Posted Breed: English Mastiff. Adoption Fee: 450.00. Fill out an Adoption Application This big boy has an even bigger heart, and he will be so happy when he has a family to love! Kirk is a 4-5 year old English Mastiff who came in to a shelter in Ohio as a stray. He was emaciated and filthy, but now that he is cleaned up, safe, and being fed, his beautiful nature can take center stage. He is housebroken and well behaved in the house, does not jump up, chew, or bark. He whines for a few moments when separated, but quickly settles down. He respects gates and fences and accepts confinement (though he wishes he could be with you ALL the time!) Kirk is all sweetness with people, and quickly endears himself to anyone he meets. Kirk will be getting neutered soon and having some dental work done; then he will finally be able to devote his love to his new family. Likes: being with people, being petted, short walks, meals and treats Dislikes: dark places and slippery floors Personality: calm, laid back, and happy. Temperament: Kirk accepts being groomed and handled with no problem. He is not anxious or fearful, and his eagerness to please and be with people makes him easy to manage Energy level: Kirk enjoys short walks – a mile at a time seems to be enough for him. He is easy to walk and responsive on the leash. He is happy to just sit or lay around quite a lot. He is not a high energy dog. Favorite activities: being petted, belly rubs. Kirk does not play with toys. Good with Cats? No. Kirk is large and wants to chase cats. Good with Dogs? Unknown. Possibly, but he has to learn some manners and be introduced carefully because he is too overwhelming for other dogs right now. He has not shown any aggression towards other dogs, but has shown himself to be too pushy and excited around other dogs to have a successful introduction. Good with kids over 6? Kirk seems to especially love children. He is eager to meet them and he sits and and stays still so that he can be petted. He is gentle and shows no signs of dominance around children. Not good with: cats, reactive dogs, small dogs Housetrained? Yes Crate trained? Yes Challenges: This boy is big (105 pounds and gaining daily) and can be clumsy and pushy for attention, so he is best around older children and adults who can avoid being pushed around by his big head or knocked over by his wagging tail. Kirk does get very excited when he sees other dogs, and needs a strong person to handle him on a leash in those moments. He does not counter surf with people present, but he is tall and his head easily sniffs its way along the counter top with all four paws on the floor.Left unattended in a room, he will jump up and help himself to something if it smells interesting. Medical issues: Kirk needs to be neutered and have some dental work done prior to adoption. What would be the best home? Kirk would like a home with calm people who will allow him to follow them around the house. His main interest is being with people, inside or outside. He is an easy-going boy who does not need anything more than regular meals, love, and companionship to make him very, very happy. Fostered in Fairview, PA.
