They are really great family dogs an in an odd way, great therapy dogs. We’ve had Chesapeake’s for 22 years of our marriage. Atticus we had for 13 years an now we’ve had Tiby for 9 years. Both are very key to my hubby an helping him with his depression. An kids adore them. They are highly tuned in to the family. Very loyal .Excellent water dogs. President Theo roosevelt Roosevelt said his Chesapeake was smarter than most humans he knew an also said it was his favorite dog!. They are really too smart. They will train you if you don't train them. They love water but love outside but also are gently/living to owners. We spend a lot of time training them when they are young. Once trained they maintain. Really are sooooo smart. Great watch dogs. But a dog that doesn't bark at unnecessary times. They don't mind being outside, even in icy cold weather. In fact, they prefer being outside.
