Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). ********************THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING. THIS RESCUE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS DOG AND CANNOT ANSWER QUESTIONS.************************************************ Elsa (Snow) was dumped at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control by her owners on July 5, 2016. Her weight at that time was 94 lbs. She is now 72 lbs. This beautiful and loving girl was in boarding for a few months then adopted to what would have been the most amazing forever home for her. Unfortunately, her new daddy had a heart attack, is in the hospital and not doing well. He will no longer be able to care for Elsa and has returned her. Elsa is fully vetted, spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and heartworm negative. She is healthy other than degenerative hip disease. Foster mom has placed Elsa on weight management food to assist with losing weight to reduce stress on her hips. Elsa has lost some weight but still has more to go. She is housebroken, good on leash/in car/with people (a little shy when first meeting strangers), good with small dogs, not concerned with cats, ok with large dogs as long as they are calm and not dominant. Please open your heart and home to this amazing girl who just wants to be by her humans side and loved. Elsa is a couch potato however does like to go for walks and play. A large fenced in yard would be wonderful, or someone who loves to take long walks. Please contact JoAnn 561-313-2005 or joann@destinyfordogs.com. All dogs and puppies accepted into our rescue receive the finest vet care and psychological services we can provide. Our rescue and sanctuary is now located in Belleview, FL, with a foster homes in Lady Lake and Longwood. Please visit our website www.GSRFL.com to learn more about our organization. More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

We have no knowledge of of these dogs.********************** My friend’s mom just passed away, leaving two beautiful German shepherd dogs without a home. My friend is very concerned about their well-being and would be happy to drive them anywhere in the US from Florida for a happy permanent home, ideally together if possible. Here is her description: "They are both pure-bred German shepherds, healthy, with all the shots and paperwork and care that loved dogs receive from a responsible owner. Loki is 8 and absolutely the best dog you could imagine. Wonderfully trained and an absolute delight in every way. He is the loving gentleman par excellence. Phaedra is still in the 2-year-old restless puppy stage and though my mother trained him very well in his first year and a half, over the last 6 months as she has become weaker, Phaedra has become a little more restless. Phaedra is loving and desperate to please (like so many German shepherds), but she needs someone and someplace where she can play… living in a house of sickness was hard on a growing, energetic puppy. And one of the most heartbreaking things about all of this was how this floppy, energy bunny was so absolutely gentle when she was with my mom… especially when my mom was at her weakest. Phaedra is a good dog." Thank you so much! It would be a huge relief if we can find a loving home for these two beautiful dogs. He is a wonderful dog. We actually just adopted him to keep him from getting euthanized. He is great with other dogs but not with cats or small children. He's very loving and still has many puppy traits. I can't stress enough how wonderful he is. He's crate trained and leash trained. He's very smart and learns very quickly. He does love his chew toys, stuffed animals and long walks. We do believe that he was abused due to the fact that he does growl at my son when he wears a baseball cap but have had no other issues. We are military and were planning on moving to Huntsville, AL and my husband was going to retire. The Army changed its mind at the last minute and we are now moving to Germany with the Army and we cannot take Dagger with us due to his breed being restricted. Please help me find him and new loving home. He deserves so much love. Thank you for your time, Lucinda 813-860-1602 Dagger: Approximately 1 year old, has all his shots and neutered. He was aged by our vet as a 10 year old boy, however, he is the happiest, most playful ten year old shepherd his foster home has ever met. Trooper is extremely loyal and loves to shadow his foster parents where ever they are inside and out. He wants to be in visual contact with his person but does not exhibit separation anxiety. Trooper is crate trained and house broken. He is very vocal which sometimes gets him in trouble with the other foster dogs. He does tend to grumble in other dog faces which some take offense to. He is much better with female dogs than male and would love a female playmate doggie as he tends to play with the females in his foster homes.
