Oliver is an 11 year old Chihuahua and weighs 6 pounds. There is never a dull moment with Oliver, the Chihuahua!. He is an extremely happy go lucky dude, very affectionate and thrives on being near people. Oliver gets along well with dogs, cats, and children. This tiny gentleman is even a bit playful! He is working on potty training and even learning how to use a potty pad. He is crated at night and can spend up to 9 hours in an x-pen during the day. Oliver loves to go on walks and enjoys car adventures as well. Due to allergies, Oliver is required to eat a raw diet (email us for more info). But wait, there’s more! The most important thing to know about Oliver is that he is a professional cuddler! His cuddle tank is full and he is ready to love you with his cuddles! He is happiest when he is right next to his human being loved. He isn't quite sure about men so would do best in a women only household. He is a curious pup and will follow you around so he can be involved in whatever it is you are doing. His funny antics and enthusiastic personality are sure to keep you laughing and entertained. If you’re looking for a sweet and affectionate companion in life, look no further! Oliver is that and so much more, wrapped up into a tiny and amazing Chihuahua package! Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

She is very sweet and loving with humans. She loves to play with dogs and would love a playmate close to her own size or smaller. She thoroughly enjoys having another dog to pal around with and wants to find just the right fit for her new fur sibling. Plus, having another dog for her to hang with is good for her exercise regimen. Oh, what fun it is learning how to be a dog. Meal time is her favorite and she will often double check her bowl to make sure she didn't miss anything. Her hobbies include sitting on the back porch, sleeping, and playing with rope toys. She has discovered the kitchen garbage can and has determined that it can provide a midnight snack if it is not emptied each night. Monarch has a very relaxed personality. She is really warming up to people and enjoys keeping tabs on her foster family. She is very concerned about where they are at all times. She is a very curious dog who loves to sniff around at everything. She is 99% house trained and does well letting her people know when she needs to go out in the middle of the night. She is not content in a crate, but she clearly does so well at being good while in the house. She is also learning commands for “sit and "outside". She occasionally walks on a leash, but not every day, so needs a little more practice. She enjoys the freedom of a fenced in yard so she can roam and sniff around. She’s very quiet and only barks when alarmed. Monarch has poor vision, yet she does very well when her eyes are cleaned and properly cared for reagularly. She is picking up on name recognition and due to her limited sight, her foster family is working on whistle and exaggerated hand motions to get her to obey/come. She is doing great! I am about 11 years old and 7 pounds. If you look up the definition of what a cutie is, you will find my name there! When I see my foster family, I like to dance around and wag my tail! I am adjusting to life in a home and learning about the joys of human touch. I am cautious when getting pets or picked up at first, but I do enjoy attention and being loved once I am in your arms. If you pet me behind the ears or rub my back, we will be best friends. We also will be best friends if you sing to me! My foster family sings to me and the daughter sings me a specific little llama song she learned when she was little. Isn't that the cutest!? I am one happy boy and love to be outside and takes naps in the sun. This warmer weather is the best! Playing in leaf piles is fun and playing chase with the other dog is a lot of fun, too! I like to sleep in my dog bed or be wrapped in a blanket. You can wrap me up like a little burrito and I will fall asleep in your arms. I do well sleeping in the human bed or kennel if needed and I am pretty quiet. I really only occasionally bark at some noises or sometimes when I'm left alone. My potty training is coming along and I have started to scratch the door when I need to go outside. We are also working on leash training and it's also coming along. Our focus is me meeting people and getting comfortable being picked up and approached. It gets better every day! That's because I am a brave little man. Once you meet me, you will fall in love! I am a cutie pants who is ready to blossom into the dog I am meant to be. Do you want to help me blossom?! My name is Gilly and I'm 3 years old! I'm crate trained, potty trained and leash trained. I LOVE to go for long walks and play at the dog park. I love, love, love to run. So, if you're a runner, I might be the perfect dog for you! I love being around people, especially older kids who will run around with me. I have been told that I'm a total lover! I like other dogs if they are close to my size and I love to play with toys, too. I'm happy to take all the stuffing out of the soft ones for you or shake them all around to show you all of my skills! I also love my human's bed! She lets me sleep with her at night and I couldn't be happier getting those snuggles. I will even sometimes put myself to bed because I love the bed so much! I'm working on manners and am learning all about this new life. Because I love so many things, I sometimes have trouble controlling my excitement. Like when I hear barking dogs on TV. Boy does that get me excited too! Where can I meet those dogs from the TV anyway? I'm a happy girl and like