Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Josey! Josey is an 1 year old, female, Shepherd mix that weighs around 57 lbs. She was originally found off of Windjammer Lane at the Harbor in Rockwall on 03/13/23 and sadly never reclaimed. Josey is a smart active girl that is looking for a FURever home of her own. Josey has done well with other dogs but a meet and greet is suggested prior to adoption if you have other pets in the home. Josey has been searching for her furr ever home for 385 days as of 04/01/24 and is a Diamond Dog! Her adoption fee is $75. She is spayed, microchipped, current on her rabies vaccination, and basic boosters and is heartworm negative! If you are interested in adopting Josey, please complete an online adoption application on our website at rockwalladoptions/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ . All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm. For questions, please call 972-771-7750 ext. 2 or email infoRockwallAdoptions. IMPORTANT NOTICE: All shelter animals are required by Texas state law to be spayed/neutered. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
