PERLITE - LABRADOR RETRIEVER / POINTER / MIXED DOG FOR ADOPTION

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pointer / Mixed. Foster update: Perly has come such a long way from the frightened dog he was 5 months ago. Every morning, he and Lindsay (my dog) do their happy dance, wag their tails and put their paws on me. At other times during the day, he sees my dog getting love and pets and he wants that too; but, he is cautious and stays on his bed. I can tell he is ready to try to break through this behavior. He is makingeye contact and doesn't really tremble anymore. When people come over, I ask them not to pay attention to him and he is comfortable observing us. He's only been around 2 dogs since I've been fostering him. My dog and a 5-month old male puppy that I watched for a few hours. The puppy went into his kennel and Perly just shut down. I didn't expect this reaction with a puppy. (he loves it when my dog hangs with him in his kennel) It took 4 weeks for him to recover from that. I moved his kennel and started closing his kennel door when people came over and that helped him feel secure. Lindsay is a 6-year old mixed breed female rescue dog that is not alpha. Perly has free run of the house, but stays in the family room and backyard. He loves being outside at night. He does zoomies, rolls on his back and has made a little nest under one of my trees. He likes to play with rubber balls and the hem on towels. He's getting better about going outside during the day. He used to only go outside during the day to do his business. (He has never had an accident in the house) I don't think he would be good in a situation where he had to go on walks to do his business. (he hasn't been on a leash for a walk). He recently decided he didn't need his kennel anymore; but, it is still available to him.( I would recommend his forever family start out with one) He is starting to be more relaxed and sleep on his side. (he hasn't had a full belly rub yet; but, likes the partial side belly rubs) He hasn't ventured to any other level than the family room. He does come up to the kitchen level, briefly, when he hears the treat or dinner bag. He is more naturally comfortable around men. He'd like being around a relaxed dog who can show him that life is fun and safe. I have a quiet household and I feel he could handle a little more people activity. Perly still needs a lot of time. He is not going to be the dog that you can take on a walk tomorrow or that is going to greet you at the door when you come home; but, he will get there. He is gentle, smart and has common sense. I know he will be a loving and loyal family member. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.
