Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). 4/10/17 Vivi continues to do well on the Prednisone and Tylosin. The Prednisone does increase her water intake, and output, and the Tylosin helps keep her stools as close to normal as possible. The pancreatic enzymes, along with her special diet, help Vivi remain healthy. She still enjoys her chew toys and fur-siblings, a ride in the car and walk in the park. 9/9/16 Update: Vivi has recently been diagnosed with Atypical Addison's. She has been placed on a daily dose of Prednisone and a monthly injection of B-12. Vivi will receive these for the rest of her life. She continues with the twice daily enzymes for EPI as well as a restricted diet for the IBD. Due to the recent diagnosis, Vivi needs to avoid stressful situations, including rescue events. In spite of her medical needs, Vivi remains a sweet and loving dog who is happy to see her people each day and play with her fur-siblings. 4/28/16 Update: I guess I spoke too soon.....Vivi suffered a severe flare-up of her IBD and needed short-term hospitalization. It seems Vivi ate too much grass, causing inflammation in her gut thus triggering the flare-up of the IBD. She's doing better now, the meds and prescription diet are kicking in, sSe'll be back to her happy self in no time! 3/4/16 Update: Vivi continues to do well. She still requires enzymes with each meal, and meds must be kept on hand in the event of a "flare-up" (diarrhea), or she goes too long without eating. She can be a little temperamental when it comes to eating, sometimes requiring finding the right room in which to eat. 9/2 Update: Aviva - (Vivi), is a wonderful member of her foster's family! She LOVES the toy basket and will root around for just the right toy for the moment. Sometimes something fuzzy and squeaky, sometimes hard and chewable. Aviva enjoys lounging in the house with her fur-siblings, or on the not-so-hot days resting beneath a large forsythia in the backyard......she's dug herself a nice hole in the ground perfect for an afternoon nap! Mention the word "walk" and Vivi will race you to the door and wonder why it's taking so long to get her leash on her! She loves the neighbors, big and small, and happily greets those along our path. Vivi still needs close monitoring of her food intake (and output) and continues on the daily enzyme supplement to treat her EPI. And if she does happen to go too long without eating, she is given an appetite stimulant. To read some of Aviva's past updates check out her page here. Thank you to all of those who have given so generously to Vivi's medical fund. Your donations will help ASR fund the necessary veterinary care to help Aviva. Help spread the word about Aviva by printing a few of her flyers to hand out or post in your vet's office. If you are interested in sponsoring Aviva or helping with her medical /dental care, donations are gratefully accepted via Paypal or by mail to P O Box 23231, Baltimore Md 21203) Aviva and ASR thank you. Thank you to David Diep for your donation! (6/29/14) Thank you to Sunni Edinger for your donation! (8/17/14) Special thanks to Dr. Daniel Negola, DVM, of Gaithersburg, MD for his generous rescue discount for Aviva's endoscopy & biopsies. Without this procedure, we would not have our diagnosis. Thank you to the Brown family of Silver Spring, MD for covering the remaining balance for the endoscopy.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Apache is looking for a new home.......he absolutely loved his canine sister and adoptive Mom, but became protective with people in the home, and unfortunately, there were a lot of visitors and contractors in the home. Apache has always done well with other dogs and people at various events so we are a bit puzzled by his reported behavior. We think group training and a structured environment will benefit this very sweet " velcro" boy. His new foster reports he has been great with all people and dogs he has met! If you are interested in meeting Apache, please email adoptions at allshepherdrescue.com or complete an online application at www.allshepherdrescue.com

He loves to play fetch and is an expert at finding tennis balls. He gets along with other dogs and is extremely exuberant when trying to meet people. He responds well to direction, but will need clear and consistent boundaries to help him mature into his full potential. An active home would be best - teenagers or older . Jake will be adopted ONLY to a family with prior experience with reactive German Shepherds. rescue
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Border Collie Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Collie / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Skipper's foster reports : Skipper is a super love bug , with people and dogs ...he becomes very excited when he sees other dogs but after introductions is very social and loves to play ! Due to his high energy he is best suited for children over about 10 years old......while he is very friendly smaller children may get knocked over or bumped by his excited greetings . Skipper is very prey driven so cats, squirrels and any other small animals are of high interest to him. If allowed he would chase with a fervor. Border Collie and Lab are his predominate breeds but with his muscular size he also appears to have some sort of bully breed too so will not be adopted to any home where any type pf bully breed is not allowed. If you are interested in learning more about Skipper, please email adoptions@allshepherdrescue.com

      Max

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Max is a very loyal and playful boy in search of the right home. As an added plus, he has a TON of personality! Max is housebroken, well behaved when left home alone, walks well on a leash (mostly), and knows at least a dozen commands thus far. He is great with other dogs and the resident people in his own home, but unpredictable with strangers and visitors, especially in his home. Max's "stranger danger" issues mean that he will do best if placed in a home that doesn't have a lot of visitors inside of the house and with a family who is prepared to work with his social anxieties and fear aggression. If given the appropriate amount of time and experiences, Max does warm up to others, but it is a process that requires time, patience and a good trainer. He has made more friends (canine & human alike) in his foster's neighborhood while on their walks than any dog before him, but in the same breath he's likely scared more visitors away from his foster home than any dog before him. Max was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia last spring and had a Total Hip Replacement of his left hip this winter. He has recovered nicely and is getting back to his normal exercise routine which currently includes several long walks each day. Many thanks to all who donated to Max's Medical Fund ! Now that Max's is healed he is ready for his forever home, could it be yours? If you think you might be interested in adopting or fostering-to-adopt Max, please feel free to reach out to his foster mom at furryfriends24@yahoo.com with any questions you may have! If you are not yet approved to adopt from All Shepherd Rescue, please fill out our online application at www.allshepherdrescue.com. Our adoption fee is $300.00.

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Leila is sponsored by quite a few people! Check out her list here Leila is just the sweetest, most loving little girl! She smothers your face with kisses and loves to be held in your lap for petting . She deserves a life full of love and hugs, dog bones and long walks! During her initial veterinary examination, it was discovered that this tiny pup everyone thought was about 12 weeks old was really about 5 or possibly even 6 months old and had a stage 5 heart murmur! Further examinations by veterinary cardiologists revealed a severe congenital heart defect. Leila was diagnosed with Valvular Pulmonic Stenosis and had surgery - a procedure called a "Balloon Valvuloplasty" to correct this disorder, thanks to the generosity of ASR supporters with a surgery fee of slightly more than $3000. Unfortunately, although the surgery was a success, in a short period of time the tissue had regrown and no there are no further surgical or medical options. Leila receives a daily medicine called a beta blocker and has a periodic check up from a cardiologist inducing an echocardiogram to check for any changes in her heart. We will do what it takes to help this girl to live as normal a life as possible. Leila is in her foster home and loving it! She loves her big, big German Shepherd foster brother and foster sister - and enjoys trying to get the upper hand - always from both! Her foster mom reports that aside from tiring easily, Leila is a typical playful and loving puppy - with a cute personality...and she is waiting for her forever home. If you would like to donate to help cover the cost of Leila's semi-annual cardiologist visits and echocardiogram (about $650), please use link below To see how Leila is doing check out her surgery page here! If you are not yet approved to adopt from All Shepherd Rescue, please fill out our application online at www.allshepherdrescue.com. Our Adoption fee is $300.00
