Posted Breed: Bulldog / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Please contact ADOPTION (adopt@doggieharmony.org) for more information about this pet. Diamond is a sweet girl who was left homeless when her mom was evicted. The kind landlords took her in and fell in love with this sweetie, but Diamond is struggling to get along with all of the dogs in the household. We're hoping to find a forever home with folks that will love her just the same as her rescuer. Diamond is friendly and gets along great with the people. She is quite content in her friendship with one of the household dogs - Lupe - and they play for long periods. When Lupe needs a nap Diamond entertains herself with a Nylabone. She also doesn't seem to mind cats; she initially required some guidance on boundaries, but is now doing great with them. Diamond is best suited for an active adopter(s) who will provide daily activity and some routine training exercises. She is a smart girl, so it is important to exercise both her body and brain. Age: 2 y/o Weight: 50 lbs Temperament: Good with people/kids, some dogs and cats Training: House and crate-trained Vetting: Spayed, up to date on all shots, microchipped, heartworm negative Contact adopt@doggieharmony.org with questions or complete/send an Adoption Application. We look forward to hearing from you. Doggie Harmony's adoption fee is $175. To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an application and later, bring the adoptable to their home for a preliminary visit. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I’m an older gal (around 8-10 years) and my hearing and sight aren’t quite what they used to be. But does that hold me down? Heck no! I get around just fine.Just look at my video! I’m house/crate trained, great on a leash and can see shadows and follow your voice just fine. I’m soft ’n fluffy like a teddy bear and very easygoing. My favorite thing to do is just to lounge around the house, but I also enjoy going for walks and checking out my surroundings. (Lizards don’t get past me!) Other dogs are OK, but I would do best as an only dog or with another low-key/older dog like me. My health is pretty good. My rescuers are just working on getting a couple benign cysts removed during a dental. Might as well do all of that stuff at once, but nothing to hold me back from finding my forever home! Age: 8-10 y/o Weight: 15-20 lbs Temperament: Great with people and kids, prefers to be only pet Training: Housetrained and crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash Vetting: Spay/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative Contact adopt@doggieharmony.org with questions or complete/send an .
