Posted Breed: Pointer / Dalmatian / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $125. Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team I'm the perfect combination of fun and naps! Date into Rescue: 2/8/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Pulled from a NC shelter, Oreo was surrendered by her owner when they moved. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Oreo came to us with heartworms, but tested negative 12/3/2017! No more heartworms! Weight: 79 lb Height: Estimated 17 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $125 Fence needed? Not needed, but Oreo would love one What kind of home would be best for me? Oreo would love somewhere to romp and play and run and then cuddle time with her person! She is good with dogs around her size and would love a dog friend to play and spend time with. She does not need to go to a home with other small animals; she seems to think they are toys. What is my personality like? Oreo came to the rescue as a bonded pair with her little poodle friend, Bailey. They were not bonded and Oreo really found herself when they were separated, so we decided to adopt them separately. Oreo loves to romp and play. She is always running and playing in our big field with her other big dog friends. After a full day of play she loves to lie in the sun or in the cool grass. Oreo has a pretty moderate energy level. She is pretty independent for the most part, but she does enjoy being affectionate with people. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. Other tips and tidbits: House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Date into Rescue: 5/2/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release/health of the owner Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none needed Weight: About 45 lbs Height: est 22" at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? I need a home with no other smaller animals, and where I can be loved of course! What is my personality like? He is a whole lot of dog. His owner did tell us that he has had problems with other dogs, especially little dogs, so we have not tested him with others nose to nose. This can be done on request but Charlie is so people focused we'd really like to find him a home as an only dog. Note that dogs can walk by his crate all day or he can be with other dogs with a fence between them with no issues at all. Dogs who want to be only dogs are rare. He is an ideal candidate for someone who only wants one dog. Charlie is physically very strong! He pulls on his leash and for some reason has an obsession with the shower in the kennel because if given the chance he runs straight for it. We don't have a pool but I'd love to see this water loving dog doing some hiking where he can splash in the creeks. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. Other tips and tidbits: Charlie doesn't know basic commands but he is learning he has to sit for his treats. I think he will be a fast learner. He would need a fence. He is very friendly with the adults in our kennel but has not been tested with kids. On our walk he kept his nose to the ground and was full speed ahead! He didn't bark when meeting new people and was perfectly okay with them approaching him to love on him. UPDATE 1/30/2018: Charlie truly lives to please people. His whole world begins and ends with humans. As soon as you walk into the kennel and make eye contact with him his tail immediatly starts to wag and he does his happy dance. This boy is not hard to win over what so ever, and he will surly be after your own heart! Since being here we have learned that Charlie DOES NOT like other dogs. He would prefer to be the only pet. He has learned to sit, to go in his crate, give shakes, and to go straight to the door when being let out. Charlie is easily trainable due to him just wanting to please you. Just like any other young lab he loves tennis balls and really really loves being let out into the bigger field we have, he loves to get his exercise! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. None noted Weight: 57 lb Height: Estimated 10 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? A fence would be ideal until fully leash trained What kind of home would be best for me? Hank needs a kind, low-key and patient home that does not mind working with him. Hank came to the rescue from a very under-socialized environment. He has made lots of progress, but is still learning what being someone's pet really is. He is good with other dogs, but does not care for cats. What is my personality like? Hank's story is more like a song. His past is rocky which is why he is so unsure of new people, but boy does this dog have potential. Hank has been with us for 6 months and it's so hard to believe that the terrified dog hiding in the back of his pen is now this bright vibrant lap dog. We have put real dedication into this guy and it surely shows. This insecure, troubled soul has turn into a glorified toy hoarder and a huge baby that loves to give kisses. All he really wants is just to be a families dog. Not a yard ornament. Not something to look at when you are bored. But a real part of your family. Mind you, Hank is still apprehensive of new people, but he has shown us if you are willing to try with him then he will most definitely try with you. Winning him over just takes a little time and his favorite snack of course - cheese puffs! He still needs leash work; we think he will learn successfully with time and a front walking harness. How do I act when I first meet new people? Weary of new people. It takes a little time but then he is basically a lap