Description
He is a very happy, handsome, red mixed breed dog with a mysterious past. He is very loving with a goofy personality and he is eager to please. He loves his toys and especially a good ball! He is neutered (6 weeks ago), up to date on shots, microchipped, housebroken, crate trained at night, and responding well to training over the month that we have had him. He needs a home without cats, which is why we have to rehome him. We have had him around young children and he did well, but he would need extra training to be gentle enough with small children around his toys and treats. He does great with older kids and loves people! He has not done great with other dogs so far though he was found with a female dog. His age is a mystery. The shelter thought he was 6 years old but the vet thought maybe 2-4 years old. He weighs 75 lbs. He looks part lab and mastiff and that seems to check out with character. He has a sweet, calm, noble temperament but also absolutely loves to play, run, and goof off.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