to be the life of the party. So, if you're looking for someone to exercise with, who is also very happy to snuggle with you, I'm your gal! Come and meet me. You'll be glad you did! I am a special pup looking for a special home. I am sweet and friendly and working on continued socialization. I am food motivated, so teaching me tricks and commands is a cinch! My foster mom is teaching me boundaries and appropriate reactions to certain circumstances, so I don't feel scared or defensive. I have tried to bite at hands and can be reactive when someone is in my personal space. I am trying to figure it all out. I will need a very strong pack leader and someone who is knowledgeable and confident that they can manage my behaviors so that we can all feel at ease and be safe. I've been responding well to this in my foster home and hope for the same continued help and training in my furever home. I do my business outside and can walk successfully on leash. I still could use some training for when those furry rabbits and squirrels try to tempt me! Silly rabbits! I am also crate trained and will remain quiet while inside. I would do best in a very secure fenced yard for contained play and exercise or always out on a leash due to my high prey drive. I would be a great addition to the right home. I hope it's with you! ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. I am a love bug looking for a very special furever home! I would love to be the center of someone's world as an only dog, thought I don't mind other dogs. Really, I just ignore them because I am so focused on you! Since I have am nearly blind, it's best if you don't have any dogs much larger than me or kiddos around me. Because of my blindness, I get scared and sometimes am reactive around things that move fast or are unfamiliar. I am looking for a very patient owner who is open to learning how to interact with me so I don't get scared! I have befriended a nightlight in my foster home and am drawn to it like it is a long lost friend. I love it dearly and it comforts me. It might be silly, but it makes the little vision I have wonderful. Even though my vision is limited, I can navigate through the house fine and learn my pathways. Just don't change the furniture on me, please! A home that is quiet with a routine would be perfect. I love to cuddle and snuggle and once I get in sync with my human, I am a little angel! My ideal match would be a patient person who is home a lot of the time and can devote a lot of time to snuggling with me. I love to lie on a lap and be stroked and talked to and will even reach out with a gentle paw if you stop petting me. Yes, it is as adorable as you imagine! Potty training is a work in progress for me and I tend to go to the bathroom more often than the average pup because I have kidney disease. I mostly use a potty pad, so if I need to go to the bathroom unexpectedly, I can use that. I eat a special diet from the vet and need to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and keep my kidneys in good condition. He is truly a little 6-pound ball of sweetness. Being timid and calm spirited, he sometimes builds up the courage to paw you for gentle attention if he feels he isn’t getting enough! Santana enjoys being in a low-key environment and one without small kiddos. He needs another dog friend to live with in his furever home and would like that friend to be smaller. At 6 pounds, a lot of things can be frightening! He continues to work on his confidence and other dog skills, including house breaking. He has been doing well on a routine and also hangs out in a pen when his foster mom is gone. This little guy has a voice on him and likes to bark during treat times or when strangers are around. He just liked to be heard! Like many small pups, Santana has a bad back patella. He does fine with it and doesn't need to go on walks. If he does go on a walk, a short walk is ideal. Sometimes he will even cut it short and lie down and wait to be picked up. He knows that he has a high chance of being carried or put in a sling if that happens. Santana thinks he is a little king, and he may just be! Once he walked by some Cheez-Its that his foster mom didn't let him have, and he decided to throw a toddler fit. This little pup is so silly! Once he loves his person, he truly is the sweetest boy. He has the happiest little tail and will cuddle right in next to you, if you are patient. Waiting for his love is very worth it. Santana will grow to become more confident with a little patience and a lot of love. He hopes that love comes from you! Life in a home is very exciting and I have done great at adjusting to it. I am a happy little dog but sometimes a little unsure of new things. I love it when my humans when they get home from work and also feeding time is the best! When we go outside, I like to roam the yard and look for little bird seeds and other teeny tiny morsels. I go to the bathroom outside and also can use potty pads; I do great with a routine and am hoping to get this house breaking thing down soon. You guessed it... I love myself a good meal! Again, I'll let out some beautiful barks to let you know! My favorite thing to do is to eat, chew on raw bones, and sleep! During meal time, I will wiggle my whole body. I am a champion wiggle butt. I have luxating patellas (pretty common for my breed/size) and there's nothing that needs to be done about them right now, except avoid long walks. I love going on little walks and never want to be left behind. I sleep in bed near my foster mom and will lie on the couch with her. I may not always enjoy being cradled in a set of arms, but I truly