dog. Other tips and tidbits: Hank can be VERY affectionate once he's comfortable with someone and he really loves cheese puffs! Fannie was found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 44 lbs Height: 19-20 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $299 Fence needed? Fannie would love a fenced in area to explore in.. Or just a lot of walks. What kind of home would be best for me? Fannie is looking for her retirement home somewhere - maybe on a farm - where she can bask in the sunshine and go on lots of nature walks. Owner Experience 2: First time dog owner. Had dogs or cats as a child. What is my personality like? Fannie is an older lady but not too old! She still loves to wander through the woods and play a little with dogs of her size. When she is outside there is nothing stopping her nose from working. Fannie could sniff and roam all day long and come home to soak her paws and take it easy. That would be the perfect life for Fannie! She doesn't ask for much! Fannie gets carried away while on a leash so a harness would be best to walk her with since she likes to pull. Treats? Ooooh she loves them. Fannie's story is short and sweet... she was found as a stray in South Carolina and taken to a local shelter.. but now she is at the farm! Fannie doesn't get to roam as much as she'd like to though.. and she would also love to be reminded on how to be a pet again. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly.. but it is hard to get Fannie's attention with her nose to the ground. Other Tips and Tidbits: House trained? Date into Rescue: 6/3/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Pulled from a rural shelter, was originally found as a stray. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Hugo was tested for heart worms when he arrived at the farm in June of 2017. He was treated for heart worms with the slow kill method, and tested negative in April of 2018. No more heart worms! Weight: Estimated 13 lb Height: Estimated 11 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? A fence would be great until I learn to leash walk. What kind of home would be best for me? Hugo needs a home with sweet people willing to love on him once he warms up to them. Hugo would make a great dog for a person that enjoys independent dogs that knows how to keep themselves happy. What is my personality like? Hugo was found in another state and brought to one of their rural shelters as a stray. His past is unsure but he would love to find a family to help him forget all of the bad stuff. Hugo is head shy. If you come at him too fast with your hand he will tuck down because it startles him. He is very curious and love to explore my surroundings. When Hugo first came to CPR, he was very timid and needed a lot of work. Since Hugo has been with us, we have noticed he is a very head strong type of guy. He does not look for anyone else's opinion and has his own little mind. Hugo is a very loving and hyper boy. He loves to play, but can sometimes be too much for other dogs, which Hugo does not like. This means that Hugo needs to be in a home with a dog that is alright with his energy and goofy personality, or a home with no dogs. Hugo has recently been tested with two older large dogs and did well. He does not like an in your face kind of dog. He absolutely loves all people and will take a belly rub from anyone. Hugo will become a relaxed and lazy boy once he has a little bit of playing time out of his system. The longer Hugo is here, the more of a love bug/ attention hog he becomes! All he needed was a little time to settle down from the drastic change in his life. He hits the floor every morning full of life and ready to be outside in the sun. Hugo loves to play with humans, He likes to pounce at you trying to initiate a game of tag. This boy will be after your own heart. Note that he only gets along with certain dogs. He is working hard turning his charm up a notch to get noticed, he wants a home! How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly but shy. None noted Weight: 50 lbs Height: about 24 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes, she is very energetic! What kind of home would be best for me? Mia would be great in a number of settings as long as her people are energetic and do a lot. She is a lot of girl. She is good with other dogs and didn't react to our cats here, so should be good with a cat in the home. She is not a fan of children 10 years or younger; her forever home must have older, mature kids or adults only. Mia needs an active home that understands that big girls need play time and running time. She'd be a great running companion. What is my personality like? Mia is a very beautiful girl. She is sweet and, if give the chance, will love on you all day. She's a big lap baby. Mia enjoys playing fetch and learning new things. She's a quick learner and knows basic commands such as sit, stay, and lay down. Mia learns quickly! She loves belly rubs once she throws herself into your lap. Mia walks well on a leash and would make a great hiking buddy. She also rides well in a car. Mia loves to run and play so she needs a home that can keep up with this girl. How do I act when I first meet new people? Other tips and tidbits: She has lots of energy and does well with the big dogs in the field. She doesn't pay any mind to the little dogs. House trained? Yes - Diabetes Insipidus. What does that mean? Buckles drinks water - all day - and urinates frequently as a result. This is a rare form of diabetes that is caused by a deficiency of the pituitary hormone (vasopressin) which regulates kidney function. This disorder is