Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Amy has spent her whole life with children and cats whom she loves. She is quite mellow in the house, but she will let you know when the doorbell rings. Amy does not jump - just wags her tail in greeting. We should all be so vibrant! When Amy was a puppy, she was attacked by small dogs at a dog park. Since then, she is fearful of small dogs at her home. Despite her owner’s watch over 10 years, Amy did recently dash out the front door and bite a neighbor's small dog. Her current owners cannot bear to take her to a shelter as she’ll be euthanized (age, bite history). They live on a busy suburban corner where many dogs walk daily and the neighbors will not let her stay in her home. In a different location, this incident would never have happened. She is truly a big ball of love, she just has this very minor special need to not allow small dogs near hear home. Please contact Amy's Guardian Angel: michelle@michiko.org 858.774.7449

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Dill

      rescue
      Breed: American Bulldog-Basset Hound Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Basset Hound / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Dill is a very sweet and loving 70lb lapdog. He's an English Bulldog/Basset Hound mix, just turned 7 years old in January, and needs help!! He's being given up because of a divorce. Dill loves people and loves to cuddle, but is very alpha with other large dogs. He is very aggressive, especially on the leash and will lunge after them on walks. A spray water bottle works wonders to control this. He does get along with smaller female, non-alpha, dogs and is good with kids. Dill is current on shots, in great health and has never had any health problems. His mom was an English Bulldog who came into rescue pregnant. So Cal Bulldog Rescue fostered the puppies and then they were adopted out of San Diego. Father was definitely a basset hound. Please contact Dill's guardian angel: Tara Bauer at (619)818-5175 or taragbauer@yahoo.com

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Dallas has been with one family since she was a puppy, but needs to find a new family who has time and space to give her the exercise and playtime that she loves. She has a sweet, playful disposition and loves running in the park. She is good with dogs that she knows, or are close in size and introduced to her carefully, but she does not like small dogs. Her new family must have the patience and desire to spend time with her to train for walking obediently and ignoring other dogs on the way. She is good with children. Dallas is currently located in Mission Viejo, CA. Please contact Michelle at dogzinneed@yahoo.com or call 760-380-8973

      Petey

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Pointer-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Pointer / Mixed. Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Petey the puppy is a handsome dog found as a stray when very young. When he was first found, he looked like a beagle mix with his long ears and brown spots. He is named after the dog from little rascals TV show due to his spotty colors. But as he's getting older, people comment that he looks like an English Pointer with his lean body. One of his eyes has white eyelashes while the other eye lash is black, like the character from Star Trek. He gets compliments on his good looks wherever we go. Petey is a very active dog who loves to run, especially splashing at the dog beach. He loves to play with all types of dogs, both small and large. He has a knack for getting the other dog riled up so that he gets chased, and then becomes best buddies, running and wresting. He lived with two cats, so he is good with cats as well. Because he is so active, he runs several miles a day with his foster dad, morning and evening, as well as visits dog beach few times a month. Unfortunately, Petey is very shy of people, especially fearful of kids. He avoids people and shivers when kids come near. We're working on this by visiting places with many people like the Home Depot and Balboa Park and taking walks near an elementary school when kids are present to get him used to people, but he is still apprehensive. While any caring home adopting him will be wonderful, it will be great if Petey gets adopted by an active family with many kids, and patience so that he can learn to trust people and kids. He may not be too happy in a couch potato home. Please contact Michelle Johnson at dogzinneed@yahoo.com or call 760-390-8973

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Sweet brothers Sarge and Pudge recently lost their beloved owner when he passed away suddenly. They are a bonded pair from the same litter and were loved unconditionally. Both love to be petted, be around people and to PLAY. They do well with kids, other dogs and would thrive in a family situation where they can be walked and loved. Pudge LOVES a tennis ball... he will get territorial over his ball, but neither dog has any issues with being around other dogs. Pudge has a scar with missing fur on his side from an injury when he got caught in a fence when he was smaller. Sarge loves to play also, but will slow down when his knees start to bother him. He is on thyroid medication, pain meds for his knees and just had dental work done on his last month. These easy-going pups are 10 yrs old, neutered, crate trained and house trained, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. They are currently in boarding in Anza/Temecula area of Riverside County and their owners daughter is doing everything she can to find new loving homes as she is unable to keep them. Please contact Michelle at dogzinneed@yahoo.com or 760-390-8973 to meet Sarge and Pudge

He was a volunteer favorite at the shelter which is the only reason he survived it... Weighing 66lbs, Mufasa is a big 'ol love bug who gives sloppy kisses and walks like a regal lion. He is super joyous and happy and would make an excellent best friend. He's got a medium energy level and gets along great with other dogs. Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Scarlett was thankfully rescued from Orange County Animal Control on her last day by Underdog Foster Network. She was previously abandoned at a park in Santa Ana. Scarlett has great manners, thanks to the training provided by Canine Behavioral Specialist Brigitte Shaw. She loves to run, play ball, hike, or just cuddle on the couch or go for long car rides. Scarlett would do best in a home with no small children and where she is the only pet. Everywhere Scarlett goes, she wins over hearts with her sweet nature. She is currently boarded at Alicia Pet Care in Mission Viejo and the staff ADORES her! She was first boarded at Hamilton Animal Hospital and the staff didn't want to see her go... Please contact Scarlett's Guardian Angel to meet her: Roni Raczkowski, ronir@msn.com 714-878-3796