am thrilled to be in your presence and enjoy getting pets. It's so nice to be loved. I can be nervous around people and do best when folks approach me slowly . I would LOVE (and require) another dog companion to keep me company. They can continue to teach me how to be brave. And I will teach them how to wiggle. I live with some pups and a kitty right now and enjoy being their little shadow! I am happy and affectionate and simply want to be able to share everything with my friends and new family to-be! It will take me some time to trust in a new home, possibly several months, but I promise, my love for you is absolutely worth the wait. DOB: 2/20/17 Requires another dog in home: No Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes, with the proper introduction and pack leader Okay with cats: Yes Okay with children under 12 years old: Yes, but parents must understand she might get overly excited and knock kids down or jump up until she gets proper training. Requires a fenced yard: No Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area Hi! My name is Vela. I am an energetic, spunky and silly pup. My curiosity guides to me all sorts of explorations and often my silly antics makes everyone laugh. I adore humans; I LOVE to snuggle and am very loyal. I am even more loyal if you give me a banana or cheese. Yum! Bones are also yummy and I could chew on them all day. When I am not searching for morsels of food or snuggling with my hoomans, I love playing outside. Outside is my favorite! Oh, and did I mention how smart I am yet!? well, I am so, so smart. Sometimes I am so smart that I tend to try to be the pack leader if someone else doesn't volunteer. Because of this, I will need an adopter who can be a strong pack leader. This helps me a lot! I look to my handler for guidance and cues, since I'm a bit nervous in new environments. The more calm and confident my handler is, the better I do! I have proven to well in dog friendly businesses and with strangers when my calm hooman companion is by my side. I can be cautious around men, but once I know I am safe and they are friendly, I become attached and show excitement when I see them! I learned how to sit on command in less than one day and I also know have practiced all the down, stay, kennel, wait, and leave it commands! I'm trying to perfect my walking skills and do well with my heel commands. I have some reactivity on a leash when I see other dogs, so we are working on this. It may seem kind of silly, since I actually do pretty great with other dogs. Playing with them a lot of fun, especially tug-of-war. If there are toys out, it's best to supervise us though. I can be particular about my fur friends, so I'm looking for the right fit in a fur sibling if you already have one in your home. If you have any cats, don't worry, I don't really know what they are and leave them be. Do YOU know what they are? I am somewhat of a jumping bean right now. I like to jump on people I really like. Oops, I guess I'm not supposed to do that. Have you ever just been so excited and happy when you see your favorite hoomans, that your heart explodes? Then your body tries to explode?! That's how I feel. I've been working hard on keeping my chill and food motivation helps a lot. Though I have my energetic side, I also have my couch potato side. I like to sit on the couch with my resident dog friends and also sleep in the bed with everyone. I ride well in the car, though those swooshing buses and trucks are frightening and I shake when I see them. I heard some dogs are the same, and even some people that get nervous when driving by big trucks! Maybe we should all just snuggle up and play with toys instead! I may seem like a little bit of work, but I improve daily and my human friends are fond of me. Which means I know you will be, too! I can't wait to meet my new family and have a lifetime of fun and memories with them! P.S. Can you please invest in Nylabones or antlers? I am a power chewer and love them! #sorrynotsorry ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. DOB: 9/16/11 Requires another dog in home: No Okay with dogs of all sizes: No, best as an only dog Requires a fenced yard: No Okay with children under 12 years old: No I am Mr. Moby and I am 108 pounds of amazing!!! At 6 years old, I am ready for a new start and to find my furever home. First, you should know that I love my people! I love them so much that I have been known to show my love through trying to protect them from strangers. I need a strong pack leader to show me that I don't need to be the protector of the pack and can sit back and let you do all the work. I'm good with children, but I try to protect "my kids" around new people and children. Because of this, I would do best in a home with no children at this time. I am already potty trained and crate trained. I also walk well on a leash. They have already taught me the "sit," "down," "shake," and "come" commands. ROCK STAR! Playing outside is a lot of fun and it's so amazing to feel the fresh air on my skin. I recently discovered that I love to play fetch with a tennis ball! We could do that together! I would do best as an only dog as I like grew up in a commercial breeding facility and always had to compete for attention; now it's my turn to get all the love! I also would prefer a house with no kitties as they seem to be too fun to chase. I am a sweetie and I promise to make you so happy! We could go on adventures, exercise together, and spend our days filling them with love. If you can give me a good belly rub, we can be best friends forever! ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend.
