We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area.  ALL ABOUT CHICO. BIO: Chico is 1and 1/2 years old. ALL ABOUT CHICO. Available for adoption. BIO: Chico has been in his foster home for 6 months and is doing great. Chico was very anxious around people at first but is now starting to relax. Chico will now climb on the couch and happily sit with people and other dogs. He will hop up on me and nuzzle and wiggle into my chest very rarely we are finally getting some happy belly rubs. He does not like constantly being touched, loves being with his person and being carried but will often growl and choose to be alone if petted too much. He needs patience. He is still learning to trust and love people, and will require a home that can understand that he needs his time to trust new people. Chico is good with other dogs, and doesn't bark. He is playful and loves toys and chasing balls, sometimes he may excitedly bark when playing. Chico is house trained, but doesn't like the cold. You have to put him outside when it is cold. If left alone he may whine a little, but is short lived. We have really grown to love little Chico. We have seen him grow from a scared growling neglected guy into a playful, happy, toy-hoarding, funny little buddy. His future home needs to understand that he has been mistreated in the past, and that Chico has trust issues with humans. He is a very nice dog, and is a great companion, but he needs a quiet stable home and someone the doesn't want to smother him with affection right away. He will be your best friend and love you, but new things make him nervous, and he will warn you that he is uncomfortable by growling. You need to listen to his cues and give him space when he needs it. It has been a long road with Mr.Chico, and I know someone out there will love him as much as we do.

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). We are looking for a home for Licorice that understands Chihuahuas or has previous experience with timid dogs.  She's a little sweetheart and wants the company of people but is still a little too scared to come to you, unless there's cheese. Then, no problem. She gets along with other small dogs very well.  Licorice is looking for a home that understands how to help a timid dog grow into the fun loving dog she was meant to be. Licorice has great potential and when she feels relaxed and safe she's very playful and cuddly.  Sudden movements, loud noises, children and men scare her the most, but she always comes to you if there's food involved. A quiet home is with a  fully fenced and secure yard. No gaps in the fence.  Licorice is peepad trained but her fearfulness has lead to some accidents in the house.  She does very well with other small dogs and loves to play with her foster friends. We are eagerly waiting for spring as she gets extremely excited when her harness and leash come out. She walks nicely on leash and is slightly more brave each time . Her ideal home is quiet with NO children and NO large dogs. She would do great with another small breed dog. Men will have to approach slowly and put extra effort into winning her over as she prefers to bond with women. A meet and greet with Licorice here in Edmonton is Mandatory.   Obedience Training - YES  Force  Free Dog Obedience Training Classes is required with a trainer from our list of approved trainers only.  Children - NO  Large Breed dogs - NO  Licorice has a lot to offer, but needs someone with patience who will work with her to get her to come out of her shell. Her tail often goes a mile a minute and she loves belly rubs on the bed. It's hard not to fall in love with her.  Licorice is fully vaccinated and vetted. Vetting Completed: Spayed, M icrochipped,  Dental cleaning preformed,  Rabies  vaccine,  DHPP Vaccine,  Dewormed with D rontal Plus Her Adoption Fee is $500.00 Please contact our rescue by email at Heartprintsdogrescue@gmail.com

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). HI my name is Ariel I am about 1-2 years old. I am a Chihuahua Mix girl. I am looking for a family who has another friendly small breed dog like me. I will not go to a home as an only dog. I do great with dogs that like to cuddle. I don't do well on my own I love having doggy friends and my people. Things that won't work for me: NO CATS NO LARGE BREED DOGS NO SMALL children under the age of 6. I like older respectful children of my space and won't pick me up all the time as I don't like that. Do you love walks in the warm weather? I do too. Do you like like being warm on the sofa/ couch and watching a TV show on a cold night? I do too! Do you have a fenced secure yard to play in? I love playing in the yard and having room to sniff around, and run around in. I am crate trained, house trained when the weather is nice outside. I am not sure about this white stuff on the ground so having occasional accidents inside. Pee pads out for me prevent accidents all over. Obedience Training is a must for me as I have no emergency recall. I will door dash or dig out of a yard if left alone. My rescue is looking for the right match for me and until they do I am happy with laying my head here. My adoption fee is: $500.00 The adoption fee helps my rescue pay for transport, vetting, and care for me. The fee goes to towards to save that next life once the bills are paid. You can contact my rescue via email at Heartprintsdogrescue@gmail.com
