Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier. Beautiful Grace lives up to her name in more ways than one. Not only is she friendly with everyone she meets, she takes life in stride on just three legs. Grace was adopted from a public shelter in April of 2015 and sadly, her owner recently has been faced with a move and is unable to take this sweet girl with her. She's hopeful to find Grace the perfect new home! Grace is estimated to be 2 years of age and is spayed and current on her vaccines. She's fantastic with everyone she meets and is also great with kids and cats. She can be dog selective, so would love to be your one & only canine friend. She's the perfect balance of playful and calm and is very loving and affectionate. She knows many basic commands, including how to sit & stay when the doorbell rings or it's mealtime. She's housebroken and loves to go on walks and adventures! She's fantastic in the home and not destructive when left alone. If you're looking for a great canine friend, this beautiful girl is waiting for you! Grace is an adoptable dog through CCHS's Re-Homing Assistance Program and has not been met or evaluated by CCHS. If you are interested in knowing more about or potentially adopting Grace, please complete an adoption application and we'll gladly forward it on to her current guardian!

More About Labrador Retriever Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Chihuahua

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua. It's the perfect season for a little Apple Pie! And you'll just want to lick up every last morsel of this cutie-patootie, trust us. Apple Pie is a total dollface! She's affectionate and playful, loves to run zoomies and is very smart - she picked up on house-training in her new foster home on the first day (score!). She may need a little time to warm up to you but, once you earn her trust, she will be your lap dog for eternity. There's no doubt that when a dog knows they're safe, they finally feel like they can let loose and enjoy life a bit more! Apple Pie is estimated to be between 4-5 years of age and is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. She'll do awesome in an adult household with or without other animals, but definitely with someone who's looking for a loyal, fun, loving little buddy dog. She appreciates being given some time to adjust at her own pace, but in no time she'll be curled up next to you on the sofa (she loves to be close to her person). She also enjoys car rides, walks, adventures, and she's always up for dinner time! She's not just a slice of pie, she's the entire sweet pie with a big dollop of whipped cream on top! Apple Pie is in a foster home and is available for a meet and greet by appointment. Interested adopters should fill out an application. If you are viewing this through a third-party website such as Petfinder, please visit www.cchumane.org/adopt to fill out the application. If you are renting your home please be prepared to show a copy of your lease allowing pets. A big thanks to our friends at Smart Paws Pet Resources for their wonderful photos of this little cutie pie!

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier) (short coat). This very special senior boy is looking for a loving person to call his own. Coco is a very happy, sweet and gentle senior boy who is in need of a forever home - his loving owner is planning extensive travels and will be living overseas for a portion of the year - and so Coco is hoping that someone will provide him a loving family in his retirement years. Coco is a darling Jack Russell Terrier who is just shy of 12 years of age and is neutered and current on his vaccines. Weighing just 12-15lbs., he's a great small size! Coco has lost his eyesight and so needs a home comfortable with having a blind dog, but he's acclimated beautifully and still loves to go on walks and play. He's fully housebroken and uses a dog door with ease, and he's had much experience with his owner's grandkids and has been wonderful with them. He's a great dog who also loves to be in your lap if given the opportunity. He'll make a great companion for a special person looking for an easy-going, good-natured, gentle dog who's hopeful for a family of his own. Coco is a courtesy listing through our Re-Homing Assistance Program and has not been met or evaluated by CCHS. For more information on Coco or to potentially adopt him, please contact Bill at wkhbill@pacbell.net or at 925-947-6947. Thank you!
