Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Wow! Look at this beautiful girl with her one blue eye. Matilda (affectionately called Mattie) is probably a mix of German Shepherd and Husky, but on the petite size at about 50 pounds. We believe Mattie to be less than 2 years old. Mattie's beginning was not very good. She was found as a stray, very skinny and scared. She was taken to the shelter, but no one ever came looking for her. One of our great volunteers met Mattie at the shelter and knew that once Mattie was out of that environment she would blossom, and she has. Mattie has done great with her foster dad, and enjoys going for walks and to the park, where Mattie likes to play with the other dogs. She is a bit protective of her human when on a leash, but she can be redirected very easily. This is typical behavior for a German Shepherd, and we recommend a home with some previous dog experience for her. Mattie knows how to sit and shake, and is learning her "down" command. She walks well on a leash and is just an overall good girl. She likes hanging out with her foster dad and enjoying a good squeaky toy or chew toy to play with. Mattie does well with children, but she has not been tested with cats. We’re looking forward to the happy ending of Mattie's story, when her new family comes to take her home!
