He was very thin, covered in fleas, and missing quite a bit of hair. The shelter staff started him on the road to recovery. Admiral now weighs a healthy 8 pounds and has grown back most of his hair. He has a hole through one of his ears and raggedy edges on both, but once his ear hair grows back you would never know. His teeth were in bad shape and he lost most of them, but he has no problem eating dry food that has been softened in a little water. He has dry eyes and needs eye drops daily. Simple saline drops do the trick. Admiral is a nice little dog. He loves people! He is a little timid at first and will crouch low when approached by new people. Once he realizes you are okay, he will roll over for a belly rub and follow you around the house. He is leash trained, housebroken, and crate trained. If left for extended periods he will use a pee pad. He will need some supervision at first, but once he learns the rules, he is fine. Admiral gets along well with other small dogs. He would probably be okay with cats too and we can introduce him to some if needed. Because of his small size, he would do best with older children who understand that they must be gentle with him. At night he sleeps peacefully in his crate, but he would be very happy to sleep with his people too. If your home needs a little Admiral, fill out an application today! =============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate. We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI, NH, ME or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Foster mom thinks another maybe 2 pounds and I'll be at my ideal weight. I am very laid back, like to go for walks and get along with male and female dogs. And, I'm fine when you are gone, what more can you ask for? Adopt me, please... l'd like to enjoy the warm summer nights at your home! BIO: Hi there, I'm Hoagie! They told me that I should tell you a little about myself first. Well, I came from Southern AL and I was taken from a hoarding situation. There were lots of us wiener dogs, some of us standards but most of us overweight. They told me first thing when I came up here that I have to lose 3-4 pounds so here I am on a diet, doesn’t sound like much but we’ll see. I had a bad eye so the vet and rescue thought it was best to remove it to not cause me any more discomfort. And now that I’m feeling better, they were right! I feel so much better and I’m really happy to have it gone. I don’t miss it at all. I am doing well on the doggie door but you’ll have to keep me on a schedule until I figure out your schedule and then I’ll be fine. I am crate trained so if you have to go away or work I’m fine chillin in a crate until you get home. I am pretty laid back if I do say so myself and I like all people, just takes me a minute to warm up. I’m fine with other dogs male and female but don’t know about cats. Could you please give me a lasting forever home? I just want a home to call my own, I will be forever grateful! ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. When he came to my house to be my foster dog, he weighed in at 34 pounds! He is on a weight loss program eating Science Diet Metabolic and regular exercise. Eddie didn’t want to walk much more than 1/8th of a mile when he first came, and now he walks 1 1/2 miles most every day and totally enjoys his walks trotting along at a good pace. He is down to 28 pounds and his waist is showing!!!! Yippie!! The quality of Eddie’s life has improved SO MUCH since he has lost weight. He’s a happy dog now that he’s not so overweight and wags his tail all the time to prove it. It will be extremely important for his adopter to exercise him on a regular basis and give him eye drops 2 to 3 times a day for the rest of his life. Eddie has chronic dry eye, but is just fine as long as he gets his eye drops. I took him to an animal eye specialist who examined his eyes and said his eyes are great other than the dry eyes. Eddie is a very easy going dog. He doesn’t bark at other dogs when we are out walking, and he walks nicely on a leash. He has not had even one accident in my house so he’s definitely potty trained. He goes right to bed at night when you tell him, “let’s go to bed.” He sleeps on his bed by our big bed and sleeps quietly all night. If you would like him to sleep in your bed with you, he would gladly do so. Eddie even lets me brush his teeth without a fuss. He had a dental after coming into rescue and had just a few teeth pulled, but the rest are healthy and nice and clean. Please don’t let Eddie’s age and dry eyes keep you from inquiring about him. He has so many great qualities and so much love to give. He gets along great with everybody, dogs and people. He loves attention and just wants to be loved and to find his forever home. You really don’t want to pass him up because if you do, you are truly the one missing out! =============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. I ran into a little trouble with getting lost from my people and some pesky heart worms, but that’s all taken care of now. I was saved by AADR and I’m good to go! I’m still a little chunky, but I’ve lost almost 2 pounds and that should continue as I increase my activity. I’m a joy to have around, or so I’m told! I have that winning Standard Dachshund personality! I love people, even kids, and get along with my foster sisters very well. A few words from Bart’s foster mom: Bart walks well on a leash, sleeps all night in his crate without a peep, and is a very happy, laid-back guy. When we saw how cute she is and that we were her only chance of living, we said “yes, we’ll take her!". Boy are we glad we did, talk about sweet! This girl is so very sweet. She’s not pushy about getting attention and true to the long hair, she’s very laid-back. If you keep her crate door open, many times you’ll find her in there sound asleep. She is great at using the doggie door but she’d need a little retraining if you don’t have one. She loves to go outside so a fenced yard is a must. She does great with other dogs but we’d have to say “no” to cats. She