  • German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix Dog For Adoption in Livonia, MI, USA

    Ivan

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 285. Good morning everyone, This is Ivan, our very handsome Shepherd mix that has become a local celebrity for Mikey & Me Foster Care. There has never been a dog come through the Mikey & Me kennels that deserves to find their home more than he does. Ivan is a loyal and loving dog, he is really smart, and he will make a wonderful companion for his human. Ivan came to us in June 2018 and he has always been a very sweet boy. But Ivan may have been mistreated because he came to us with a fear of meeting new people and he was unsure about how to trust them. So, when anyone new approached him, Ivan would bark or show his teeth or let out a soft growl to say “Hey, I don’t know if I can trust you, please don’t pet me”. Ivan had to learn how to trust people again and how to enjoy new experiences...........and that’s where we came in. Please be clear that Ivan is not a mean or aggressive dog in any sense of the word. Rather, he has fear-based reactivity and, at times, he will react to let the person know he is afraid. One of our volunteers has been working very closely with Ivan for several months no w. She is taking him on weekly field trips where he encounters new places, has new adventures, and where he encounters a wide variety of people. During this training, Ivan was wearing a muzzle just to be sure no one petted him before she could talk to them about his fears. You may have seen some of the pictures or videos from these training sessions on our FB page. Or you may have encountered Ivan at Lowe’s, Wags to Wiskers, or somewhere downtown. There have been quite a few other volunteers that stepped up to help Ivan by meeting him with his trainer downtown, or by allowing him to visit their home. Ivan has made remarkable progress learning to accept new people approaching his space and he has done an amazing job discovering the pleasures of having new adventures. He becomes very excited and jumps up and down when he sees the leash. He is just now starting to take walks downtown without being muzzled and interacting with people he has met previously. His trainer continues to challenge him while making sure he isn’t being pushed beyond his comfort zone. So, where do you come in? The bottom line is that Ivan needs and deserves to find his forever home. And we think he is ready but we want to make sure it’s the right home where his new owner fully understands his fears and who is willing to continue working with him. They will need to be a strong alpha so Ivan feels safe and protected in situations that may challenge him. (i.e. someone who is willing to thoughtfully say “No, thank you” when someone asks if they can pet their dog). Ivan has been neutered, he is heart worm negative, up to date on shots, and he has been microchipped for his safety. To make sure he doesn’t fail, we think Ivan will do best as an only dog where he will get the attention and reassurance he needs from his new owner. Ivan loves taking long walks and he likes to run too. Having a fenced in yard to wander around in will suit him nicely. Ivan is about 90 pounds and he is between 5-7 years old. Ivan is completely potty trained. Please consider sharing Ivan’s story and helping us find his forever home. As long as Ivan’s new home is near the Ann Arbor/Dexter/Chelsea area, Mikey & Me will cover the cost of four additional training sessions to help him acclimate to his new surroundings. His trainer can then work with Ivan’s new owner on how to manage and ensure his continued success. If you would like to meet Ivan, please message me here. Applications for his adoption can be submitted at happydaysdogandcatrescue. Thanks! Dan DePew Mikey & Me Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. This girl came into the rescue very fearful. She has been with her foster for almost 3 years and has come a long way. She loves her person and every animal she has ever met.. Fable will need an owner that can be patient and understanding. She is fully house trained, has spectacular manners and is just a joy to have around. Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 75.00. Cosmo is a cute senior Chihuahua mix. He is UTD on shots, neutered and microchipped. He warms up to people after a few days. He loves to go for car rides and snooze in his bed. He is not a particularly active dog, but does enjoy wandering around outside in good weather. Cosmo has arthritis in his backside and takes medication for pain management. Steps pose a challenge for him because of his arthritis, so a home with no stairs or just a couple would be great. Cosmo also has a significant heart murmur as well as age-related vision and hearing issues typical for senior dogs. Due to neurological issues, Cosmo is not reliably house trained. He gives little to no sign when he has to potty and will have accidents in the home unless picked up and carried outside frequently. Cosmo is afraid of most dogs so we are seeking a dog-free home for him OR a home with another senior, calm dog. He is easily frightened and responds with growling and biting at other dogs. Cosmo needs a patient, tolerant family that will accept him as he, allowing him to enjoy his golden years in peace and quiet. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Adoption Fee: 75.00. Free would do best in an only dog home. She does love the company of other dogs. However, for meal time only, she can be protective of her food from other animals. She cannot be roaming with other dogs when dog food is distributed amongst the bowls. She must be crated and away from other dogs. Free is a truly remarkable little lady! She is 7 years old and still a bundle of playful fun energy. She loves her walks and playtime, but she is also down to chill on the couch with you once she gets her energy out. She bonds really closely with her adult people. She is ok with kids but not overly interested in them so while she would be a great family dog if you are looking in particular for a calm dog for small young children she may not be the best fit. If you currently have pets she will need to meet them. This girl has been through so much. From being betrayed by her family, to surviving heart worm and a dog attack. She wants to live and be loved. She has been waiting to be chosen since Sept of 2016. Her adoption fee has been sponsored by a very caring person. You will still need to go through the adoption process. She will not go home to just anyone. She needs a home for the rest of her life, where no one will ever let her down again. Please please consider this great dog, she will reward your life richly. Free came into the rescue after an urgent plea by a college student that was desperate to save her! This wonderful human being saved her from a family that was giving Free away that was going to euthanize her when the last day came and no one had taken her. She was so desperate to save this dog's life that she slept in her car with Free for 3 days! She could not bring Free to her parents' condo due to the breed discrimination of the condo association. She did not have any money, no food for herself, but made sure Free was ok! Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. If you are interested in adopting Hailey please go to .lastdaydogrescue and fill out an adoption application. Do you like to swim? Do you like to play football? If you do I’m your girl. My name is Hailey. I am very smart and I love to play. If you ignore me I will complain to you. Isn’t that what all girls do? I am well educated and know lots of commands. I respond better to a firm leader. I would do really well in an active household. Kids who can run me around a backyard would be amazing for me. But not too little I am a big girl at 70 pounds. I’m very jealous of other dogs. Being the only dog is best for now. We work on my listening skills a lot. I am a really good jumper. You’ll need to keep that in mind. I am crate trained and love a good run. So if you need a work out partner I’m your girl.

