 People Like ThisBe The First To Like ThisTags:Chiweenie Dog For Adoption in Tomball, TX, USA -

rescue Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix Sex: Male Male Age: Adult Location: USA Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Happy has been in and out of several homes since he was a tiny puppy. His first owner listed him on Craigslist. His third owner found him wearing the second owner's ID tags, but when contacted they said they did not want him anymore. Happy was surrendered to Emmy's Hope Rescue in January 2015. His third / last family was moving out of the country and could not take him. Happy is good with cats and he likes to run and play outside with other little dogs his size. When playtime is over and he is called inside, he comes right away. He is very good about going back inside his kennel, in fact he considers it his safety zone. Happy enjoys being petted but does not really like to sit in your lap, he prefers sitting beside you. He will snap at young children, they make him very nervous. Little Happy has been waiting a long time to find his special family, the one that will love and keep him forever this time. Estimated birthdate - Jan. 2012. Estimated weight - 12 lbs. If you would like to meet Happy, please call or text Stephanie at 281-622-6549. *** ADOPTION CRITERIA *** YOU MUST: 1. rescue Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix Sex: Female Female Age: Senior Location: USA Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Hillary and her buddy, Tom were found in a Tomball church parking lot. She wasn't wearing a collar or ID tags and she had no microchip. Sadly, no "LOST DOG" signs were posted in the nearby neighborhoods. Hillary had scars on her face, indicating that her former life might not have been an easy one. But now she is learning to accept and enjoy affection from her caregivers at Emmy's Hope Rescue. Hillary is somewhat timid and cautious when she meets someone new but when she becomes comfortable and trusts you, she happily wags her tail and runs in circles. :)) Hillary is a sweet girl and deserves the second chapter of her life to be as special as she is. She deserves a loving, secure and peaceful place to call home. Estimated Birthdate: September, 2010 Approximate weight: 48 lbs. rescue Breed: Jack Russell Terrier-Unknown Mix Sex: Male Male Age: Adult Location: USA Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Bojangles was found running down the edge of Hwy. 105, wearing a thick chain tightly around his neck, dragging a smaller tie-out chain behind him. The chain around his neck was so tight; it had to be cut off. It seems that Bojangles may have had very little socialization with other dogs prior to being rescued. He craves human attention, loving to crawl into your lap and be petted. He is learning how to socialize and be appropriate with other dogs. He particularly dislikes big male dogs and prefers female dogs. He would probably do best in a home where he would be the only dog or, maybe another female dog. No first time dog owners please. Bojangles will need an experienced dog owner who has the time and patience to work with him. Estimated birthdate: August 2013 Approximate weight: 23 lbs.