very uncommon and is not curable. To put it simply - her kidneys can accept water but can't process it correctly, so water passes through her body very quickly. Thus, she urinates frequently and must have 24/7 access to water. Buckles is currently on a hormone-replacement medication (given through eye drops twice per day). It does help some. We are working with her to find out what is the best dosage for her. The medication is about $120 per month. Weight: 13 lb Height: est 13 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $I'm special! Fence needed? Yes - Buckles is very active and loves to run. What kind of home would be best for me? Buckles does have a "house training" issue only because of her condition. For someone who is retired and is home all the time, her house training isn't much of a problem. She must be taken outside every two hours, and her house training is basically controlled. She would love a house with a doggie door. She goes to the door in her foster home if she needs to go out. She wears diapers if her foster mom is going out more than 2 hours. Buckles cannot be deprived of water as it can be fatal to her. What is my personality like? All that sounds frightening and it is but there is more to Buckles than bad plumbing. Buckles is spunky, friendly and loving. She is energetic and must have a fenced in yard to run in. She gets along with other dogs and cats and would be a great playmate to another dog her size or larger. Buckles is eager to please and bonds quickly. How do I act when I first meet new people? Happy, friendly and gregarious. Other Tips and Tidbits: Despite her condition, Buckles is a very happy girl and very adaptable! Her foster mom says she's the easiest dog she's ever had. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Date into Rescue: 2/28/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Released by previous owner because they were relocating to a new place Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted Weight: 45.4 lb Height: About 24 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed?& A fence would be helpful until she is acclimated to her new home. What kind of home would be best for me? Brielle needs a quiet, more reserved home with owners that have a soft spot for timid dogs. Brielle is reportedly a 3rd generation shepadoodle - german shepherd and standard poodle. But since she looks so much more like a labrador retriever, we've put that breed instead. Brielle reportedly has some standard poodle in her but we don't see much and she does shed. She is good with other dogs and fine with cats. What is my personality like? Brielle came to the farm as an owner release with a few others. From day one she has always been timid and scared while her other siblings have come out of their shells and found homes. Brielle is the type of dog that will need plenty of one on one time to get her where she needs to be in life. Everyone at the farm has worked with her and she will now take treats out of our hands, but she could really use help in a permanent home to help her grow. She has great potential with a sweet and gentle nature and just needs a special person to help her along her way. How do I act when I first meet new people? Cautious but warms up Other Tips and Tidbits: Update 10/05/17- Brielle has come a long way since she first came to us. She is sweet and will allow some love from people she is with everyday. She wants to trust people and find a forever home, but she just needs time and patience. She does perfectly fine with all dogs, and they help her relax and learn that we people are not so bad. Brielle needs an understanding human that has a soft spot for dogs with troubled souls. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Date into Rescue: 6/16/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release due to the declining health of the owner. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 18 lb Height: About 13 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No - Sissy walks well on leash What kind of home would be best for me? Beautify Sissy was once the apple of her dad's eye but eye surgery robbed him of his sight and he could not look out for Sissy. During this time, they lived at an assisted living facility, Sissy got very protective and even though Dad told people not to come to his apartment when he was gone for Sissy didn't like that, a housekeeper did. Sissy took offense to the intrustion and chased the housekeeper out, nipping her in the process. Sadly, housekeeper's do not take kindly to that and reported the incident. Sissy's choices were looking very slim when CPR stepped in. Sissy's best home would be one that has a separate house and that understands that, as long as she knows she's not in charge, she has no reason to resource guard. Sissy also gets along ok with other dogs, but would also be very happy being an only dog. What is my personality like? Sissy has lived a fairly quiet life but because they lived in assisted living, she met a lot of people and is actually fairly social. She doesn't do well with lots of chaos and I think longs for the quiet days sitting on her dad's lap, but she does need a lot more exericse than she was getting and she is thriving living on the farm and walking with her foster pack. How do I act when I first meet new people? A bit stand offish but she is friendly enough. Other tips and tidbits: Sissy is one of the few dogs we do not crate train. She is pretty well house trained although she'll need reminders. She loves to sleep cuddled up next to her foster dad at night. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.
