Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $325.00. Things to know about Lucky Moon: Needs an active family committed to ongoing training. Needs a securely fenced yard. Requires a single-family, detached home. An active dog buddy preferred. Adopter(s) must be willing come to an in person meet and greet with Lucky Moon before making the decision to take him home. Lucky Moon is a dachshund/chihuahua mix. He is a little over a year old and weighs about 12 pounds. He came to Little Paws in October 2021 after being hit by a truck. His back leg was so badly fractured that the vet thought it was likely that the leg would have to be amputated. Thankfully, that did not turn out to be the case. Due to excellent veterinary care and to the dedicated volunteers at Little Paws, he has recovered completely. Lucky Moon is house trained and crate trained. He is still a puppy and has LOTS of energy. He loves playing with his squeaky toys and running after tennis balls. Lucky Moon needs an active family willing to make sure that he gets plenty of exercise. He would love a safe enclosed yard and a dog buddy to run off some of that puppy energy. Because of his lengthy recovery time in which he had to rest and could not go out to explore the world, Lucky Moon is a bit fearful of noises and unfamiliar things like strangers. Like many dachshunds, he loves to bark. A home with shared walls is not a good fit for him. Young pups like Lucky Moon need love, patience, structure, and training. He has completed a leash walking course. His new family must be willing to continue working with him on his manners and socialization so that Lucky Moon can grow up to be a good canine citizen that everyone loves to have around. If you are looking for an active pup who is a big softy at heart, Lucky Moon might just be the guy for you. He is currently living in Statesboro, GA with his foster mom Annie. For additional information, please contact Lucky Moon's foster mom, Annie, at anniegelbardaol. If dogs are adopted over state lines, there is a $45.00 fee for each dog for a health certificate as required by law. Transportation Help: If you see a furbaby that is a match for your family, don't let distance stand in your way of adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport or refer you to a paid transport. Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by state departments of agriculture that may include a short stay in quarantine. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue and some dogs going to New England states may be charged an additional $175.00 to cover costs of compliance.
