Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Duke! He is a great dog and will make a great companion dog for you! He gets along well with other dogs, but prefers calmer dogs. His current family really loves him, but has a small dog who is not so happy with Duke and they are not getting along. Duke is a very obedient dog who is house-trained and a really sweet and loyal boy to his humans. He would love a home where he is the center of attention and get to go on walks, hikes, and to the dog park occasionally. His family is heartbroken about having to give him up, so he needs a really special family who will give him all of the attention and love he deserves! Come and meet Duke! We think that Duke is mostly Lab, but probably has a little Pit in him. He has beautiful shiny black/brown/grey fur and is a great boy! This dog is Courtesy Listed in an effort to help the organization sponsoring the dog find them a new forever home. Please understand this dog is not the property of Labs and More Rescue and that we are only courtesy listing this dog. Labs and More Rescue accepts no responsibility for the information provided concerning this dog. For more information, please contact Greg at gpelton@bppd.com or call 714-920-1068, You will love this boy!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

They're finding me a family to call my own. I am a total cool dud. I love other dogs and people and especially enjoy walks, hikes, and trips to the beach. I have been going to Fiesta Island regularly and think I am a big shot because I know my way around. Man what a blast!!! I'm pretty easy going and only make much noise when I have something to say. Ya, you'll hear the occasional bark from me but it's not without cause. I'm just a friendly, sweet little guy looking for a nice, active family. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed. I'm Tipper and I came to Wagging Tails from another rescue that was shutting down. I'm 4 years old and 15 pounds. I was very uncertain of this new place, so I'm feeling a bit shy. I've been through a lot and I'm still learning to trust. My foster family is helping me come out of my shell and show everyone that I'm actually very sweet and playful. I like other dogs, treats, and quiet, gentle people. I need someone who is experienced and patient to show me that the world's not such a scary place. As you can see I am photogenic. I like to sleep on the bed and snuggle up to my foster mom. I let her pet me and scratch my belly when she's lying down and I don't feel threatened. I know I have it in me to be a happy dog I just need a person to give me a try. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Meet Jackie! This beautiful 6 year old Shepherd mix has flourished since arriving with Labs and More! She was used as a breeding dog until she was no longer useful to them, but is now loving life and being pampered in her foster home. Jackie is friendly and affectionate, loves to snuggle, and does well with other dogs of any size. She is a playful and happy girl who loves treats and all things that squeak. Jackie is house trained and has access to a yard (and her choice of dog beds) when her humans leave. This beauty has inoperable hip dysplasia with some arthritis and walks with a limp, but she doesn't let that stop her from enjoying life! The sight of her leash (meaning it's time for a walk) and new squeaky toys always get a speedy trot out of her. She takes glucosamine but otherwise doesn't need any medication except when she'll have a day with increased activity, like a trip to the park. She is calm, gentle, extra sweet, and can stay home uncrated without getting into anything. Jackie would love a forever family that enjoys a leisurely lifestyle and wants to be showered by her love. No kitties for this sweetie, she thinks they are far too fun to chase. If you would like to give this sweet girl a second chance at happiness, apply to adopt online today on our website. Posted Breed: Border Collie / Mixed. Meet Petey! This 2-year-old beauty has done wonderfully in his foster home. He has opened up to trust and love the family and is ready to find the right forever family. This boy has gained confidence, likes to go on hikes, and will need a family that can take it slow with him to give him time to adjust to his new home and trust and bond with you. This boy can scale a chain link fence so he will need a secure yard with other fencing or a wall. True to his Border Collie breed, he is energetic and will need daily exercise and/or playtime. Petey is house-trained, crate-trained, dog-friendly, and cat-friendly. He can be trusted to be left in the house by himself, and he has the perfect balance of being active when you want him to be outside while also understanding that he should calm inside the house. He is a wonderful running partner and is an equally excellent cuddle partner. We recommend no small children and his foster family is willing to work with his new family to aid in the transition if needed. He feels confident being near his people and likes to share the bed with his foster mom! He is truly a gentle soul. Posted Breed: Collie / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. This lovely one-year old lady is Rowan. Labs & More rescued Rowan after she was hit by a car and abandoned on the street for weeks. After an emergency surgery to repair her bilateral pelvic fractures, she spent several months healing and relearning how to be a happy and carefree puppy again - and she came back full force. Rowan is one of the happiest, cuddliest, silliest dogs you'll meet! Not only did she heal completely and can walk normally, she can also run (short distances), jump and play with no problem! However, she'd like you to note that she'd prefer to be a cuddle bug than a running buddy. Her favorite place is on your lap or snuggled up in bed with you - preferably while giving you unlimited hand kisses. She can be left uncrated while you're away, although she's definitely not opposed to a crate. She often goes into her crate willingly. She loves going for walks to check out the neighborhood and chase squirrels, but she is not a dog park kind of dog. Despite her small frame, this little girl likes to be top dog. She gets along with her foster sibling, but would prefer to be an only dog. Unfortunately, Rowan is very frightened by men and small children, so she needs an all-female household or a very, very patient boyfriend/husband. It should also be noted that she has some food allergies and therefore requires special food. It's not a big deal, but is worth mentioning. Her favorite thing in the world is snuggling up with you to get pets or chewing on a tennis ball. Let your adoption coach know if you'd like to meet this spunky and sweet floof! If you are ready for the rewarding experience of adding to your family by adopting a dog, and you are interested in meeting Rowan, your first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website. This information is as up to date and accurate as possible for the dog in their current environment. All dogs and puppies will need time and training to adjust to their new surroundings and learn the rules of their new home. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, the first step is completing the adoption application, available with our adoption process on our website at www.labsandmore.org. Your adoption includes the spay or neuter, current vaccinations, microchip, and other services provided while in our care. The safety and health of our puppies is priority one so we only allow approved applicants to meet and handle puppies. Please understand everything we do is for the dogs and conducted by our kind and generous volunteers. We rely solely on donations and we do not profit from a dog's adoption. Labs and More is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates on donations and time dedicated to this cause by volunteers. Your adoption will save the life of future dogs in need. Labs and More makes no guarantees regarding the behavior, breed, or age of the dogs in our care. Although we strive to provide necessary medical care to dogs in our care, we cannot predict future or current medical needs whether they were symptomatic or not at the time of adoption.Thank you for looking to Adopt a Labrador Retriever or other Mixed Breed Dog from California Labradors Retrievers and More Rescue.
