Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). CALLING ALL SPECIAL-NEEDS-CAPABLE MOMMIES AND DADDIES… Meet our Grigio. He is a small, black Chihuahua mix. This little guy is 10 years old, and requires a very special family to meet his needs. He came to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter from Puerto Rico on October 13. He is a sweet and friendly boy who is quite spry for his age. Grigio is very easy to walk and like most Chi’s, he enjoys walking in good weather. A daily jaunt in the warmth of the great outdoors will keep this little rugrat quite content. Of course, don’t forget the coat when it is chilly outside! Grigio's adoption fee will be waived for qualified adopters, as this munchkin will need to be on meds for the remainder of his life (pulmonary hypertension which affects his lungs and heart). The great news is that he has captured the heart of the Cardiologist, so Grigio will have FREE cardiologist appointments for the rest of his life. This cutie just cannot catch a break! We know this boy has needs, and on top of that he is a senior. That being said, seniors deserve love too. This handsome little fella wants nothing more than to give love and receive it. He will explore with you and chill when you just want to watch a good movie. If you rescue him, he will rescue you with the size of his heart, and the warmth of his disposition. He is a good boy who loves attention. We cannot say enough great things about him. Grigio is micro-chipped and up to date on his shots. Please come down to the shelter and ask to spend some time with this handsome boy. He will melt your heart.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Calling all teddy bear lovers! Our Coco is a gentle, sweet but strong, American Pitbull mix. He is 3 years old and came to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter on December 30 from another shelter who had run out of room. He is a large baby, which just means there is more of him to love. His coat is white and brown and his soulful eyes will melt your heart. He seems to always be happy and rarely barks…an energetic boy with a wonderful disposition. He can also chill with the best of them! Coco lives for his walks. He is a bit strong, and better with a harness than a leash. He is doing his best to learn leash manners and making progress every day. Imagine if you were cooped up in a kennel all day…you would live for your outside time too! He loves to explore, and just gets so excited to see everything in the great outdoors. We feel that Coco will do best with a family who has large dog experience, and older children who respect animals. He gets along with other dogs, but a meet and greet will be necessary if there are other furry animals in your home. No cats for CoCo! Coco bonds quickly to anyone who shows him love and respect. He is a pleaser, and he will make you smile from ear to ear. He is gentle when taking treats, and loves to lean into you and feel your warmth. He is not particularly a toy guy, but that could change outside of the shelter environment. Coco loves the volunteers, but he is ready for his forever home. Our Coco is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his shots. This special boy is a true rescue in every sense of the word. Come down and meet our darling love bug.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hey there…my name is Duke, aka The Dukester, aka Dukey Duke! Yup, I go by all of them and more. I am a happy go lucky guy despite my sad story. First things first, I am a 3 year old Terrier/American Pitbull mix. My fabulous coat is blue/Tan brindle. I am going to try to keep this positive, because that is just the kind of boy that I am. I have been here at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter since February 13. Unfortunately, I was surrendered by my owners because their landlord no longer wanted me in the home (personally, I think we all should have just moved!) I gave a tearful goodbye to the only family that I have ever known, and now I just need to move on. Don’t cry for me Argentina, cause this boy is going to make his mark in the world! Let me just say that if you happen to be lucky enough to take me home, I will give you more love than you will ever need. I lived with small children and a Chihuahua, so you KNOW I am friendly, cause those little critters can be VERY trying at times. I am a big guy at 80 pounds…all muscle. Yes, I am strong, and I pull on my leash, so until I have had some proper leash training, maybe only adults should take me for a walk. If there are older children in the house, I am sure that they could handle me too. I just get so curious outside and want to see everything! If you have other dogs in the home, a meet and greet will be necessary to make sure we all get along. The great news is that I am potty trained, and I even know a few basic commands. As you probably know, going from a home where I had full range, to this kennel is very hard for me. I am a good boy, and I deserve a loving home and family. I am neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on my shots. The volunteers here are wonderful and I really do not know how I will ever repay their kindness.
