  • Mutt Dog For Adoption in Atlanta, GA, USA

    Zelda

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dutch Shepherd (medium coat). Meet Zelda! Zelda is another first for us! We have never had a shepherd in our program, and we were thrilled when we met this girl, named strangely enough Tik Tok, at the shelter! We took her outside, we tested her, and we fell madly in love!! This girl is a true rock star!! Zelda is a roughly 2 year old Dutch Shepherd. She is beautiful and elegant, but she dearly loves to play! She gets playful with her mouth a little bit, true to a herding breed. She is within breed standards for size of a Dutch Shepherd, weighing in at just under 60 pounds, with a few pounds to put on to be at her ideal weight. She is highly affectionate, and thinks that she is a lap dog. We suspect that she didn't get a whole lot of affection in her earlier life, so she is definitely trying to make up for lost time now! If you are a shepherd lover - and probably even if you haven't been before - you will adore this girl!

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Yoshi - from the v ideo game Super Mario!! Yoshi's shelter name was D.Va, which interestingly enough, is actually a video game character as well!! Yoshi is a chunky brawny pittie puppy - all of about 5 months old! She's all kinds of cuteness in that chunky body, with a little bit of demodectic mange thrown in for good measure! This condition is actually caused by mites, and can be transferred to a pup from its mom, which is probably how this adorable girl got it. It's not contagious - either to people or other dogs. Left untreated, it causes a lot of skin irritation and scabbing, and inflammation of the dermal tissue, and can be very painful in an extreme case. But this girl has already been treated, and is on the road to recovery! She's going to be a pretty good-sized girl - probably 60 to 65 pounds when she finishes growing up. Our friend Ellie, the rescue coordinator at the shelter, just had to take this girl home for a few days - she says it's so she could get a good start on healing up from her condition, but we think it's just 'cuz she needed some puppy love! Yoshi has plenty of that - and doesn't mind sharing!!

    Breed: Bloodhound-Mastiff Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Mastiff / Bloodhound / Mixed (short coat). Meet Mariah, formerly Sasha! The enchanting girl was named because her singing voice - we will explain the origin of that later in this post - can hit Mariah like high notes! And this girl, like her namesake, assumes that everyone loves her! With her namesake, there might be the tiniest amount of ego in that assumption, but with our Mariah, we 're pretty sure it's because she's right - she's awfully lovable - there isn't a bit of diva in this girl! This girl came into the shelter as a cruelty case seizure, after being tethered in a backyard of a house that had been abandoned. She was very underweight when she came to the shelter, but gained a little weight while she was there. Now that she's out of the shelter, she is continuing to put on weight, and will soon be her healthiest weight, and oh-so-beautiful again! We believe Mariah to be a mastiff / bloodhound mix. There are certain ways that she turns her head where you can clearly see the bloodhound profile, and when she opens her mouth to "sing", you can hear the hound in her singing voice! She is so true to the mastiff in her breed, in that she loves everyone she meets, and is an exceptionally easy going girl. Mariah is between 3 & 4 years old, and currently weighing in around 75 pounds. Her ideal weight is probably between 85 and 90 pounds, and she will be there soon! If your favorite kind of dog is an easy-going laid back big dog, then this girl is right up your alley! She would love to be a part of a family, or a companion to a single person. She would like a dog to be buds with, or to be the center of someone's world. There isn't much this girl wouldn't like, as long as she is loved forever!!

    Breed: Beagle-Pointer Mix

Posted Breed: Beagle / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Meet Crash, named for the game Crash Bandicoot! Crash's shelter name was Lil Tay - which is a bit confusing, since Lil Tay, the rapper, is a girl!, and our Crash is a boy!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Crash is a young boy - only about 1 year old, and a delightful combination of tricolor and ticking - we are thinking beagle, pointer and a little terrier thrown i n just for fun!! He's 100% cute, and as Lisa likes to say, he is all American Shelter dog! Crash is a true medium sized boy - only about 45 pounds, and will probably stick right at 50. Crash had been at the shelter before - only about 2 months earlier. His microchip identified his owner, but they did not respond when they were contacted that he was there. He started getting picked on in the overly full runs, and that is never a good thing when there are 7 - 9 dogs in a run, because that can lead to big fights. It became such a common occurrence that he became in danger of losing his life. His owner was contacted again, and was told that he would not make it out of the shelter if they did not reclaim him. They did, and then just a few weeks later, he was picked up again as a stray. Lucklly, this time we met him, and decided that although the shelter was not a good fit for him, Canine CellMates was! He came into the jail rather tentaively, unsure what this new place held for him. His handler was ready, though, and took it nice and slow, and it was only a few days before this cute boy decided that this place was okay with him!! We knew that this boy didn't deserve to die at the shelter - we are sure that you would feel that way too! If you want a survivor, that will thank you every single day for the rest of his life, this tri-colored speckled cutie may just be the boy for you! He'll be waiting for you.

    Breed: Ibizan Hound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Ibizan Hound / Maltese (short coat). In the Canine CellMates program, we name each cycle of dogs based on a theme, and the theme for Cycle 22 is CANDY!! Candy is pretty popular starting with Halloween all the way through the holiday season, so we thought this was a fitting theme for this sweet bunch of pups! Our first dog of Cycle 22 was named Kittie at the shelter, and is now Taffy. Taffy came to mind because it is soft and sweet, just like this girl!! Taffy is an Ibizan Hound - she may not be all Ibizan, but she certainly looks like it! For those of you not familiar with this breed, they possess a deerlike elegance, are extremely graceful and and can run like lightning! Ibizans are sighthounds, and were bred for hunting. They are bouncy puppies, like most puppies, but once they are fully adult, they are quiet and gentle dogs who prefer couches. This beautiful leggy girl is a pup - she is 11 months old. At around 40 pounds, she should finish out at less than 50. She was picked up as a stray with a limp, but the limp is long gone, and she is nothing but smiles now!! Taffy is available for adoption now. .caninecellmates

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Meet Jagger! His musician themed name is inspired by, of course, Mick Jagger, and the handlers named him that because "he has moves like Jagger"!! This boy is our youngster of the cycle, at less than a year old. He has a sad story in his already short life. Here are the words of an amazing Fulton County Animal Services volunteer about this boy: "He was adopted, returned to FCAS. Then, adopted and dumped at Cherokee County shelter. Usually, when a dog is adopted and returned, they have to have time to adjust. The more it happens, the more adjustments that need to be made. Sometimes, there is time, most times, there is not. A little piece of them gets left behind each time". This boy, who was retrieved from Cherokee County Animal Shelter (thank you, Lifeline!), came back sad and missing most of his hair. When we met him, we fell in love with the spirit we could see behind those desperately sad eyes, and we thrilled when he passed our assessment! When we moved him in to the jail, he was a bouncing bag of anxiety - no big surprise. He's been through more transitions in his young life than many dogs go through in a lifetime. Our most seasoned handler quickly said "Don't worry - I've got him" and he did. Jagger quickly stopped vocalizing in anxious desperation, and settled in. He's learning, he's playing with all the other dogs, and he's growing his hair back! We think that was a combination of an allergy and enormous stress, but that's behind him now! Jagger is almost done growing, and around 72 pounds. We think he will finish out at 75 pounds. This sweet boy has now graduated and is ready for a forever or foster home immediately!
