Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Leroy is a male Chihuahua. He has a brown, thin, short coat, weighs about 7 pounds and is one year old. He is very sweet. He was pulled along with his mother and siblings from the Arlington shelter the day they were born. At 8 weeks all of the puppies were diagnosed with mange which made them lose their fur and it took about 7 months to grow all of their hair back. They can be a lively bunch, like to play and bark when around other dogs. On their own they are not such big barkers. Please let us know if you are interested in meeting him.

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Jenni is a 50 lb pit mix about 2 years old. She's very protective of the door and will bark but warms up to guests quickly. Jenni lives going on walks- I use a head leash to keep her from pulling. She is a GREAT dog to take on a jog. She's gotten along with dogs that I've introduced get to - she can play hard but also learns what her playmate will deal with. She is very sweet and energetic and enjoys being included in activities but will entertain herself. She is often placed in her kennel at night and doesn't mind it. She is house broken.

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). This is Bozley, he is a 9 yr old boxer mix that weighs 44lbs. He is a calm gentleman that just likes to lay around, occasionally bark at the doorbell, and sit by you while you cook because you will drop something. He is lazy. Walks are short. Bozley is house trained and good with other animals and kids. He would do best with older kids since he is getting older. He has some food allergies that can upset his stomach and cause ear inflammation so he needs food that is mainly chicken and rice, no dog treats. He is the most low maintenance dog, and the biggest sweetheart.

      Radar (Tan) ...

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Radar is a 1 year old. 70 pound Lab/Pit mix. He is energetic, playful, sweet and loving. Also very smart! His favorite activity is playing with other dogs (gets along with all-if they snap or growl at him he just waits it out or walks away), followed by tennis-ball retrieving, long walks, being petted and loved, and napping. He also loves to get in the pool. Not the least bit aggressive to people or other large dogs. He would do best without small dogs. Still sometimes shy of new people and can still be skittish when nervous. Loud noises scare him. Seems to be afraid of men but will warm up. Loves to cuddle and be petted, brushed, etc. Rarely barks, except sometimes when he wants attention or is guarding his house. He is scared of crates and doesn't really need one since he is such a good boy being left out in the house. All in all the perfect dog, with the normal puppy tendencies. Why he was abandoned by his first family we will never understand. He needs lots of exercise as well Needs a good forever home with a big, grassy yard to run in, at least one other dog about his size to play with, or older kids to play with. (He is very strong, so he may play too hard for smaller dogs or younger children). He is housebroken, but if stressed sometimes has “accidents” in the house, though rarely. Still chews so needs plenty of chew toys, etc. Loves the dog parks and definitely needs a way to run off energy every day, not just occasionally. He is not a candidate for apartment living, nor a home where he would be sitting a crate for hours every day or confined to a small area. Learns fast but can be obstinate, although training him to commands would probably be easy since he is smart and motivated by treats. He comes with a baby sitter when you leave town!!!! The current foster!!! ** Please complete the application to ADOPT at http://www.codysfriendsrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application/ or let us know if you would like FOSTER by completing the application to foster http://www.codysfriendsrescue.com/foster/foster-application/ We do home checks and have a 10 day in-home trial period before finalizing the adoption. Our standard adoption fees cover spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, vet check and heartworm test. Our dogs are current on heartworm preventative. Puppies over 6 months and adults are $250.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Daisy Mae is one sweet lady with the heart of a puppy. She is between 8 to 9 years old. She is very timid but is a happy loving companion once she feels safe. Daisy Mae was found homeless on the streets and it was obvious from her condition that she had been breed and/or had multiple litters of puppies. It is also obvious that she was a very good mommy. She mothers all her toys, or her "babies"; Daisy Mae does not do well around young human children however. She is not aggressive but is very afraid of small children. She also is very afraid of men and would do best in a home with a single woman or with a very patient and gentle man. Due to her age some of her house breaking issues are medical. . Daisy Mae's favorite place to be is on her big dog bed with her babies. she also enjoys her time outside.