has gone through heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free, and she must be kept on prevention year-round so she doesn’t get them again. This is why it's best he goes to someone that is home most of the time to help him. If you have the time, you won't regret adopting this little one. H e is an absolute sweetheart! Clark came from AL when his family was too ill to care for him any longer and the rest of the family decided it was best to turn him over to rescue. He is a bit of a shy boy due to not being well-socialized when he was younger, so he’ll need to go to someone that is willing to work with him and not just keep him in their home without teaching him that humans are not to be feared. For that reason we are saying kids over 12 years because anyone younger would scare him too much with their possible loud noises or play. He’s not aggressive with his shyness but is fearful and will bolt or run. He would benefit from some obedience training because he needs some confidence. He is better with his foster mom than his foster dad. He’s been with us here for almost a week and he wants to be in the foster mom’s lap or will follow her, but he’s just not sure about foster dad yet. We are working on that but again the new home has to understand this and continue that work and have lots of visitors in and out of their home. He is great with other dogs but doesn’t play much with them so he’d be fine being an only dog. He has picked up a few toys to play with but is not a destroyer of toys. Clark is just a laid back guy but that’s probably because he came from an older, quiet home. We really want to see him have a fenced yard and when he first came he’d go to the door because he didn’t know how to get out the doggie door but now he’s in and out a lot during the day. If you don’t have a doggie door then you’d probably have to give him a refresher course. He is not destructive when we have to leave for several hours and we leave him out in the house but more than that we’ve put him in a wire crate and he’s been fine with that too. He’s at a perfect weight of 14 pounds but we don’t give hardly any treats and we have him on measured food per day. This is important for a dachshund not to get over-weight. He loves to sleep in the bedroom on a doggie bed or your clothes. He did try at first to beg to get on the bed but didn’t try to jump on it and now he’s just fine staying off. If you are looking for an only child or to add to your pack, then Clark may just be what you are looking for. Just remember it takes him time to warm up but once he does, he’s the very best!!! =============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. Daisy can't seem to understand why she's being overlooked time after time, WHY?? She will let you know when someone comes to the door, she is fine left in the house while you are gone, loves sleeping in the big bed, will settle down after a short time when people come into the house, and will cuddle up if treats are given. She is highly treat motivated. Give her a chance, please. Daisy was an owner surrender right here in Middle Tennessee and we KNOW she was abused. We believe she was dropped or thrown, and kicked. She is a sweet pup but can be a bit anxious in new situations. Other than that, she has no other issues. Daisy loves her gentle human and would love a fenced yard because she loves to be outside with you and to run around. The rest of the time she'll chill in a doggie bed or on your lap or beside you on the couch just catching a movie or maybe a well-deserved nap. Couldn't you please give Daisy a chance to show you she'd be a great addition to your family? Daisy is mostly Dachshund but does look to have a little of something else in her, but we are not sure what... maybe Chihuahua or Beagle?? Not sure, but that doesn't take away from her sweetness! Scared and confused, it took about a week of "forced" family interactions before he decided he wanted to socialize. All things take time with him. You’ll need to be patient to see the end results of this cutie. He is tentative of most people at first, but after awhile he warms up. He is learning that baths are not that bad and that if he is a good boy he will get a treat. He enjoys a good meal, nice long walks and toys.... Lots of toys. He loves other dogs. He really would do best with another well-socialized dog that he can copy and learn what it’s like to be a beloved pet. Armand’s ideal family would be a family with older children willing to help him work through all his insecurities. He is working really hard on his manners, but when he gets excited they seem to go out the window. He needs someone to make an investment in him. I guarantee it will be the best investment you could ever make! He truly deserves his own family. Oh, did we mention that because he has an under bite his tongue sticks out all the time about a half inch? Talk about CUTE!!! =============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. I am looking for a special person to help me be the best dog I can be. I come from Alabama and my owners were moving and did not want me. My foster parents think I was abused by a man with a hat as they really scare me. I do not like men with hats! But once I get to know you, I am just fine. I live with two other male dogs and one female. I tend to want to be dominant, so I get along best with female dogs. I do play with my brothers, but sometimes they irritate me. Also, I do not like being in a crate! All that aside, I am a great, happy, loving dog! I love to snuggle. I love to give kisses. I love belly rubs. I need someone who will teach me that I can trust again. I love to run and play. I can jump really high and love to climb, so a tall fence is needed, or someone that will take me out on a leash to go potty. I am using a doggy door right now and know to use it when I have to go potty. Is there someone out there that will give me the love and attention I need? I would love to be a part of a loving family! =============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.