    Tenny ❤️...

    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 175.00. Handsome Tenny was found in a building, unable to walk and with a shaking head. Tenny had a vet examine including a series of x-rays. The x-rays did not reveal anything abnormal and it was determined that Tenny had suffered some neurological damage and would require special care. Despite his difficulties, Tenny has been quite loving and he deserves a chance at a happy life. Some might say Tenny has had it rough but don’t tell him that – Tenny has one positive attitude and seems determined to enjoy life despite his challenges. Tenny has adjusted to his limitations and doesn’t let anything slow him down. He loves to play and run around outside, doing a unique kind of hop with his back legs because they tend to stay together when he runs. He is as sweet as can be, loves attention and enjoys being petted. With treatment and time, Tenny’s health has improved, but due to the neurological damage he sustained, housebreaking might be improbable. Future visits to a neurologist as he continues to grow might offer further insight and recommendations for care. Tenny needs a very special family; patient and understanding of his unique needs and able to provide him the ongoing care and support he may require for the remainder of his life. In return, this inspirational dog will give you unconditional love and loyalty. If you’re that special person Tenny is searching for, please contact his foster mom at Karen.wimberlyyahoo. Romeo ❤️...

    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Adoption Fee: 250. Romeo embraces life with joy and enthusiasm. Whether he is wrestling with the “big dogs”, running carefree through the backyard, or desperately trying to find those elusive cats, he looks and acts just like any other dog. However, Romy was born with multiple strikes against him. He is blind and has a severe heart defect that will require lifelong medication. Despite this, Romeo’s wonderful personality wins the hearts of everyone he meets. His limitations do not hold him back. He loves people and he greets everyone with a special spinning dance when they walk in the door. While he cannot see, his ears and his nose give him all the information he needs about his world. Don’t try to sneak a snack – although you think he is sound asleep, he will smell it and be next to you in seconds asking to share! He loves going on walks, playing with his squeaky toys and chewing on his bone next to the other dogs. He is not big on cuddling, he wants to be on the go and part of the action. When he gets sleepy, though, you may get lucky and get to snuggle! Romeo is looking for a very special forever home. He loves other dogs and would really love to find a family with another dog to live with. He is overly fond of chasing cats and it would be best for him to not live with any. He also loves to run free, but since he is blind a fenced yard would be preferred to keep him safe. Previous experience with blind dogs would be a plus but not necessary – just a willingness to learn! Cattle dogs are smart, and he can be trained to do anything sighted dogs can do. In fact, this breed needs mental stimulation to be happy. He will need his medications for the rest of his life and follow up monitoring of his heart. If you think Romeo might be a match for you, we can set up a meeting. He just might steal your heart!! HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter. Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 285.00. Hi, please let me introduce myself, my name is Sarah and I am a Lab/Jack Russell Terrier. I am house trained and crate trained, and love to go on walks and sniff around a securely fenced backyard. Did I tell you that its me that pick all the tomatoes from the plants in the yard ? I am also spayed and have had all of my shots. Sarah was badly treated by her first human family, and she finds it hard to trust new acquaintances. She needs an owner that can give her guidance (and plenty of treats) in situations when she feels insecure. After meeting a trainer Sarah have improved a lot and she responds to her special verbal command. A training class would be a great adventure for Sarah and her new family. She will excel and perform as an A-student, she likes to learn and is eager to please. Building a relationship with Sarah will be time well spent, once she has overcome her insecurity and fear she is a GREAT active, loyal, and loving dog. Please come and meet me, I need is a chance to find my permanent home. Older children only please. Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption.
