    Baby

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: German Shepherd Dog
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Baby is a 9 year old German Shepherd whose owner had to go to a Nursing Home and was no longer able to care for her. She is looking for a new owner that she can be devoted to as only a German Shepherd can do. House trained, knows how to sit, shake hands and speak on command and is a big couch potato. Baby gets along with other dogs. She is friendly to everyone but will alert you to any strange noises. She is currently overweight as a result of not getting her thyroid meds as directed but is loosing weight under careful supervision. She would do best with an owner experienced in German Shepherds, living indoors with access to a large fenced in yard and with plenty of opportunities for walks and hikes to help her with her weight loss.

    Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi my name is Lovett! I am a very pretty 8 year old German Shepherd. I have been told that I am a little short for my breed, but who cares right? I LOVE to eat! My favorite snacks are chicken, peanut butter and popcorn... when I find it on the floor. Most of the time I am very chill. I like to take naps, especially on the couch. I have learned not to get on the couch unless I am invited...and, well unless my parents aren’t around. I just can’t help it, because it’s sooo comfy. I get really excited when I get to eat. I know to sit and wait until I am told to eat, but sometimes I get so excited that I forget. I am not food aggressive, and I don’t mind a back rub while I eat my dinner. Sometimes I get so excited to go for a walk that my foster mom and dad have trouble getting my leash on me. I will sit and wait for you to put my leash on, but I like to try to give you high fives while you put it on. I pull a little at the beginning of my walk, but then I remember that I am supposed to heel. I try to lead on my walks, but I heel again when you remind me. I love car rides! I will jump immediately into the car if the door is open. I easily go in my crate, but occasionally you may need to bribe me with a treat. I do well when I am left out at home alone. I am not destructive, but I start to think I am Queen of the house...and nestle in on the couch for a nap. I need someone who understands that a GSD wants and needs rules and boundaries. My foster parents think that I am wonderful and they tell me so all the time. I don’t like thunderstorms and I’m terrified of the vacuum. When I get scared, I try to hide behind my current Alpha human or anywhere away from the vacuum. I have been through OLK9 Beginner Training. Once I acknowledge you as my Alpha human I will try to stick close by your side, but sometimes I do become curious and wander off. I would suggest a leash or fenced in yard to keep me safe. I get along well with other dogs of all sizes, as long as they are nice to me. I have met some cats, and I ignored them until they hissed at me. Then, I barked at them. They are weird hairy creatures...and they smell funny. I don’t bark much, but I do like to let my parents know when someone is at the door, or in the driveway. I like people and I'm very sweet. I am being fostered in Garner, NC. If you think I would be the perfect fit for you, please contact your adoption coordinator or fill out an app at www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Breed: German Shepherd Dog
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Skoal is a highly intelligent, 3 year-old German Shepherd looking for his forever home. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and ready to play. He weighs about 65 pounds. He is energetic and athletic, smart, playful. He needs to go to a home with no small children, but enjoys other dogs. He is very food motivated. He needs a strong Alpha owner for guidance and structure. His adoption does require a fenced yard. If interested, we would first need a vet reference (where we call a past vet to verify all your animals were utd on shots and on heartworm and flea prevention)

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hey, all! I'm Axle. I am 5 years old, 90 pounds, and have soft dark sable fur. I came into rescue after being boarded at vet’s office for several months when my owners got sick and couldn't care for me anymore. And while they took good care of me the vet’s office, I am really glad to be back in a home. I am full of energy and like to play. I would love a nice big yard to run and play in. This will help me get my energy out. I especially like balls and often carry one around with me in case anyone wants to play. I love attention and am very sweet. I will gladly climb into a lap to get that attention. I have manners but sometimes need to be reminded of them when I get excited. I'm a happy and confident boy. I get along with everyone. In my foster home there is another dog, but he won't play with me. There are cats too and I sometimes I try to play with them but foster mom say’s I'm too big. But we get along pretty good otherwise. There are also kids here. I like kids. They are lots of fun and full of play, like me. Mom says I would make a good hiking or jogging buddy. I mostly just want a home where I will loved and taken care of forever and played with endlessly. I travel well and am up for any adventure. Do you have room for a big hunk of love like me? I am being fostered in Richmond VA and am available to approved adopters that live in VA, MD, or NC. You can apply at www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com please be sure to read the FAQ section. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .

