Description
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 425. RoccoChico is crate trained (sleeps there at night as well as eats),leashed trained (while in a harness), loves car rides and is completely potty trained. He's a sweet, smart boy, and already knows a few basic commands. He will come to his name, knows "sit", "lay" & "down". Chico is a "people" dog.. he's a bit cautious with new people, most likely from previous abuse, but once he gets to know you he's all about the cuddles and snuggles. He loves everybody.. little kids to seniors and everyone in between. While he prefers the company of people and all the snuggles they come with, he can also be very independent and loves to hunt frogs and bugs his foster family's back yard. RoccoChico will be a wonderful addition to any family. RoccoChico weighs 12.5 pounds and is a stray from Texas. One big thing you should know is that he is heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting him! After he undergoes treatment for his condition he will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because he needs treatment, he is available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. he will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so his foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after he enters rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. While he is undergoing treatment, he should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means he should relax in his crate or cuddle with you. Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
