Posted Breed: Chow Chow / Shih Tzu (medium coat). Guss and Jaq were surrendered by their owners, who could not bring them to the apartment to which they were moving. Guss is an 8-year-old purebred chow, while Jaq is a 6-year-old purebred shih tzu. These two have lived together since Jaq was 8 weeks old. They were separated for about a week before they came to Shamrock, and when they saw one another again, they bounced and circled one another, tails wagging, mouths smiling, happy ears flopping. We promised them they wouldn't be separated again. Guss and Jaq are a ready-made dog family. Both are friendly, easygoing, quiet dogs. Guss, in typical chow fashion, is a little standoffish to start, but treats help him warm right up, and he'll happily follow you along. He's a strong boy and will need a little training in not pulling when on leash, but otherwise he's a lovely boy. Jaq is a bit more shy, taking a little while longer to warm up. But, like Guss, he comes along pretty quickly. Although we require that they be indoor dogs, they would do best in a home with a fenced yard. If you own your home, that's best, as sometimes rental situations change and people are told they can no longer have chows. We don't want that to happen. Guss and Jaq have been uprooted from the only home they've known, so we want their next home to be the one they stay in forever.