Posted Breed: Whippet / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). JayD is a mix ...unsure if any chihuahua as we thought when he was young , he's quite tall as you can see in picture. Possibly has whippet and chihuahua mix. He is very playful , good with cats and other dogs, crate trained , potty trained , neutered , and doesn't bark much.....one thing he can jump very high so there has to be 6 foot privacy wood fence . Unfortunately he is very skittish and his foster mom has not been able to socialize him much outside of her home along with her other dogs due to certain circumstances , but will be working with him as much as she can. He does love to cuddle next to you , at least once all his energy is expended. Lol. He doesn't do well in public and tries to escape his collar at this time so any inquiries can be made to Cody's and his foster mom is always willing to chat with prospective adopters.

      Dylan

      rescue
      Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Dylan is 55 lbs and approx 2 years old. He's a pitbull mix rescued from a local shelter. Dylan loves laying by your feet or romping around in the backyard with his 2 foster brothers (also large pitbulls). He gets along with all dogs, but might try to play too rough with smaller dogs. Shows no interest toward cats, and coexists with two cats currently. Dylan is crate trained, neutered, chipped, UTD on shots, but will need to build confidence on leash skills as he is very scared of loud or sudden noises (such as cars zooming by). Dylan loves having his chin rubbed underneath and will fall asleep with all of the weight from his head resting on your palm if you rub him. He's a very sweet dog and deserves stability and a gentle owner. I think he would lay in bed with his owner all day if he could. He does bark to alert when he needs to go outside. He is always smiling! Dylan is UTD on all vaccines, neutered and HW-. He's dog and cat friendly, but sometimes gets over excited with little dogs when playing. Dylan loves to snuggle and get belly rubs. He's a pretty quiet dog, but will let you know when it's time for a potty break. He's crate & potty trained. He currently lives with two other large male dogs and 2 cats whom he enjoys. Dylan can be a bit fearful of loud sounds and fast/sudden movement, but never reacts, he would love a home that can be patient and understanding as he continues to grow his confidence. If you're interested in possibly adopting Dylan, please go to our website (www.codysfriendsrescue.com/applications.html) and submit an Application to Adopt. It may take us a couple days to review your application and check your vet reference. After we approve your application we will contact you to schedule a meet and greet and home visit. We allow a 10-day home trial to be sure the dog is a good fit before you finalize the adoption. The adoption fee ($200, tax-deductible donation) is collected at the start of the home trial and is held until you finalize the adoption. The adoption fee covers vetting (spay/neuter and age-appropriate vaccinations) and a micro-chip. Please note: We update our Petfinder listings regularly. If you're reading this bio, this dog is still available for adoption, and we're accepting applications. We don't adopt pit bulls or pit bull mixes to people who live in apartments with breed restrictions. Please check with your rental office or landlord to see whether breed restrictions apply. Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Cody's Friends Rescue!

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Two to three year old black male, pitbull mix. Completely neutered with all of his shots and completely house trained. Since the day he was found, all 50 lbs of Sock’s has been a goof ball. He loves to cuddle and give friendly kisses any chance he can. He is the sweetest, most loving dog that just wants to be shown love from a devoted owner. He loves to go on walks and have his belly rubbed as he smiles at you on his back. He’ll never turn down the opportunity to play fetch and plays great with other dogs (not cats though). When allowed, he enjoys curling up next to you and taking naps on your chest. Loyal. Obedient. Friendly. Loving. Socks is looking for an owner that will show him as much love as he is always willing to give. With such a personality, any owner would be lucky to find a dog as sweet as this one.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Toby is a mix of something very cute.. possibly some terrier, possibly some lab.. but regardless he's a cute bundle of love. Toby is a year old . He loves to play chase with his foster siblings and will snuggle up close to anyone who will let him. He has just enough sass to be cute and let you know if he doesn't like something or when he wants something, but always very sweet! He is a total lover boy. Loves all sizes of dogs and is very easy. Just adorable. He has the prettiest face but hard to catch with the camera! Toby weighs about 48 lbs. He was rescued from a shelter and thought to be adopted by his foster family. At 11 months they decided they could not have another dog so Toby was abandoned. We love him and he will love you!