Reagan was recently rescued after being left by her owner who could no longer care for her. She lived in a home with two other dogs, three cats and a horse. Reagan likes to be in charge and does not like being pestered by more active dogs. She would be wonderful as an only dog or with older, mellow dogs. She is crate trained but prefers to be out and about. She loves freedom around the house. She would benefit with additional training, especially leash training. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. ~~Hi! My name is Eve and I’m a hugger, not a biter. I'm all of three years old and am on the petite side. Right now I live with my foster mom, foster sister and five foster fur-siblings. Yes, FIVE! Three of them are littler dogs than me and the other two are adorable cats. I get along with them all so much that I’m usually playing with more than one at the same time. It didn’t take me long to break out of my shell here because I just love everyone I meet and I love, love, LOVE to play. My foster mom and sister have grown attached to me but they tell me that it was just way too easy to fall in love with me. I like to be at the side of either of them when they are home and they always tell me how great I behave in my crate. I’ll admit, I don’t like going in it as readily as the others go in theirs but once I’m there, I’m okay. They love to tell me how wonderful I am because even though I am very playful, I can be very calm, too. I am housebroken and am not destructive when left alone. Like I said in the very beginning, I love to hug. But I promise, I am very gentle about it! I try my very best to not tackle, even when I am very happy to see you. I know how to sit and lay on command and I really love to give my paw. I happen to think I am very smart, too. If you think you can offer me my furever home, please work with your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. I am being fostered in Fayetteville, NC. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Max is a spirited 19 month old boy. He is a large shepherd, measuring about 29 inches at the shoulders. This means he can see out any window in the house, even the small window at the top of the front door at his foster family’s house. He is very lanky and seems to be all knees and elbows! Max has graduated from Hampton Roads Off Leash K-9 Training (THANK YOU, JESSIE!) and has proven to be a great learner who is expanding his vocabulary with new commands all the time. Max loves other dogs and would benefit greatly in a home with another four-legged friend to play with. We feel Max could be homed with a cat, but his desire to chase and play is very, very strong, so it would require a lot of work and supervision to reach a happy co-habitation for all. Max loves to play musical pillows with his foster sister and he shares nicely. Since his foster sister is older and used to being in charge, he let’s her pick her pillow first. He has great manners and only has to be reminded once in awhile that couches are not for puppies. Max likes his tennis ball time with his foster sister and has learned to only chase his ball while leaving her ball for only her. He has a very special bond with his foster dad and loves being his constant shadow while he works out in the yard or on the cars. He also loves his foster mom, and asks for snuggles from her all the time...even climbing in an unoccupied lap if given the chance. He loves long walks in the woods and tracks nicely. Max is a bit of a lush and drinks a lot. This means he needs breaks to go out to use the potty during the day if he has access to water. His foster family has learned to take up the water dish about an hour before his bedtime so he doesn’t have issues at night. Max crates on command with no issues and sleeps quietly in his box. Once he hears his foster parents alarm though, he is ready to start his day. Max has a soft mouth at treat time and his foster family makes him sit patiently waiting for his food. He also is being trained to sit down a few feet back from the door when he wants to go out and wait to be released to go outside. Max knows sit, down, come, off, crate, break, and heel and does them all Off Leash with distractions! He makes a great running partner who will heel the entire time if asked. He is even responding to a series of whistles that his foster dad is teaching him so that he can wander a bit in the woods while they walk. but still be kept close with whistle commands. Max has begun learning hand commands for sit and down, as well. Max is very smart and teachable; he could easily be taught to do just about anything. He is eager to please and loves being told he is a good boy, with no treats required for training. Max will train just to have your undivided attention. He did ask me to add that he never turns a treat down. :) Max is constantly aware of what is going on outside and is always monitoring the situation. However, he only barks when he thinks it is absolutely necessary or if his foster sister starts the barking. He has even made his foster family aware of the presence of other animals in the woods without making a noise. Max is a great dog for keeping his home safe. Max has had a very inconsistent past and has been in many, many homes because of puppy behaviors that were never properly corrected. In the past, he has used his size along with intimidation growls and mouthiness to get his way. He has learned that he can bully a weak handler. He always apologizes, and now he recognizes, these behaviors are no longer acceptable, but for these reasons Max will not be permitted in a home with children. Max requires a strong handler, who knows the breed and will not be intimidated. The training that Max has received has been a wonderful thing for him, but he needs continued work to help him build the trust needed to take correction from his handler. Max's adoption includes a lesson from our awesome trainer at OLK9. Jessie is one of our past adopters, who gives back to SGSR by donating her time and skills to help make some of our dogs more adoptable. Thank you!! Approved adopters please contact your Adoption Coordinator if you'd like more information about UltraMax. If you reside in VA, MD or NC, you can complete an adoption application at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com to potentially adopt one of our dogs. Please begin with the FAQ page and adoption tabs for more information about our process. We don't adopt to areas outside of VA, MD and NC because we don't have the volunteer resources to do so. Thank you for your understanding. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .

    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi, my name is Leo. Some call me "Teddy Bear" because I’m just that cuddly! I’ve learned to love the life of leisure at my foster home. I love people whether it’s the ones in my home that I shadow or people I meet out when we go shopping. Everyone seems to love me too. I live with two dogs, and we all get along great. I was a little skinny when I first got here, but I'm about 103 pounds now. I'm a big boy but a gentle giant! I have had issues with my skin and ears since joining SGSR, probably due to allergies, so I eat special dog food. A potential adopter needs to understand that this makes me a little high maintenance and may require future vet visits. I am a long-coated shepherd (likely a small King Shepherd), so I'll need regular grooming (yay!). I'm extremely laid back and do not have perfect hips, so I'm definitely not the "running partner" type. I'm more the "long walks and snuggling" type. I have some stuffed animals that came with me from my old home and I carry them around sometimes. I’m actually not too interested in chasing balls and such. I’d rather just watch the other dogs play. I live with a cat also. I like to sniff or lick the cat occasionally, but otherwise I just lay around and watch. I’m 3 years old, but loaf around like I’m much older. My AKC papers say I was born in 2013, so it must be so. I’ve never had an accident in the house and don’t normally ask to go out...I just wait until foster mom or dad are going out and join them. I stay home with my fur siblings and don’t get into any trouble, so I guess that makes me trustworthy. I sleep wherever I please as long as it’s near people. There are no children where I live now, but I’ve liked the kids I’ve met in stores. If you want a loving, cuddle bug, then I’m what you’re looking for! Contact your adoption coordinator if you think I'm a good match for your family. If you have not yet been approved and live in VA, NC or MD, you can find SGSR's adoption application here: www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. Please be sure to read the FAQ section. I’m being fostered in Norfolk, Virginia. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .
