The Great Pyredane is a cross between an Great Dane and a Great Pyrenees. The Great Pyredane is a hybrid or designer breed that was developed by crossing Great Dane and a Great Pyrenees. Though the breed was intended to be a 50/50 mix, many of the Great Pyredane are bred over many generations and may not always be 50% and 50%. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
