Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel / Shih Tzu / Mixed. Please contact Jill (xianshihtzu@embarqmail.com) for more information about this pet. AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP AND/OR ADOPTION J J's adoption donation is $175 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworm and started on prevention. He is also on flea prevention. J J is a special boy. He is a 6 year old Cocker Spaniel - Shih Tzu mix and definitely looks very much like a Cocker Spaniel. He was an owner surrender with his mother, Pearl, who was adopted into her furever home last year. Both JJ and Pearl had not received a lot of vet care in the last couple years. The day after JJ came into rescue, he went into the hospital with pancreatitis and was also diagnosed with diabetes. He most likely had had this going on for quite awhile since there were a few days that were touch and go, but JJ pulled through and is doing very well in foster care! He was a bit chunky when he came into rescue, but he's lost a couple pounds and he's a very good boy for his daily insulin shots. JJ loves to be with his person and he's very well mannered. He will need a home that has a strong vet history, because he does require daily insulin shots, and he will need to stay on a low fat diet since he did have pancreatitis. His condition is very manageable, and his medication is not that expensive. His insulin costs about $20-25 a month. JJ loves to go for car rides and walks well on a leash. JJ is also blind from the diabetes but will follow you anywhere as he sees and loves with his heart. He loves to be with his person, so if you're looking for a sweet companion, JJ is your boy! PLEASE NOTE: If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website, not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances. If you go to the individual webpage of our dogs, you will be able to get more information each dog. Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Our Adoption Process The adoption process has several steps involved. Please review prior to submitting an application. Our adoption process is detailed here: http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs. Special Requirements Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets. The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home. No application is approved prior to the home visit being done. At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs. Out of State Adoptions We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer. We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Shih Tzu

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu (long coat). Adoption Fee: 200. Viktor's adoption donation is $200 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, bordetella and canine influenza vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention, as well as flea prevention. Viktor has also had a dental cleaning with extractions. Viktor will require a home with a strong veterinary reference. Viktor came into rescue from a local kill shelter on Christmas Eve where he pulled at the last minute from the euthanasia list. Viktor had obviously had a rough life and been neglected. He was severely matted and covered in urine stains. Many of his teeth were worn to the gum line and ultimately during his dental, all of his teeth had to be removed. Viktor wants you to know that that is not a problem and he loves meal times because he loves to eat and is very food motivated. Viktor gets along with other dogs but he doesn't like them in his face. He loves to explore the yard and check out any new smells. Viktor does have a heart murmur (which is fairly common mature, small breed dogs) and he does take an inexpensive medication twice a day. He is a very good boy for his "special treat" and comes running when he knows it's time. Viktor enjoys hogging the stuffies from the other dogs and running off with them. If you would like for Viktor to be your buddy, he is accepting applications!! She has such a kind and gentle spirit and loves to be with her person and her buddy Rascal. Prissie and Rascal spent most of their life in a single home until their owner passed away this year. After some transitions, they found their way (together) to OFP. Prissie is very attached to Rascal and they will need to be adopted together . Together, they are a dynamic and loving duo. She has excellent housetraining manners and enjoys spending time outside. She loves to greet you when you come home and will run around to show her excitement in hopes you play with her. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention, as well as flea prevention. He has also had a dental cleaning. Sherman requires an experienced home with a securely fenced yard. Sherman, or Scruffy, as we call him, is a 6 year old, 14 pound Poodle/Bichon mix boy who came into rescue from a local kill shelter. He was on the euthanasia list because he was absolutely terrified at the shelter and starting to shut down. Since he was rescued, he has settled in quite nicely at his foster home, but a quieter home is definitely best. He loves to play with other dogs, but he needs time and patience to settle. Scruffy loves to play with his German Shepherd foster brother, so he is comfortable with gentle giant furbuddies. He has that exciting Bichon energy, so a home with a securely fenced yard and a companion buddy will be required to keep Scruffy happy! Scruffy is crate trained and does well on housetraining if kept on a schedule. Scruffy would love to have a family of his very own to love and play with! Aggie is an approx 5-6 year old, 15 pound Maltese/Shih girl who requires a patient, quiet home with an understanding, experienced owner. Aggie is timid around new people and things. She survived on her own wits for an extended period of time. When our vet examined her, she discovered that she was missing the ends of several toes on one of her feet and our vet believes that it was due to frostbite from being outside during the winter. Sex: Female Female
      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Please contact Hope (hopebrinkmeier@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Mandy's adoption donation is $400 and she is being fostered in Central Ohio. She has been neutered, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention, as well as flea prevention. Mandy is a 3 month old Chihuahua mix. Mandy is big on cuddling, belly rubs and ear massages. She loves a good cuddle after a hard play. Mandy also has the cutest little under bite you have ever laid your eyes on.
